Abstract: Systems and method for dynamically loaded menus and objects are provided that can provide cross-platform capability and accessibility features. Objects in a page that are dynamic or are not human-readable (e.g., executable or images) can be identified and enhanced for compatibility with screen readers. HTML corresponding to the object can be generated and loaded in storage for use within the web page. The loaded HTML can be copied into the HTML of the web page. A blank placeholder may be displayed in the area in which the corresponding HTML is to be displayed and the corresponding HTML is displayed over the placeholder to provide a replacement object such as to display a list of URL menu items.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention include a method and apparatus for describing elements within a virtual world to a user of the virtual world. An element may be identified based on a position of an avatar within the virtual world. The avatar is a representation of the user within the virtual world. A tag associated with the element is selected. The tag includes a description of the element. The element is described to the user based on the description.

Abstract: A system and method for configuring a hardware device to execute a prototype is presented. The hardware device may include a programmable hardware element and/or a processor and memory. The prototype may comprise a software entity operable to perform a plurality of executable operations, wherein the prototype is created by a user without requiring user programming. For example, a prototyping environment may provide a library of operations that are specific to a particular problem domain and may enable the user to select various operations from the library for inclusion in the prototype. The prototyping environment may include a graphical user interface that is streamlined for interactively experimenting with various parameters or properties associated with the selected operations and seeing the effects of adjusting the parameters.

Abstract: Statistical filtering of data using graphical user interfaces in information technology systems. One embodiment comprises generating a graphical statistical representation of a data set and displaying the graphical statistical representation on an electronic display. One or more manipulable graphical elements are also displayed in conjunction with the graphical statistical representation, wherein the manipulable graphical elements represent one or more statistical ranges for the graphical statistical representation. Based on user adjusting one or more of the manipulable graphical elements specifying one or more adjusted statistical ranges, the data set is filtered to correspond to the graphical statistical representation within the one or more adjusted statistical ranges.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer-storage media for customizing the appearance of a desktop background are provided. The desktop is the bottom surface drawn behind the application windows, gadgets, a task bar, and other user interface elements displayed on a computing screen. Embodiments of the present invention allow a user to customize the background by dragging an image representation from a desktop control panel onto a portion of the desktop. Once dropped onto the desktop, the image associated with the representation is used to generate the desktop background. When the desktop is extended to different monitors, the portion of desktop on each monitor may be customized separately.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for previewing new events in a computing device having a plurality of applications for managing respective events are described. Individual applications are each represented by an application icon on a screen of a graphical user interface for the device. In response to a new event of a one of the applications, the application's icon is visually modified to notify of the new event. A visual modification may be determined in response to the new event, for example, to preview a content of the event. The visual modification may include a count of all new events that remain to be disposed. On a selection of the visually modified icon, additional previewing may be provided. Activation of the application having a visually modified application icon may be configured to automatically initiate the application at the new event.

Abstract: A mobile terminal includes a wireless communication unit, a memory, a touch screen, and a controller. The wireless communication unit establishes a connection to an external digital picture frame. The memory stores a plurality of images including one or more characters and information mapped to the characters. The touch screen displays a first image stored in the memory. And, the controller transmits the first image and first information mapped to the first image to the digital picture frame via the wireless communication unit.

Abstract: A method and system for providing an aggregate view of information that a user may need is provided. A desktop assistant system collects information items that a user may need such as scheduling information and recently received messages. The desktop assistant system may also identify documents that the user may need and contacts with whom the user may need to communicate based on analysis of the collected scheduling information and the collected messages. The desktop assistant system then displays indications of the collected scheduling information, the collected messages, the identified documents, and the identified contacts so that the user has an integrated view of the needed information items.

Abstract: Computer-implemented methods for deciding whether to display a keyboard on a touchscreen device are provided. In one aspect, a method includes receiving, on a touchscreen device, a request to load a display comprising an input field and selectable content, and determining, based on prior user behavior, the probability of whether the user will enter content into the input field or select the selectable content. The method also includes controlling whether to display a keyboard when the determined probability indicates that the user will enter content into the input field or hide the keyboard when the determined probability indicates that the user will select the selectable content. Systems and machine-readable media are also provided.

