    Abstract: A transformer (202) has a bobbin (2) which has an inner portion (104) supporting an inner electrical winding (140) and having a magnetic core recess. The inner portion is located within an outer portion (4) supporting an outer electrical winding (40). The inner portion further has an end with a termination connected to the inner winding, an annular recess (126) in which the inner winding is situated, and a channel (132) communicating between the termination end of the inner portion and a remote end of the annular recess. The channel is positioned radially inwardly of the first annular recess and accommodates a portion of the inner winding. By providing the channel radially inwardly of the annular recess, winding wire can extend between the termination end of the inner portion and the remote end of the annular recess across the annular recess without significantly increasing the size of the inner portion and without increasing the gap between the inner and outer portions.

    Abstract: An apparatus for forming an image of a document on a photoreceptor includes a charging device for charging the photoreceptor so as to form an image region, an eliminating device for eliminating a charge on the photoreceptor to form a non-image region, and a scanner for moving from a stop position to scan a document with an exposure light so that a latent image, corresponding to an image of the document, is formed on the image region of the photoreceptor. The scanner also moves backward and stops at the stop position. A position signal corresponding to a predetermined position of the scanner is generated by a signal device. A timer starts counting a time responsive to the position signal. The timer produces a first and second timing signal after the scanner stops at the stop position.

    Abstract: A fuser for an image-forming apparatus includes a fusing roller which is replaceable in a cartridge. The fusing roller cartridge includes a cover for covering an access opening providing access to the fusing roller. The cover is openable, either directly by an operator to a latched condition, by the apparatus in response to insertion of the cartridge, by the operator before insertion but held in an uncovering position by the receiving apparatus or by suitable mechanism in the apparatus after insertion of the cartridge. Preferably, the cover closes early in the removal motion so that the fingers of the removing operator cannot touch a hot fusing roller. A metallic heat shield between the fusing roller and the cartridge housing helps prevent the housing from becoming too hot to touch.

    Abstract: A method of manufacturing a coil for a transformer and in particular a high voltage transformer in which the starting end of a wire with a bondable thermoplastic sheet is electrically conductively connected to an axially slit sleeve of non-magnetic metal which sleeve is placed on a rotary winding tool to form an essentially cylindrical wire winding directly on the sleeve with the end faces of the sleeve extending beyond the winding. Heat is applied to the winding to bond the individual turns to each other. One end of the sleeve carrying the winding is placed on the bottom of a casting mold and the end of the wire remote from the starting end is connected to a terminal. A casting compound is introduced into the mold to anchor the connecting terminal. The outside of the casting compound is provided with an electrically conductive casing which is electrically connected to the sleeve.

The printing apparatus further comprises a control circuit for detecting overheating of the fixing unit and commanding the conveyor unit to stop conveyance of paper after confirming that no paper is present in the fixing unit when the fixing unit is detected to be overheating.

    Abstract: A vapor cooled current lead for a superconducting device located in a cryostat includes a normal conductor section extending from ambient conditions inward to an intermediate point, and a composite lead having a ceramic high temperature superconductor core with a metallic sheath extending between the normal conductor section and the superconducting device, preferably in a helical path to reduce heat leak by conduction. The metallic sheath is stripped away at spaced intervals, preferably adjacent the low temperature end of the composite lead, and the gaps are filled with a filler which provides mechanical strength for the core and reduces thermal conduction. A flow of cryogen vapor directed by a tubular housing maintains the high temperature superconducting material below its critical temperature, and cools the normal conductors.

    Abstract: A proximity detector has a casing containing a probe (4) and a printed circuit (3), the upper end of the casing being closed by a plug (35) provided with a filling orifice (14) and with connecting-pins (36). The nozzle of a plastic injector (13) is fitted in position within the filling orifice, said nozzle being provided with two adjacent ducts. A hardenable resin is caused by centrifugation to flow into the casing via a first duct while simultaneously driving-out the air which is present within the casing via the second duct, thus ensuring rapid and efficient filling. When the casing has been filled and the resin has hardened, the injector (13) is cut-off in close proximity to the plug (35). Complete filling can be checked by inspecting the surface appearance of the two leading portions of solidified resin flux which are thus visible at the level of the orifice (14).

Each winding has a conductor wire which is doubly or, preferably, triply sheathed with insulating tapes of different widths. The second or intermediate insulating tape, less in width than the first, is wound overlappingly in a second direction, opposite to the first direction, over the first insulating tape and bonded thereto via a preformed adhesive layer on the second insulating tape. The third or outmost insulating tape, still less in width than the second, is wound overlappingly in the first direction over the second insulating tape and bonded thereto via a preformed adhesive layer on the third insulating tape. The ratio of the overlap of each tape to the tape width becomes progressively less from the inmost toward the outmost tape.
