  • Patent number: 9854405
Abstract: A drive safety application (app) that is controls other mobile app(s) and/or functionality of a communication device is centrally regulated via a network device. A manual override instruction can be provided to the network device by an authorized subscriber (e.g., via an online portal) and accordingly, the network device can instruct the communication device to disable the drive safety app. Profiling data is collected from various sources, such as, but not limited to, device sensors, location calculators, a vehicle's onboard diagnostic system (e.g., OBD2) sensors (e.g., via wireless link), scanned access points, etc. The profiling data can be utilized to calibrate device sensors of the communication device and to determine a location and/or context of the user. Further, a set of the mobile apps can be disabled/enabled based on an analysis of the location and/or context.

  • Patent number: 9848336
Abstract: The techniques described herein enable a commercial cellular service provider to use a repurposed portion of spectrum to provide cellular service to a customer base while ensuring that the use of the repurposed portion of spectrum does not interfere with a previous use of the repurposed portion of spectrum by an incumbent entity. The techniques determine, and manage the use of, forbidden cells and clean cells. A “forbidden” cell is a cell in which a previous use of spectrum by an incumbent entity is protected. A “clean” cell is a cell that can be freely used by the commercial cellular service provider without a possibility of interference with a protected use of the spectrum by the incumbent entity.

  • Patent number: 9832627
Abstract: Method and system to include a TETRA member (subscriber) in an ongoing PS-LTE group call using SS-LE, by mapping a plurality of specific SS-LE messages is disclosed. The embodiments herein enable TETRA SS-LE service to interwork with PS LTE GCS. The process involves the steps of queuing the TETRA call leg at the PS LTE GCS AS, informing the TETRA SwMI to activate SS-LE for a TETRA member, embedding a SS-LE PDU as a payload in the SIP messaging module, defining and interrogating a SS-LE service on a GCS AS via the authorized user on the TETRA SwMI or on the PS-LTE network. The TETRA member is connected to the ongoing group call through a gateway. The TETRA SwMI works as the TETRA core and the LTE to TETRA Gateway facilitates the process of message mapping and protocol conversion.

  • Patent number: 9801198
Abstract: The timing used by communication equipment in a licensed frequency band by is used by the communication equipment for communication in an unlicensed frequency band. Time divisions, such as frames, subframes, timeslots, and symbol times, defined for use in the licensed frequency band are used by the communication equipment to communicate in the unlicensed frequency band. Before a transmitting device transmits within the unlicensed frequency band, the unlicensed frequency band is monitored for radio frequency energy to determine if the spectrum is currently being used. If no energy is detected, or the level is below a threshold, it is determined that the unlicensed band can be used by the transmitter.
