  • Patent number: 9936348
Abstract: In one embodiment, techniques are provided to establish and use semantic associations between location profiles and ambient profiles. One or more location profiles are selected from a location database. A first plurality of ambient profiles is selected for a first area surrounding one or more geographic locations of the location profiles. One or more patterns are extracted from the first plurality of ambient profiles and are used to generate associations between location profiles and ambient profiles in an association database which semantically associates location profiles with ambient profiles independent of geographic location. The associations may be used, among other things, to service requests from mobile devices and/or update ambient profiles or location profiles.

  • Patent number: 9924370
Abstract: Systems, methods, and software for controlling transmissions of User Equipment (UE) on an unlicensed spectrum. In one embodiment, a base station communicates with the UE through radio communications on a licensed spectrum of a carrier. The base station transmits a query to a policy control element requesting spectrum selection criteria for the UE over a direct interface. The base station receives a response from the policy control element that includes the spectrum selection criteria for the UE, and processes the spectrum selection criteria to allocate resources for transmissions involving the UE on the licensed spectrum and on the unlicensed spectrum. The base station then provides a control message including the allocated resources towards the UE to enable the UE to perform the transmissions on the unlicensed spectrum, the licensed spectrum, or a combination of the two.

  • Patent number: 9924532
Abstract: The invention provides for association of data streams (and/or logical channels) with individual carriers (cells), and independent buffer status reporting per carrier for terminals with more than one uplink carrier configured. In a “Small Cell” scenario for 3GPP LTE, a terminal may be simultaneously served by a macro cell and one or more small cells. These may operate at different frequencies, have different traffic loading and support different QoS (Quality of Service). The invention allows independent control of traffic on the uplinks to the macro cell and the small cells, which can be used to optimize the user experience in relation to the available resources at any given time/location, and allows particular data to be routed via particular cells.

  • Patent number: 9924308
Abstract: Embodiments of the disclosure relate to determining location of client devices in a distributed antenna system (DAS) based on detecting uplink received power. In this regard, a client device location system is provided in the DAS to configure each remote unit in the DAS to generate a power-regulated UL communications signal based on an assigned power pattern. If a respective power pattern of a reference signal(s) uniquely identifying a client device corresponds to the assigned power pattern of the remote unit that generates the power-regulated UL communications signal, the client device location system reports the location of the remote unit as the location of the client device in the DAS. Hence, it is possible to locate the client device based on the location of the remote unit, thus providing the location of the client device with higher degree of accuracy.

  • Patent number: 9907107
Abstract: The embodiments herein relate to a method in a first target CN node for handling handover of a wireless device from a source CN node to another CN node. The first target CN node receives, from the source CN node, a request message to hand over the wireless device. The first target CN node determines that the first target CN node is unsuitable for handover. The first target CN node determines if there is at least one candidate second target CN node suitable for handover. The first target CN node determines whether the request message should be forwarded to the at least one candidate second target CN node or whether the source CN node should be informed regarding if there is at least one candidate second target CN node that is suitable.

  • Patent number: 9883426
Abstract: A method, user equipment and a base station for handover in device-to-device communication are disclosed. To maintain continuity of the ongoing device-to-device communication after the handover, an enhanced reporting mechanism is introduced such that the user equipment with the ongoing device-to-device communication would be handed over to a cell of a neighbor base station that supports the device-to-device communication. In this manner, the device-to-device communication continuity may be maintained.

  • Patent number: 9883396
Abstract: In one arrangement, a first device presents a display that is based on context data, derived from one or more of its sensors. This display is imaged by a camera in a second device. The second device uses context data from its own sensors to assess the information in the captured imagery, and makes a determination about the first device. In another arrangement, social network friend requests are automatically issued, or accepted, based on contextual similarity. In yet another arrangement, delivery of a message is triggered by a contextual circumstance other than (or in addition to) location. In still another arrangement, two or more devices automatically establish an ad hoc network (e.g., Bluetooth pairing) based on contextual parallels. In still another arrangement, historical context information is archived and used in transactions with other devices, e.g., in challenge-response authentication. A great number of other features and arrangements—many involving head-mounted displays—are also detailed.

  • Patent number: 9883518
Abstract: A radio network node serves a first cell in a radio communications network, and is configured to measure a received total power value at the radio network node in the first cell, compute a factor indicating a load in the first cell, estimate a noise floor level in the first cell, and compute a utilization probability value of the load in the first cell and a neighbor cell interference value simultaneously in a non-linear interference model. This is based on the measured received total power value, the computed factor, and the estimated noise floor level in the first cell. The neighbor cell interference value is an interference from at least one second cell affecting said first cell, and the utilization probability value of the load in the first cell and/or the neighbor cell interference value is to be used for managing radio resources in the radio communications network.

  • Patent number: 9877203
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are described for wireless communication. A device may use enhanced reporting mechanisms to support control information reporting on shared spectrum. In some cases, a device may utilize enhanced component carriers (eCCs) for data transmissions. In one example, the device may transmit control information (e.g., ACK/NACK, CSI, etc.) to a corresponding device using a CCA exempt transmission (CET). In another example, a device may report control information quasi-periodically. For instance, a device may be assigned a specified interval and a control feedback window for reporting control information (e.g., CSI). The window may provide a duration prior and subsequent to the specified interval during which a UE may transmit control information. For example, the device may perform a CCA reserving the channel for a duration that does not include the specified interval but may transmit feedback information based on determining the specified interval falls within the assigned window.
