  • Patent number: 4540135
Abstract: A click brake for a fly reel includes an adjustment mechanism whereby line may be released either soundlessly or with an accompanying clicking noise. In the soundless condition no braking force is applied, but in the clicking condition, the braking force may be steplessly increased by increasing the pressure on a pawl engaged with the click gear. The pressure on the pawl is applied via a spring which is adjustably tensioned by a cam and control lever arrangement.

  • Patent number: 4538770
Abstract: A wire feed winding needle mounting support and a stack mounting support permit movement of the winding needle and a stack in at least three coordinate axis directions relative to each other. The supports may be formed on separate modules for variable angular orientation relative to each other. A number of motors control relative movement of the winding needle and stack along the three directions for winding selected teeth in the desired distribution. The invention provides as a basic component pliant bearing surface clamp members on either side of the row of teeth of a stack to be wound. A clamp mounting yoke and further motor means alternately move the pliant bearing surfaces toward and away from the row of teeth on either side between a clamp position and an open position.

  • Patent number: 4538771
Abstract: In the manufacture of electrical coils (10), particularly large transformer coils, an insulated wire (11) is wound on a rotatable winding arbor (12) so as to form a succession of turns of the insulated wire. Particularly when large gauge enamelled copper wire is wound, the insulation (14) has a tendency to crack or chip during the winding process, causing shorted turns and producing a defective coil. This disclosure relates to systems for testing such a coil to detect a short as it is wound so as to permit interruption of the winding process and repair of the insulation fault on the spot. The test equipment includes a pair of test windings (41, 42) positioned at opposite ends of the winding arbor (12) and magnetically coupled by flux paths (50, 51) to each other and to the coil being wound so that an A.C. input signal (V.sub.1) applied to the first winding (41) induces an A.C. output signal (V.sub.

  • Patent number: 4535954
Abstract: In a rotating spool casting reel a permanent magnet carried on the housing and a fan blade rotor with metallic disc attracted by the magnet and fan blades rotatable with the shaft but slidable thereon. • Patent number: 4529139
Abstract: Elongate articles of non-circular cross section such as those of an airfoil cross section are constructed by winding filamentary material in layers about a form between a pair of spaced turnarounds generally conforming in shape to the cross sectional shape of the form. Adjacent layers are continuously wound by winding the filamentary material across the edges and outer face of each turnaround while reversing the direction of relative longitudinal displacement between the filamentary material and the form. The shape correspondence between the turnarounds and the form effect a minimization of expanse between the turnaround edge and form surface, thereby minimizing bridging of the filamentary material between those two members.

  • Patent number: 4527753
Abstract: A fly-fishing reel has a rotatable spool provided with a click gear engaged by a pivoted pawl which can apply resistance to rotation of the spool in opposite directions by independently adjustable spring means. A pair of exteriorly exposed adjustment knobs are each provided with an eccentric pin extending into the reel housing to slide a plate which carries a pretensioned spring engaged with one of the opposite radial sides of the pawl. By rotating the knobs, the slides move linearly to vary the contact point of the springs with the pawl and thereby regulate the moment arm of the force resisting rotation of the pawl and thus the click gear and spool to which is engaged. Since the adjustments are independent, the resistances to rotation of the spool may be varied as to degree and to which direction of rotation they apply. The slides mount the springs in a manner to limit the degree to which the springs may follow movements of the pawls.

  • Patent number: 4526327
Abstract: A spinning reel is provided with a rotor having opposed arms projecting over a skirted portion of a normally non-rotated spool. A line guide bail has arm cams at its ends to pivotally support the bail to the rotor. One of the bail arm cams also forms a lever portion. The bail is pivoted through a wide angle, in response to rotation of the rotor, from a line casting position to an intermediate position and finally to a line winding position. In moving from the casting to the intermediate position, the bail arm lever strikes a kick plate carried by a stationary reel support leg. This conditions the bail so that an interior, stationary kick bose is engaged by a kick plate connected by a link to the bail arm cam to swing the plate and connected bail to line winding position.

  • Patent number: 4524922
Abstract: The invention relates to a fishing reel. It comprises a fishing line storage spool which is driven rotatively by an oscillating movement lever through a gear which includes a one-way coupling, whereby the lever is allowed to return to its initial position at the end of the power stroke. The spool is rotatively coupled to the gear through a torque limiter which also allows the spool to rotate independently of the operation of the lever.

  • Patent number: 4518153
Abstract: The safety system in a hoist having a motor with a motor shaft, a gear reduction unit, a drum, a safety brake drivingly coupled on an operating element on or close to the drum in which a mechanical out-of-sync detector produces a unidirectional brake-setting output from inputs from the drum and the motor shaft, the unidirectional brake-setting rotational output for setting the brake. In a preferred embodiment, an error correction is made into the detector for obtaining a first unidirectional output during normal operation, and the brake-setting unidirectional rotation is in the opposite direction for setting the brake. One form of detector is a mechanical differential assembly and another form of detector is a set of coaxial shafts that measure differential rotation between the drum and motor input shafts. A unique brake actuator is provided and is easily reset remotely after the brake has been set.