Abstract: A method for generating 3D carousel visualization of large-scale tree data, which comprises the steps of: receiving a user's selection of a node in the carousel; according to the radius of a sub-carousel corresponding to the user-selected node and the radius of a carousel at which the selected node is located, judging whether or not the sub-carousel can be expanded at the carousel at which the selected node is located; expanding the sub-carousel at the carousel at which the selected node is located, if it is determined that the sub-carousel can be expanded at the carousel at which the selected node is located. A device capable of implementing the method is provided. The number of carousel levels visualized on a visualization device can be adjusted dynamically, and the visualization of a focus becomes more prominent, and relationships between nodes at each level of the tree data visualization get more apparent.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method and system for generating and displaying a calendar containing user-selected events from user-selected categories. Events are overlaid on a calendar unique to the user. Calendars may also be shared among a number of selected users, if desired. Online purchasing and related actions can be associated with each event.

The diagram may include a plurality of icons that are connected by wires, and the icons may visually represent functionality of the diagram. The diagram may be executable to perform the functionality. Displaying the diagram may include displaying a first wire in the diagram, where the first wire connects a first icon and a second icon. Data transfer functionality may be specified for the first wire and/or the first or second icon in the diagram. The data transfer functionality may be visually indicated in the diagram, e.g., by appearances of the first icon, the second icon, the first wire, and/or icons displayed proximate to these components of the diagram.

Abstract: Systems and methods for uploading documents to a document database by using an efficient drag and drop interface is provided. The drag and drop interface includes a persistent and movable drop box rendered on an operating system. The drop box is preconfigured to access a document database to upload documents. Furthermore, the drop box is persistently available on a desktop of the operating system, wherein one or more objects can be dragged and dropped for upload to the document database from any other interface or from the desktop, whereupon documents corresponding to the one or more objects are uploaded to the database based on preconfigured destination locations to which to upload.

Abstract: A method for providing an animated transition effect between a first display state associated with a first control state of a control element rendered on a graphical user interface of a computer system, and a second display state associated with a second control state of said control element is provided. The method renders the control element in said first state and then receives at the graphic user interface, a user input event to invoke the second control state of the control element. The method evaluates a graph associated with the control element, the graph having entries each corresponding to a state of the control element, each entry comprising an event, an associated transition and a destination state, to identify a graph entry specifying a transition invoked by the input event from a current displayed first state to the destination state, being the second control state.

A viewport is displayed on a display in association with a chat window in which the viewport defines an area on the display. The image is defined as graphical data in the area defined by the viewport to form a selected image in response to a user input to select an image. A marker is placed in a text message in the chat window in which the marker is associated with the selected image.

Abstract: An image processing apparatus comprising: a display; a controller that displays or hides a function button for use of a function on a display screen on the display according to one or more than one pattern information object indicating the setting whether to display or hide the function button on the display screen; a firmware updater that updates firmware; and a comparator that compares the old and new firmware in terms of the functions installed thereon, and wherein, if the comparison result drawn by the comparator indicates that a new function is added due to the firmware update, the controller displays or hides a first function button for use of the new function according to pattern information for a second function button for use of a function on a higher layer than the new function or pattern information for a group including the second function button.

Abstract: Systems and methods for rendering a graphic that describes multiple dimensions of performance for a subject intensive care unit (ICU) over a predefined period of time are provided. One method involves measuring the performance of the subject ICU against various metrics and displaying the measured performance as a graphic constructed of data strips placed adjacent to a 2-dimensional plot. The lengths of the data strips visually represent a percentage of patients that did not receive active treatment in the subject ICU, a rate of readmission to an ICU, and a median of the acute physiological scores (APS's) extracted from patients admitted to the subject ICU, respectively. The 2-dimensional plot includes an X-axis that represents a ratio of a hospital predicted mortality rate value over the measured mortality rate, while a Y-axis represents a difference between a predicted mean length of stay value and the measured mean length of stay value.

Abstract: An apparatus and method is described for highlighting related user interface controls to selected items in order to improve the ease of use and the intuitiveness of a graphical user interface. In preferred embodiments, user interface controls that are related to a selected object in the display are uniquely highlighted when an object is selected to show the user what user interface options are related to or available to perform some action on the selected object. The preferred embodiments of related highlighted controls can be used in conjunction with prior art highlighted controls that show what actions are available to the user for the current environment or cursor location.
