  • Patent number: 5269053
Abstract: A compact disc brake piston retraction tool and method for retracting a disc brake piston is provided for moving a disc brake piston into a retracted position in the cylinder position in the cylinder bore of a disc brake caliper in order to allow the replacement of worn disc brake pads. The tool includes a threaded bolt, and a threaded collar, which bolt-collar assembly can operate alone or be attached to a brace support wall to enable the invention to be braced against the caliper arms opposite the brake piston to allow pressure to be exerted on the disc brake piston by the rotation of the collar around the threaded bolt thereby causing the bolt-collar assembly to lengthen and exert pressure against the disc brake piston by a variety of means such as directly, by a piston bearing plate, or a brake pad attached to the brake piston.

  • Patent number: 5249346
Abstract: The present invention concerns a process for fixing holding clips (1) to a band (2) which is movable in its longitudinal direction, wherein the band (2) is deformed transversely relative to the longitudinal direction in such a way that the spacing of the band edges (3, 4) becomes less than the band width and the internal spacing of the holding elements (5, 6) provided on the holding clip (1) and the part of the band (2) which is between the band edges (3, 4) is curved forwardly out of the plane of the band defined by the band edges (3, 4), the band edges (3, 4) are brought into position between the holding elements (5, 6) and the deformation is substantially removed again so that the band edges (3, 4) substantially resume their original spacing and the holding clip (1) comes into frictional engagement with the band (2), and a corresponding apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5245747
Abstract: The invention concerns a device for tightening threaded joints in two subsequent steps, namely a first step during which a joint is tightened to a predetermined torque snug level and a second step during which the joint is further tightened up to a final predetermined pretension level. During the second tightening step the angle speed of the power tool (10) is gradually increased at a predetermined rate. The power tool (10) comprises an electric brushless motor which is supplied with power from a variable frequency output inverter (11), and the gradual increase in angle speed of the power tool (10) is accomplished by a gradually increased output frequency and voltage from the power supply means (11).

  • Patent number: 5244448
Abstract: The invention concerns a method and apparatus for regulating the temperature of an adjustable-crown roll. The roll mantle (12) arranged to revolve on the stationary axle (11) of the roll (10) is loaded by passing a pressure medium into a pressure chamber (15) or series of chambers formed between the axle (11) and the mantle (12) so as to correct the deflection of the roll mantle (12). The roll (10) is additionally heated/cooled by passing heating/cooling fluid into the roll (10). The heating/cooling fluid used for the regulation of the temperature of the roll (10) is introduced into the roll (10) so as to be substantially uniformly distributed over the surface area of the roll (10) such that heat is removed or produced in the radial direction of the roll.

  • Patent number: 5239740
Abstract: A die member for joining a fastener to a panel includes a generally rectangular opening defined by two spaced apart opposed end walls, which receive the end walls of a pilot portion of a fastener. The end walls of the opening terminate into arcuate corners and are adapted to sheer and deform the pilot end walls of the fastener thereby forming bearing panel support abutments capable of providing a liquid tight seal between the panel and the fastener. The die member also includes clinching lips on opposed sides of the die opening. The clinching lips preferably include a top portion and tapered wall which deform the panel edges into grooved openings in the fastener thereby providing a liquid tight seal. The die opening is surrounded by a generally planar surface having an outer generally rectangular perimeter having generally arcuate corners. The generally arcuate corners form arcuate depressions within the panel when the die member operates on the fastener to attach it to the panel.

  • Patent number: 5237735
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing and securing a screw in a preset position to prevent unauthorized adjustment. The screw securing means according to the invention makes it possible to secure a screw connection in a simple manner, in that a screw head of thermoplastic plastic, which is at least partly located in a housing recess, is heated to such an extent that it changes to the liquid state, flows into the housing recess, and at least partially fills the housing recess. By form-fitting engagement with the threaded pin and the housing recess, security against twisting, and also against being rotated without authorization, is attained. Screws in components that vibrate severely, and adjusting screws that must not be adjusted by unauthorized third parties, can be secured with this screw securing means.

  • Patent number: 5235734
Abstract: A collapsible steering shaft apparatus includes first and second telescopingly arranged steering shaft members. A plurality of longitudinally extending projections are formed in one of the steering shaft members and engage a plurality of longitudinally extending grooves formed in the other steering shaft member. The mating projections and grooves join the steering shaft members together for longitudinal sliding movement under external forces exerted on the steering shaft apparatus. The mating projections and grooves also prevent rotation of the two steering shaft members relative to each other and insure that the two steering shaft member rotate together as a unit without backlash upon rotation of the vehicle steering wheel. A method of forming the projections and grooves in the tubular steering shaft members is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5216799
Abstract: A method of constructing a carbon fiber composite wing in which upper and lower skins are bonded to a pre-assembled rib 15 and spar 16 framework, thus obviating the need for metal fasteners and hence cutting down assembly time. In one embodiment a novel cleat 17 of cruciform cross-section replaces the four cleats conventionally used for bolting the ribs 15 and spars 16 together. Holes 22 drilled in either end of the cleats serve as jig location points during framework assembly and anti-peel fastener holes after the skins have been bonded.
