  • Patent number: 6019402
Abstract: A vehicle door latch has a forkbolt, a detent that holds the forkbolt in a latched position, a release mechanism that moves the detent to release the forkbolt, a lock mechanism for disabling the release mechanism, an inside lock lever for operating the lock mechanism and a double lock for disabling the inside lock lever. The detent is moved by an intermittent lever that is part of the release mechanism and part of the locking mechanism. A composite lock lever forming part of the lock mechanism moves the intermittent lever back and forth between an unlock position where the intermittent lever drives the detent to release the forkbolt and a lock position where the intermittent lever free wheels with respect to the detent. The intermittent lever is pivotally connected to an unlatching lever of the release mechanism that is operated by inside and outside release levers.

  • Patent number: 6010165
Abstract: A vehicle door latch mechanism includes a latch assembly, an inside latch handle assembly, an outside latch handle assembly, a lock assembly and a child security assembly. An unlocking assembly is disposed between the lock assembly and the inside latch handle assembly. The unlocking assembly interrelates the inside latch handle assembly and the lock assembly so that operating the inside latch handle unlocks the door. This allows a person to unlatch the door from outside the door even when the door is latched and locked, and even when the child security lock is activated.

  • Patent number: 6007121
Abstract: A thermoplastic housing has a chamber open at one end and a bottom wall at the other end. A thermoplastic rotor is locked axially in the chamber by a snap fitting ridge and groove. A one or more bores are in the housing bottom wall in communication with the chamber. The rotor has a central boss with one or more bores aligned with the housing bores in an initial position of the rotor and includes an outer ring with axially depending radially flexible pawls which engage housing ratchet teeth in the chamber. The pawls and teeth rotationally lock the rotor relative to the housing in one direction while seal filament segments inserted in the aligned bores are twisted about each other or about a post in the cavity. The rotor is rotated relative to the housing manually by finger gripped-flanges attached to the rotor and to the housing. The rotor ring and boss are spaced by a weakening groove which causes the boss to permanently separate from the ring when the filament is pulled in an attempt to defeat the seal.

  • Patent number: 6007114
Abstract: A lock has an actuating nut rotatable about an axis and formed with a radially extending guide, a bolt-controlling push rod slidable offset from the axis in a predetermined direction transverse to the axis, and a slide displaceable radially of the axis in the guide and having an outer end remote from the axis. A pin is engaged between the outer end of the slide and the push rod so that on rotation of the nut about the axis the slide and pin move angularly relative to the axis and the slide moves radially relative to the axis. The guide is a groove formed in the nut and he push rod is formed with a hole receiving the pin and the pin is fixed on the outer end of the slide.

  • Patent number: 6006557
Abstract: An apparatus which inhibits the theft of equipment such as personal computers is disclosed. The equipment typically includes an external wall provided with a specially designed, approximately rectangular slot having preselected dimensions. An attachment mechanism includes a housing for a spindle having a first portion rotatable within the housing, a shaft extending outwardly from the housing, and a crossmember at the end of the shaft having peripheral dimensions closely conforming to the internal dimensions of the slot. The spindle is then rotated 90.degree. to misalign the crossmember with the slot, thereby attaching the attachment mechanism rigidly to the external wall. A cable is secured to the housing and to an immovable object so that the equipment cannot be stolen.

  • Patent number: 6003910
Abstract: Lock comprising a rotary latch and a pawl for retaining the latch; external opening control rod and internal opening control rod for acting on the pawl by way of an intermediate lever and an electric drive. The intermediate lever has one end connected to the pawl. The lever being articulated in such a way as to be able to pivot at least about two different axes forming an angle between them. A pivoting of the lever about a first direction permits the locking function to be performed, a pivoting of the lever about the second direction permits the child safety function to be performed, and a combined pivoting of the lever about the first and second directions permits the double-locking function to be performed, so that the electric drive has only to control two movements in order to execute the three functions: locking, child safety and double-locking.

  • Patent number: 6003908
Abstract: A latch includes an angled bracket having a front flange and a rear flange, each flange defining a hole, a cylindrical bolt having a front end and a rear end with an orthogonal bolt handle located intermediate of the front and rear ends, and a coil spring. The angled bracket includes at least two substantially orthogonal contiguous sides which extend from the front flange to the rear flange where these sides contain a substantially U-shaped slot, a portion of which lies on one of the sides and a portion of which lies on the other side. The bolt is arranged relative to the angled bracket such that the bolt handle extends through the slot and the ends of the bolt extend through the respective holes in the flanges. The spring is arranged coaxial to the bolt and biases the bolt forward to a latched position. In order to move the bolt to the unlatched position, the bolt must be both rotated and translated for the bolt handle to move through the U-shaped slot.

  • Patent number: 6003351
Abstract: The present invention discloses an improved structure for a mortise lock comprising a lock body, a lock core, a plurality of spring washers, a plurality of straps and a latch in the lock body. Each spring washer has a curved portion to hook onto the washer holding slot, a claw to hook onto the strap tenon or the washer holding slot and a rim slot to forcibly contact the positioning pin and indirectly hold the strap tenon. With such mechanism a resilient force may be produced to prevent the straps from being shifted out of their positions due to vibration even after the lock is opened. This improved structure makes the mortise lock of the present invention can not only be used on static objects such as telephone sets or mail boxes, but also effectively applicable to any moving object.

  • Patent number: RE36544
Abstract: The closing of tubular casings containing foodstuffs by mounting a binder on a constriction of the casing involves the traditional problem of a high waste percentage due to the binders either damaging the casing material or sliding off the constriction. A method and a binder are proposed which makes it possible to obtain a very strong clamping of the binder without damaging the casing material, and, in connection with tight plastic casings, it is even possible to provide a "super tight" closure, by ranging the constriction with an oblong cross section between opposed straight clamping beams, which are forced together so as to produce a controlled deformation flowing of the casing material.
