  • Patent number: 5956979
Abstract: A Lock-less Equipment Cable Security System (LECS) is used to secure from theft equipment loaded on vehicles with locking compartments. The cable can be used to secure equipment to any facility or equipment that has a hollow compartment large enough to enclose the balls, with a lockable cove door, lid, or window and physical space tolerance for the cable insertion through the closure. A plastic-coated steel security cable without attachments such as cable end-collars and security locks is threaded through equipment loaded on a vehicle. Then each cable end is threaded through a solid ball manufactured with 2 holes drilled at an angle and size sufficiently small to prevent the cable from releasing the balls when pulled on. The cable ends with attached balls are then locked in a vehicle compartment, securing the loaded equipment. The balls have holes drilled in them in such a manner that they will not detach from the cable without being held and the cable unthreaded.

  • Patent number: 5951070
Abstract: Actuator for vehicle door locks provides powered shifting of a mechanism component while permitting manual operation thereof. A motor powers a driver annulus having internal teeth and notches in respective axial zones with each tooth being diametrically opposite a notch. A spring-loaded index across the annulus interior has a tail co-acting with the notches and a head co-acting with the teeth and is guided by fixed structure that it can only move angularly to displace the component to which it is linked, by indexing past a tooth when its tail is in a notch. Powered movement of the annulus causes the teeth to selectively shift the index, but manual displacement of the component causes the index to spring past the relevant tooth.

  • Patent number: 5947534
Abstract: A panic device that can be easily installed and used with standard doors and door jambs manufactured or prepared for conventional latching mechanisms is disclosed. The disclosed panic device can be used to replace a door knob without replacing or significantly altering the door or door frame. The latching mechanism of the panic device is housed in the hollow sections of a standard door and door jamb, e.g., in sections formerly occupied by a knob and its associated latching mechanism. The panic device includes a panic bar apparatus mounted on the exterior of the door and a latch compressing mechanism occupying the hollow section of the door. The panic bar apparatus and latch compressing mechanism interact with one another to control the movement of a latch bolt inside the door, i.e., the same latch bolt as that employed in the conventional two-knob arrangement. The latch compressing mechanism may also be controlled by a standard door knob or handle mounted on the side of the door opposite the panic bar.

  • Patent number: 5943890
Abstract: A lock mechanism has at least one tumbler pin having one or more slots in the tip surface of the pin and a key blade which is formed with a projection extending from the surface of the bitting area. The tumbler pin can be rotatable in such a manner that it will seek to accommodate the projection on the surface of the key and to match the surfaces of the key and tumbler pin tip, thus aligning the tumbler pin at a position predetermined by the key bitting. In this regard, the tumbler pin tip is preferably tapered and adapted to engage with a key having a complementarily shaped bitting surface, i.e., complementary to the tapered surface of the tumbler pin tip, such that the tumbler pin will seek to accommodate the tapered surface of the key bitting to align the tumbler pin at a proper position. Alternatively, the tumbler pin can include a projection or the like to inhibit rotation of the tumbler pin.

  • Patent number: 5934113
Abstract: A padlock concept consisting of a novel shackle comprised of two tapered shackle elements arranged so that they overlay each other to enclose and opening sufficient to accept the staple of a hasp or attachment device. The shackle elements are connected at one end and when unlocked and unlatched are free to move apart, in a motion causing the two shackle elements to separate, providing a clearance between them, at the unconnected end. Each shackle element includes an opening to allow the staple of the hasp to pass to the common opening. This clearance occurs in opposing elements so that when the elements are brought together or closed the staple of the hasp is completely enclosed by the two shackle elements which substantially fill the space available within the hasp staple. The elements are then latched and locked to provide the security function of a padlock engaged with the staple of a hasp or attachment device.
