  • Patent number: 5412157
Abstract: A semiconductor device includes a molded resin encapsulating a semiconductor chip, outer leads extending from the molded resin and having free ends, and a resin layer connecting and supporting the outer leads along the entire length of the outer leads. The resin layer may have an activating ability for soldering. A method for manufacturing a semiconductor device includes preparing a semiconductor device having a molded resin and a plurality of outer lead portions extending from the molded resin and connected to a lead frame, forming a resin film on and between the outer lead portions; cutting the lead portions to provide cantilevered outer leads having free ends; lead-forming the outer leads with lead-forming dies while heating the resin film to form a resin layer connecting and supporting the outer leads along the entire lengths of the outer leads, and taking the semiconductor device out of the lead-forming dies after the resin layer has been cured.

  • Patent number: 5408044
Abstract: A television remote control adaptor includes a protective housing for receiving the remote control unit and oversized pushbuttons for manipulating the remote control unit from outside of the adaptor. The television remote control is held in precise orientation of the adaptor by a spring retainer clip. An aperture at one end of the housing permits the infrared transmitters of the remote control unit to activate a television set. An open mesh is attached across the closed face of the housing adjacent to the remote control pushbuttons. Four or five adaptor buttons are attached to the outside of the mesh and held in place by a pair of leg protrusions that engage the mesh. A longer, thinner protrusion, also attached to the adaptor button, passes through the mesh and contacts the underlying remote control pushbuttons when the adaptor button is depressed by the user.

  • Patent number: 5406033
Abstract: A composite link and insulator, and method of construction, includes a fiberglass body. The body is formed by coating glass fibers with a liquid resin and winding the fibers around a plurality of tubular fittings or bushings in two layers, a first extending longitudinally of the body and the second transversely and around the first. A polymer shield layer and weathersheds are injection molded over the fiberglass body to create an insulator. The insulator may also be provided with stiffening plastic inserts at either end for increasing strength without adding significantly to the insulator's overall weight.

  • Patent number: 5406366
Abstract: Disclosed is a copying machine for forming a multicolored image, having a plurality of developing devices which contain toner of different colors, and a color image sensor for reading an original image. The copying machine judges each part of the original image whether to be a monochromatic area or a color area, from image data collected by the color image sensor. Then, the copying machine reproduces the monochromatic area by use of only one of the developing devices which contains black toner, and reproduces the color area by use of more than one of the developing devices which contain other color toner. Further, the copying machine detects a border area between the monochromatic area and the color area, and reproduces the border area by use of all the developing devices.

  • Patent number: 5404213
Abstract: To prevent spurious adherence of toner to the surface of a photosensitive drum during start-up of an electrophotographic printing apparatus, once rotation of the drum and charging of the drum surface to a predetermined potential are initiated, rotation of a developing roller to bring toner into contact with the drum surface is delayed until the charged portion of the drum surface has been rotated around to a position facing the developing roller. Applications of appropriately timed biasing voltages to the developing roller and an image transfer roller are also utilized to prevent spurious toner attraction to the surfaces of the drum and the transfer roller.

  • Patent number: 5404195
Abstract: An exposed and developed photographic film is moved through a copying machine between a fixedly mounted lower guide member and an upper guide member which is movable up and down away from and toward the lower guide member. The confronting surfaces of the guide members have raised portions which surround registering windows of the guide members and engage a film all the way around a film frame which is aligned with the windows when the film is brought to a halt. Once the imaging of the frame which is aligned with the windows is completed, several springs lift the upper guide member, and ports in the raised portions of the confronting surfaces discharge jets of compressed air which cause the film to levitate between the two guide members during advancement of the next film frame to a position of alignment with the windows. This reduces the likelihood of scratching of and/or other damage to the film during transport.

  • Patent number: 5402221
Abstract: An imaging apparatus having a drive roller in an imaging zone includes a guideplate assembly for controlling the velocity of a substrate. The assembly has a guideplate with the inlet end disposed adjacent to a dispensing magazine and the outlet end disposed adjacent to the imaging zone. The guideplate assembly has a pushing finger movable therealong, a velocity-controlling sidewall and a spring-loaded biasing member disposed along opposed edges of the guideplate. The biasing member urges an edge of the substrate into frictional contact against a portion of the sidewall directly opposite the member while the pushing finger simultaneously engages the substrate to propel the substrate at a predetermined controlled velocity toward the outlet end of the guideplate against the frictional force imposed on the substrate by the sidewall. The predetermined controlled velocity is at least ninety percent of the rotational speed of the drive roller.

  • Patent number: 5397854
Abstract: An absorber for a microwave module and method of fabrication thereof wherein an ink is provided from a mixture of powdered iron and a resin. The ink is then screen printed or mask printed onto the interior surface of the lid of the microwave module in a predetermined pattern to lower the Q of the cavities within the module. The lowered Q suppresses the electromagnetic resonance and thereby minimizes the EMI problems. Furthermore, the absorber material reduces EMI between sections of the module at frequencies where no cavity resonances occur.

  • Patent number: 5393951
Abstract: A flexible laminated jumper is formed from a stack of half hard tempered copper sheets. Contact plates are clamped to opposite sides of one end of the stack, such plates being provided with short stress relief sections away from the end of the stack. The clamped end is positioned properly in a press welder so that the flat portion of the contact plates are gripped by graphite electrodes of a press welder. The gripped end of the stack is then press welded while the balance of the stack is cooled so that the heat from the press welding does not affect the temper of the sheets of the stack. This is preferably done by immersion in chilled water with the water level being in close proximity to the electrode. After the press welding, the entire stack is cooled and the still tempered stack is formed to the desired configuration.
