  • Patent number: 8027354
Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for virtualized server kernel and virtual networks consolidation. The network consolidation allows a data center to migrate from an infrastructure that uses multiple dedicated gigabit Ethernet Network Adapters to manage system virtualization and migration to an infrastructure using consolidated, redundant, 10 gigabit Ethernet adapters. Different priority classes may be defined for different classes of network traffic such as hypervisor management traffic, inter-host virtual machine migration traffic, virtual machine production traffic, virtualized switching control plane traffic, etc. Further, an enhanced transmission standard may be used to specify a minimum bandwidth guarantee for certain traffic classes. Thus, the hypervisor management and inter-host virtual machine migration traffic may be transmitted, even the presence of congestion.

  • Patent number: 8009672
Abstract: A method, system and apparatus for improving data transfer rate over a network are provided. When a piece of data is to be transmitted to a target system, it is divided into a number of packets and a determination is made as to whether the number of packets exceeds a threshold number. If so, the packets are transferred in parallel over a plurality of network connections. The ideal network connections are TCP/IP connections. Thus, each packet has an IP header, which contains an IP identification field. An indicium is placed into the IP identification field for proper reconstruction of the data by the target system.

  • Patent number: 7995564
Abstract: In a bearer-independent core network, the switching and transport of the bearer streams is separated from the processing of call sessions that control the bearer streams. The switching and transport of the bearer streams is executed by media gateways and packet switches in the switching and transport layer of the network. The processing of calls sessions that control the bearer streams is executed by call servers in the call control layer of the network. The switching and transport layer of the network may be implemented using ATM or IP technology. In order to redirect the signaling links to a backup call server, a signaling gateway is used. Each media gateway includes a signaling gateway function. The signaling gateways redirect the signaling links by encapsulating each signaling message in a new packet in one embodiment.

  • Patent number: 7978630
Abstract: A method and system for maintaining a connection between two hosts in a multi-hop network comprising at least one network node disposed between the two hosts and a network element, e.g., a NAT, designed to release the connection after a period of inactivity. The method includes determining a first node in which a keep-alive message will terminate after crossing a network element designed to release the connection after a period of inactivity, and sending a keep-alive data packet configured to terminate in the first node after crossing the network element designed to release the connection. The keep-alive packet configured to terminate in the first node after crossing the network element designed to release the connection may be sent within a time period less than the time period of inactivity after which the network element would release the connection. The method allows for a connection to be kept open without waking up a client device and/or without activating air interface procedures.

  • Patent number: 7978632
Abstract: A method and configuration manager generates a routing topology for a wireless mesh network. The wireless mesh network has a plurality of internal nodes, at least one edge node, and at least one originating device. A plurality of potential routing solutions is determined which contain a plurality of paths through the wireless mesh network from the at least one originating device to the at least one edge node such that data communicated from the at least one originating device reaches the at least one edge node in no more than a predetermined number of hops. Each potential routing solution is based on at least one measured wireless communication parameter between internal nodes. Metric calculations for each potential routing solution are computed to determine a preferred routing solution. The wireless mesh network is configured to route traffic using the preferred routing solution.

  • Patent number: 7957349
Abstract: A method and apparatus for minimizing data forwarding between Evolved Node Bs (ENBs) during a handover. A User Equipment (UE) sends a status report to an ENB of a source cell immediately before the handover occurs. In this manner, a target cell avoids retransmission of the RLC PDUs, which were successfully transmitted but have not yet been ACKnowledged (ACKed) by the UE, thereby minimizing the amount of data being forwarded from the ENB of the source cell to an ENB of the target cell.

  • Patent number: 7957290
Abstract: A radio communication system, a radio communication apparatus, and a radio communication method allow networks to operate without interference between contending networks. When plural piconets collide on the same frequency channel, a control station of one of the piconets temporarily sets a buffer super frame period to coexist between the piconets. When an apparatus other than a control station receives a beacon signal of the buffer super frame period, a shorter super frame period based on that super frame period is temporarily set to make fine adjustment of the next beacon signal transmission timing. An apparatus that has not received a beacon signal looks for a beacon signal of its own piconet for a redundant time to find a start time of a new super frame period.

  • Patent number: 7944913
Abstract: The present invention provides a node capable of preventing the problems caused by switching between traffic communication paths when a link failure occurs. According to an embodiment of the invention, among ports of a node 10, ports P1 and P2 connected to a link between the node 10 and a node 20 are registered in a virtual port VP1, and ports P3 and P4 connected to a link between the node 10 and the node 30 are registered in a virtual port VP2. The virtual ports VP1 and VP2 are registered in a virtual port VP3 allocated to a virtual LAG group. When one link between the node 10 and the node 20 is disconnected, the node 10 transmits frames, which have been transmitted from a physical port connected to the link, from the virtual port including the physical port, among the virtual ports belonging to the virtual port VP3 allocated to the virtual LAG group.

  • Patent number: 7944948
Abstract: The present invention sets forth a network-centric service distribution architecture that integrates a wireless access system in the residence, SOHO, business or public environment through the use of a local broadband network, such as a Residential-Business Broadband Network (RBN), to the service provider's broadband transport network and to a service provider's broadband packet network. The system includes Media Terminal Adapter is coupled via the RBN to the access port(s) and via the service provider's broadband transport network to the service provider's broadband packet network. The access port is coupled to the Media Terminal Adapter via either a RBN (e.g., a Local Area Network—LAN) or simply via a traditional POTS line interface. The access port receives and sends wireless signals to a plurality of RBN devices, allowing the user to control theses devices remotely from the residence, business, SOHO or public environments.
