  • Patent number: 7830870
Abstract: The router of the invention comprises a routing table and an NAT table, which comprises an internet routing field for recording an address where a routing path to a WAN is stored, an intranet routing field for recording an address where a routing path to an LAN is stored, and a routing flag field for recording information indicating whether the NAT table stores an address where a routing path to a destination address is stored. When receiving a packet to a destination address, the router checks whether the NAT table records the address where a routing path to the destination address is stored. The router transmits the packet based on the routing information of the NAT table if the result is positive. If the result is negative, the router selects a routing path to the destination address from the routing table and transmits the packet base on the selected routing path.

  • Patent number: 7817627
Abstract: A switching node comprises edge nodes interconnected by independent switch units. The switch units are arranged in at least one switch plane and the switch units of each switch plane are arranged in a matrix having several rows and several columns. Each edge node has a channel to a switch unit in each column in each switch plane and a channel from each switch unit in a selected column in each switch plane. Simple paths, each traversing only one switch unit in a switch plane, may be established for any directed edge-node pair. Additionally, several non-intersecting compound paths, each comprising at most two simple paths, may be established for any edge-node pair. A significant proportion of traffic may be routed through simple paths. The switching node employs distributed control scheme and scales gracefully from a capacity of a fraction of a terabit per second to thousands of terabits per second.

  • Patent number: 7813302
Abstract: When each of a plurality of peers mutually connected through a network receives connection of a new peer, each peer forms group information in which the new peer has been grouped on the basis of comparison of distances on the network among three peers of the own peer, a representative peer of an existing group, and the new peer. When the data is transmitted from the own peer, path information in which destination information of each group which has been grouped on the basis of the group information and the own peer have been registered is formed and transmitted together with the data to the representative peer of each group.

  • Patent number: 7808968
Abstract: The present invention discloses an efficient architecture for routing in a very large autonomous system where many of the layer 3 routers are attached to a common connection-oriented layer 2 subnetwork, such as an ATM network. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, a permanent topology of routers coupled to the subnetwork is connected by permanent virtual circuits. The routers can further take advantage of both intra-area and inter-area shortcuts through the layer 2 network to improve network performance. The routers pre-calculate shortcuts using information from link state packets broadcast by other routers and store the shortcuts to a given destination in a forwarding table, along with corresponding entries for a next hop along the permanent topology. The present invention allows the network to continue to operate correctly if layer 2 resource limitations preclude the setup of additional shortcuts.

  • Patent number: 7804826
Abstract: The present invention supports a communication protocol for transmission of information packets between a mobile node and a virtual private network. Information packets are encapsulated and decapsulated along the route as the information packet is forwarded among the various networks on its path to the destination address; either the mobile node on a foreign network or a correspondence node on a virtual private network. A home agent on the virtual private network supports transmitting the information packets, and the information packets are transmitted from the virtual private network from the home agent or a virtual private network gateway.

  • Patent number: 7801063
Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for reducing a transmission rate for retransmission of a current frame in a wireless communication system. The reduced transmission rate increases the probability that the current frame is correctly transmitted and acknowledged. The transmission rate is progressively reduced for the current frame to avoid the expiration of the frame's retry count, while not affecting the transmission rate of subsequent frames. The next frame should be transmitted at the highest rate permitted by the signal quality. A disclosed retry count expiry avoidance algorithm increases the reliability of a retransmission by lowering the transmission rate for the current frame when an acknowledgement is not received. When an acknowledgement is not received, the transmitting station proceeds to a retransmitting state where the transmitting station first attempts to retransmit the frame at the same rate.

  • Patent number: 7801047
Abstract: A method for measuring the traffic volume of a transport channel in a mobile communication system is disclosed, including receiving a buffer occupancy for each of a set of logical channels mapped to a transport channel, measuring a traffic volume of the transport channel based on the received buffer occupancies, and reporting the measured traffic volume of the transport channel to an upper layer. The measured traffic volume may be reported to the upper layer when the volume is out of a given range or a timer set to a given period has expired. Using this method, a radio resource control layer can perform a dynamic radio bearer reconfiguration using the measurement results received from a medium access control layer of the communication system.

  • Patent number: 7796563
Abstract: An apparatus for selecting a best serving sector in a code division multiple access (CDMA) communication system. A comparator compares a plurality of signal levels received from a plurality of active sectors with a signal level of a current serving sector to produce a difference. A delta generator is coupled to the comparator that generates a delta credit for each of the plurality of active sectors based on the difference. An accumulator is coupled to the delta generator and accumulates a plurality of delta credits to produce an accumulated total credit. • Patent number: 7787458
Abstract: A method and apparatus for communicating data packets according to classes of service is described. One or more service interfaces are coupled to a plurality of transport interfaces. The service interfaces carry packets having multiple classes of service, while each of the plurality of transport interfaces carries packets of a single class of service. A differentiated services codepoint profile is associated with each service interface and maps a differentiated services codepoint value of a data packet to a class of service and a drop precedence. The data packet is assigned to a transport interface based on its class of service and its drop precedence. Other factors, such as the destination of the data packet may be considered when assigning the data packet to a transport interface. Data packets from different transport interfaces are preferably enqueued in different queues of a destination service interface.

  • Patent number: 7787385
Abstract: A routing apparatus comprising: 1) a first router coupled to a first plurality of Ethernet links; and 2) a second router coupled to a second plurality of Ethernet links, wherein selected ones of the first plurality of Ethernet links are coupled to selected ones of the second plurality of Ethernet links to thereby form Ethernet trunk groups in which traffic associated with a plurality of Ethernet ports are aggregated into a single logical port. The routing apparatus further comprises a first high-speed link and a second high-speed link directly coupling the first router and the second router and forming a self-healing ring for transferring data packets between the first and second routers. In response to a failure associated with the failing one of the first and second routers, the first and second high-speed links transfer data traffic from the failing router to the non-failing router.

  • Patent number: 7787419
Abstract: A first access point located in a first cell may be coupled to a second access point located in a second cell. Service may be initially provided to an access device by the first access point cell. The access device may subsequently be serviced by a second access point whenever a signal for the access device falls below a specified threshold level.
