  • Patent number: 9107110
Abstract: A clustered femtocell network including a plurality of femtocell access points that are connected via a logical interface to a mobile network in order to provide user equipments with radio access to the mobile network, wherein the mobile network includes a Mobility Management Function—MMF—, is characterized in that a logical function—Proxy Mobility Management Function P-MMF—is provided that localizes mobility management of the user equipments in the clustered femtocell network, wherein the P-MMF intercepts and interprets mobility-related signaling between the MMF and the femtocell access points in such a way that it emulates towards the femtocell access points the behavior of the mobile network's MMF and towards the mobile network's MMF the behavior of the femtocell access points. Furthermore, a method for operating a clustered femtocell network is disclosed.

  • Patent number: 9107218
Abstract: A method and system for selectively allowing uplink wireless transmission from a wireless communication device (WCDs) to a base station without a resource block assignment. Certain resource blocks may be designated for this use but still available for assignment to particular WCDs. When the base station receives data in such a resource block without having assigned the resource block for use by any WCD, the base station may determine based on a class or other identity of the transmitting WCD whether to forward the received data for transmission onto a transport network or rather whether to discard the data. The base station may then act accordingly. This arrangement may help improve performance in a scenario where many WCDs in a coverage area, such as embedded WCDs, would tend to transmit small amounts of data often, but the disclosed arrangement is more generally applicable as well.

  • Patent number: 9088668
Abstract: A computing device can utilize one or more sensors to capture data associated with a current environment, state, condition, property, etc. of the device. Based at least in part on the captured data, the current environment, state, condition, property, etc. of the computing device can be determined or identified. Based on the determined/identified current environment, state, condition, property, etc., the computing device can configure the notification intensity level for the device. The device can determine a suitable notification intensity level and set that notification intensity level for the device. An incoming communication received at the computing device while the device is still associated with the determined/identified current environment, state, condition, property, etc. can cause a notification to be outputted at the set notification intensity level.

  • Patent number: 9088870
Abstract: The present invention relates to positioning in a communication network. In Long Term Evolution, LTE networks the positioning server E-SLMC needs routing information in order to communicate with individual base stations, eNodeBs. For LTE networks configured with one Mobility Management Entity, MME or one pool of MMEs, the routing information can be obtained by interrogating the MME or an arbitrary MME in the MME pool. However, if the network is configured with several MME pools serving different sets of eNodeBs, the E-SLMC has now knowledge of which MME or MME pool that is serving a certain eNodeB. The invention includes a method and a position server (111) configured to quickly determine which MME pool (120,130) is serving a certain eNodeB (141-153) so that the relevant routing information necessary for the positioning server (111) to communicate with the eNodeBs (141-153) is obtained.

  • Patent number: 9084200
Abstract: A system and a method of controlling transmitter power in a wireless communication system in which user data is processed as a multirate signal in which the user data signal having a first rate is converted into a transmission data signal having a faster second rate for transmission. The transmission power is adjusted on a relatively slow basis based on quality of data received by a receiver of the transmitted data. The transmitter power is determined as a function of the first and second rates such that a change in the data rate in the multiple channels or the rate of the transmission data signal is compensated in advance of a quality of data based adjustment associated with such data rate change.

  • Patent number: 9084149
Abstract: A method for communicating in an advanced long term evolution (LTE-A) network using common reference signal (CRS) resources associated with different interference levels due to resource partitioning is disclosed. Signals are received from an eNodeB indicating a subset of CRS resources for radio link monitoring (RLM) and/or reference signal received power (RSRP) measuring. The subset of CRS resources includes the CRS resources expected to have lower interference from the interfering eNodeBs. RLM and/or RSRP measurements are performed based on the indicated subset.

  • Patent number: 9078228
Abstract: Estimating a location of a first mobile communication unit (220) in a cellular wireless communications system (200) comprises comparing a first signature from the first mobile communication unit with known signatures. The first signature may comprise control information, a set of observable cells and received power level information for the first mobile communication unit (220). A location estimate is provided from the known location of a known signature in a database (410), if that known signature matches the first signature. The comparison may be a correlation to determine the degree of matching. Context information may link two or more known signatures in the database (410), the known signatures having been obtained in temporal succession from one mobile device (258) in use in the system. The context information may be used in the comparison.

  • Patent number: 9071932
Abstract: Communication by location method that geoplaces asynchronous message threads to a specific first geographic location geo-fence within which they are visible, and a second sub geo-fence for replies. The message threads have a first viewing distance parameter, a second reply parameter, and other parameters such as optional user set password prefixes. Users with mobile devices such as GPS equipped smart phones may set their devices to discover non-password protected message threads that are within a specified radius of the actual device itself, or a device virtual map location, and may use passwords to find password protected message threads. Generally only users with a real geographic proximity to the thread within the specified reply distance may reply to the thread. The method will generally be implemented by software residing on mobile devices and host servers, and may additionally use data from map servers to place the treads in a map context.

  • Patent number: 9026110
Abstract: Methods and systems for using coverage or capacity classifications regarding a macro RF network to manage registration of femtocells with a service provider network (SPN) so as to avoid signaling overload are described herein. After a wide-scale power outage within an area where multiple femtocells are located, the femtocells can power on and attempt to register with the SPN at about the same time. The femtocells can scan RF signals received from the macro network and classify the received RF signals with respect to capacity or coverage of the macro network at the time of transmitting the RF signals. A device within the SPN can determine whether classification of the received RF signals is associated with dropping or accepting a registration request associated with the classified RF signals. The SPN device can accept the registration request or drop the registration request and request the femtocell to transmit another registration request.
