  • Patent number: 5465946
Abstract: A positioning fixture which allows two or more parts to be positioned in proper spatial relationship to one another and then allows the parts which are clamped together to be repositioned while maintaining the spatial relationship between the parts. The positioning fixture has a flat working surface which is compatible with a variety of standard and custom clamping mechanisms for holding and positioning the parts to be welded. The working surface with the parts clamped to it is tiltable to a wide range of working positions. The tilting feature is provided by mounting the working surface on a locking ball joint which is operated by a foot pedal through a mechanical or pneumatic mechanism. The locking ball joint also provides electrical isolation between the work surface and the base of the positioning fixture which is important when using electrical welding methods.

  • Patent number: 5465637
Abstract: A method and apparatus for removing insulation from the ends of electrical wires. The wire processing machine has a pair of turning mechanisms each driving a set of feed wheels, one set on either side of a pair of reciprocating V-notch shaped cutting blades. The feed wheels grip a wire for feeding it into and out of the cutting zone of the blades. Each set of feed wheels and its turning mechanism are mounted on a reciprocating table. A rotation mechanism causes the feed wheels to reciprocate in opposed directions transverse to the wire axis for the purpose of rotating the wire about its axis. The cutting blades close upon a wire positioned for stripping, cutting less than the full circumference of the insulation. With the blades closed and stationary, the rotation mechanism is activated to rotate the wire, thereby completing a full encircling cut of the insulation. The feed wheels advance the wire with the blades closed to remove the insulation slug.

  • Patent number: 5462475
Abstract: An adhesive blocking system, for generating and for fining and polishing eyeglass lenses, utilizes a collar which slides over and engages a lens block, which lens block is secured to a lens blank by a relatively thick adhesive pad, to uniformly transfer pressure from the cylinder machine to the lens blank without deforming the adhesive pad, which deformation adversely affects the optics. In this manner, a lens blank is blocked only once for both generating and fining and polishing. In addition, the environmental risks and heating effects of current solder blocking systems are avoided.

  • Patent number: 5462476
Abstract: The blade sharpening device is an adjustable multi-angle edge sharpening unit comprised of a base connected to a rotatable sharpening stone table and a vertically adjustable blade support table. A hand movable sharpening stone is positioned on the sharpening stone table and the blade to be sharpened positioned on the blade support table, with the blade in grinding contact with the sharpening stone. An angle selection chart on the base allows vertical movement of the blade support table in conjunction with rotational adjustment of the sharpening stone table to accurately select a specific angle at which the blade edge is ground. A scissors adapter unit may be attached to the blade support table which permits the sharpening of scissors blades. The scissors blade is pressed against the scissors adapter, the blade being in grinding contact with the sharpening stone in much the same manner as knife blades are sharpened by the device.

  • Patent number: 5460464
Abstract: A cutting insert has a polygonal plate-like insert body defined by a front face, a back face, and a plurality of side faces lying between the front and back faces. A nose portion is defined by one of the corners of the front face. At least one cutting edge extends immediately from the nose portion. The cutting edge is defined by one of a pair of intersections of the front face with an adjacent pair of side faces sandwiching the nose portion therebetween. The front face includes an inclined surface sloping toward the back face in a direction away from the nose portion, causing each of the pair of intersections to incline toward the back face in a direction away from the nose portion. A breaker is formed on the inclined surface along the intersection of the inclined surface with a side face. The breaker has an inner surface for defining a rake surface portion more positively inclined to the corresponding cutting edge than that defined by the other area of the front face.

  • Patent number: 5458557
Abstract: A quarter fold folding device is described, having a quarter fold blade suspended by two opposite ends from two pivots, which are free to rotate with respect to the blade and are securely fastened to two connecting rods at one of their ends. The connecting rods are, at their opposite ends, rotationally driven in opposite directions, respectively, by means of two horizontal shafts rotating about their longitudinal axis. The rotating shafts are simultaneously rotationally driven in opposite directions respectively about two horizontal and parallel central axes, so that when the two rotating shafts perform a complete revolution about the parallel central axes, the two opposite ends of the folding blade driven by the connecting rods describe two parallel vertical segments of a straight line between a bottom position and a top position of the quarter fold blade. The quarter fold blade in the bottom position engages a signature between two folding cylinders, so as to form a longitudinal fold in the signature.

  • Patent number: 5457834
Abstract: A curved snap fastener opener has a wedged shape with a recess at one end. As the wedge end of the opener is slid between the snap fastener base and the snap fastener cap, the curved shape of the opener provides an upward pressure on the cap of the snap fastener which assists in separating the cap from the base of the snap fastener. The surfaces of the opener have no sharp discontinuities which can result in breakage if additional pressure is applied at the end of the opener opposite the wedge end to pry open unyielding snap fasteners. The opener is small and has an opening which allows it to be carried on key holders such as key chains and key rings.

  • Patent number: 5458532
Abstract: There are disclosed, in combination, a resiliently compressive, porous rotary buffing pad and a pad holder adapted for use in floor polishing machines. The pad holder is of one piece construction and is formed about its perimeter and toward its center with areas which compress the pad to increase friction with a floor during polishing while reducing overall energy requirements. Immediately adjacent to each such compression area the pad holder defines an area which does not contact the pad and which promotes filtering and storage of particulates. This combination, with adjacent integrally connected compression, non-compression areas promotes efficient polishing with reduced energy resulting from the use of discreet compression areas; and dust or particulate absorption and storage within the non-compression areas.
