  • Patent number: 8073554
Abstract: The present invention relates to a system and method for providing power management to sensing nodes in a sensor network. A system may include a plurality of sensing nodes, each sensing node connected through a power management device to an external power source, such as a powered node of another network, for managing power from the external power source to the sensing node. Beneficially, a plurality of power management devices allow for a sensor network of fixed or mobile wireless sensing nodes or sensor gateways to make use of power from an external source such as an another network e.g. an existing emergency lighting system or other similar powered building system. Thus for example, a sensor or group of sensing nodes and their associated power management devices may be integral with or co-located in proximity to powered nodes of these other networks.

  • Patent number: 8019457
Abstract: A method of controlling a result parameter of an IC manufacturing procedure is described. The value of at least one first variable of a process correlated with the result parameter is acquired, and the difference between the predicted value and the target value of the result parameter is calculated from the same using a correlation equation of the first variable and the result parameter. A correcting action is then performed to a subsequent process including at least one second variable correlated with the result parameter, which is based on a correlation equation of the second variable and the result parameter to control the subsequent process and adjust the second variable such that the difference is reduced due to the affect of the second variable to the result parameter. The at least one first variable and the at least one second variable include two or more different physical quantities.

  • Patent number: 8019480
Abstract: A method for controlling the operation of a cooled or heated water pump of an air conditioning installation is provided in which the flow rate of cooled or heated water is controlled to correspond to variations of energy demand on a load side unit. This can be effected by controlling on the basis of the temperature of the cooled or heated water the state of operation of a heat source, and the number of revolutions of the motor for driving the pump. When the temperature of the cooled or heated water is within a predetermined range of temperature and the operation of the heat source is halted, the motor is operated to rotate a number of revolutions N2 determined by a unit for controlling the rotation of the motor based on conditions obtained at a time of halting the operation of the heat source, until the temperature of the cooled or heated water reaches a predetermined value.

  • Patent number: 8019484
Abstract: The present disclosure is concerned with the combined voltage or power flow control and damping of electromechanical oscillations in an electric power system by Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) devices or High Voltage DC (HVDC) transmission devices. To this end, information about a state or operating point of the power system is generated from suitable second system signals (y2) and a control parameter (cp) of a FACTS controller is derived therefrom. The control parameter and a first system signal (y1) are used in the calculation of a control command (u) defining the settings of the FACTS device. Following a change in the state of the power system such as a change in the topology of a transmission network, poorly damped or even unstable oscillations are avoided by appropriate re-tuning of the control parameter of the damping or stabilizing equipment.

Output signals outside of the range may indicate that a parameter of the measurement device is out of control limits. In a different embodiment, output signals outside of the range may indicate damage to the specimen. Another method includes scanning a polishing pad with a measurement device to generate output signals at measurement spots on the polishing pad. The method also includes determining a characteristic of the polishing pad from the output signals.
