  • Patent number: 5105538
Abstract: Method of making exactly remateable cracked connecting rods comprised of forged wrought steel possessing typical ductility, said rods having a big end with a big bore therein and an arm-like body extending therefrom with a small end at its extremity, the big end having crack initiating crevices formed therein to promote a cracking plane, comprising the following steps: (a) placing the big bore of an uncracked connecting rod onto a nestable separable pair of cantilevered hemispherical blocks complementary to the internal shape of the big bore; (b) continuously and uniformly separating the cantilevers of said blocks to initially assure contact of said blocks with the rod at a tangent point aligned substantially on the longitudinal axis of the uncracked connecting rod, and thereafter to exert sufficient force through said cantilevers to the blocks to pull apart the connecting rod at the cracking plane determined by said crack initiating crevices, the connecting rod cap and body being free to experience small but

  • Patent number: 5105539
Abstract: A process for manufacturing a honeycomb body having a multiplicity of at least partly structured metal sheets defining a multiplicity of channels through which a fluid can flow includes stacking at least partly structured metal sheets into a plurality of bundles of metal sheets having ends. Each bundle is folded about a respective bending line defining a folded edge of each bundle and the folded edges are simultaneously or subsequently moved toward a central region. The ends of the folded bundles are entwined in the same direction, such as by rotating the central region and contracting a form surrounding the bundles. The entwined bundles are encased in a prefabricated jacket by pushing the entwined bundles into the prefabricated jacket or surrounding the entwined bundles with the prefabricated jacket.

  • Patent number: 5103542
Abstract: The invention concerns a fluid distribution system for a variable-crown roll adjustable in zones, this roll having a stationary central axle and a revolving roll mantle arranged on the axle. Hydraulic loading elements acting upon an inner face of the roll mantle or a corresponding pressure-fluid chamber, or a series of chambers, may be provided in a space between the central axle and the mantle, so that the axial profile of the variable-crown roll can be adjusted. The fluid distribution system of the roll has a system of fluid distribution ducts provided in connection with the central axle, with pressure fluid passing to zones of the roll being arranged to be supplied through this system. The system of fluid distribution ducts has an oblong, continuous profile of substantially circular section, which is provided with several axial ducts and with transverse bores for passing the fluid at least to the hydraulic loading elements.

  • Patent number: 5103549
Abstract: Apparatus for connecting the ends of a pair of oval duct sections includes a pair of arcuate frame sections and a pair of linear intermediate frame sections or a pair of frame sections with a linear portion and a pair of semi-circular end portions. The sections are connected to each other by connector pieces having leg portions extending into receivers in the profile of the frame sections. The connector pieces have stop members which abut the edges of the frame sections and provide a gap therebetween. The lower stop member is offset rearwardly from the body portion of the connector piece and the edge portion of the oval duct extends outwardly into the gap portion. The oval duct end portions are connected to the duct connector frame members and pairs of frame members are positioned in adjacent relation with a gasket member therebetween. The connecting members include a securing device to secure the adjacent frame members to each other and exert a compressive force on the gasket member therebetween.

  • Patent number: 5101558
Abstract: A flashback inhibiting fuel fired infrared burner has a housing with a base wall, a side wall section extending outwardly from the base wall periphery, and a side opening positioned opposite the base wall. Retained in and covering the housing side opening is a foranimous burner plate structure. An air-fuel mixture supply pipe extends forwardly into the housing interior through a front end of the side wall section into a rear end portion of the housing interior and has an open outlet end. A discharge end portion of the supply pipe is received in an open front end portion of a flow reversing tube having a closed rear end. The supply pipe and flow reversing tube are laterally shrouded within the housing by an elongated baffle member having outlet openings formed in longitudinally extending front and rear wall portions thereof, the total cross-sectional area of the outlet openings in the front longitudinal wall portion being greater than that of the outlet openings in the rear longitudinal wall portion.

  • Patent number: 5095606
Abstract: A heat staking tip designed to contain an electrically heated element and an outer sealing sheath for making uniform plastic weld caps out of thermal plastic studs. The tip design combines both heat and pressure in the weld cycle. The sealing sheath is able to move relative to the heating element by use of air pressure. This allows the sealing sheath to seal around the plastic studs with a uniform force while heated pressure pins within the tip assembly are forced by a press assembly against the studs. The pressure pins both melt and pack the plastic of the studs to form uniform weld caps.

  • Patent number: 5088180
Abstract: A multi-part article of furniture, such as a chair or table, capable of being assembled without tools or glue is disclosed. The legs of the table or chair can be rigidly, but removably, attached to the table top or chair seat by slideably engaging an elongated dowel protruding from an upper side surface of the leg into a mating slot formed in the end wall of an apron attached to the underside of the table top or chair seat. Alternatively, the elongated dowel may protrude from the apron and the upper side surface of the leg may contain a mating slot. Fastening clips may provide additional attachment between the legs and aprons and a separate dowel protruding from the upper end surface of the leg may mate with a bore in the underside of the seat or table top. In one embodiment, the length of the legs is varied either by replacement with longer-length legs or by the addition of leg-extension members.

  • Patent number: 5077883
Abstract: In the process of fixing a metal screen in the housing of a vacuum switch, the screen is plastically deformed radially outwards over an internal supporting edge in the housing. The plastic deformation of the screen is carried out at an edge thereof, in such a way that an outward flanged edge is formed. Thus, the screen is retained on the supporting edge by that flanged edge and a part of the housing with a relatively large diameter. Therefore, the screen has a part with a relatively small diameter which is essentially equal to the internal diameter of the supporting edge of the housing.
