Abstract: A device is disclosed for conducting a non-invasive analysis of a bodily fluid to determine the presence and level of a certain constituent carried by the bodily fluid. An indicator formulation of the device changes color in response to exposure to the constituent to provide a visible indication of the presence and level of the constituent carried by the bodily fluid. A carrier substrate of the device is constructed of a material having voids providing a high void volume within the substrate. The device is made by applying a chromagen to the carrier substrate to create a chromagen-laden carrier member. Then, a selected reagent having a particular constituent-specific formulation is applied to the chromagen-laden member. The selected reagent then combines with the chromagen thereby establishing the indicator formulation within the carrier substrate in place for reception of a sample of the bodily fluid.

Abstract: It is an object of this invention to provide a simple measurement method capable of detecting indoxyl sulfuric acid in a sample rapidly and at high sensitivity. By causing sulfatase and tetrazolium salt to act on indoxyl sulfuric acid in a sample to generate a formazan dye, and then calculating the generation amount of the formazan dye, indoxyl sulfuric acid in the sample can be measured more simply, more rapidly, and at higher sensitivity as compared with former methods.

The system further includes an electrochemical test strip for receiving processed samples from the first and second samplers, the processed samples containing pyruvate. The system further includes a meter for reading the electrochemical test strip and indicating an amount of AST and ALT in the sample.
Abstract: This invention relates to a process for the production of fermentable C5-C6 sugars from oleaginous herbaceous plants comprising the steps of: a) mechanically separating the seeds from the above-ground lignocellulose biomass and breaking-up said lignocellulose biomass; b) placing the above-ground lignocellulose biomass in contact with a basic aqueous solution so as to obtain a paste containing from 10 to 50% by weight of the said lignocellulose biomass at temperature of between 10 and 95° C. for a time of between 1 minute and 24 hours; c) separating out the paste obtained in step b) in a solid fraction containing essentially hemicellulose and cellulose; in a liquid fraction containing lignin and extractables; d) subjecting the said solid fraction containing essentially hemicellulose and cellulose to enzyme hydrolysis.

The protective agent for electron microscopic observation of the present invention contains a a component to impart the survival environment, a saccharide, and an electrolyte.
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to methods and systems for injecting a gas (e.g., air) into a grain oil recovered from a grain process so as to remove an amount of one or more materials (e.g., moisture, unsaponifiables, insolubles, free fatty acids, and the like) from the grain oil.
Abstract: The invention generally relates to optical methods for the diagnosis of neuronal condition by converting a cell from a patient into a neuron and optically evaluating action potentials of that cell in vitro. The cell is transformed with an optical reporter and exhibits an optical signature in response to neural stimulation. Using genome-editing, a control cell can be made that is isogenic but-for a known mutation and a control signature obtained from the control cell. Thus, methods of the invention reveal potential neurodegenerative effects of a mutation as manifested in a patient's genetic context. The optical signature of the cell, or the difference between the signature and the control signature, is correlated to a diagnosis of the neurodegenerative disease.
