  • Patent number: 5988711
Abstract: The invention relates to an arresting/release device for a swing catch of a working current door opener with a catch lever, which arrests or releases the swing catch, a first safety lever, which maintains the catch lever in the arrested position and is pivotable with the aid of an electromagnet to a position releasing the catch lever, and with a second safety lever, which acts on the first safety lever for impact protection of the catch lever. In order to achieve an impact protection advantageous from the manufacturing and installation standpoint, the second safety lever is constituted by a mechanically decoupled lever of low mass mounted in its center of gravity. This symmetrically constructed, vibration-proof, second safety lever secures the first safety lever in an impact-preventing position and is magnetically coupled to and pivotable with the coil core, which is made from a soft magnetic material and has a relatively long acceleration path.

  • Patent number: 5988708
Abstract: An exit bar for securing a door has a housing adapted for mounting to a door. A push pad for receiving a push force is mounted to the housing. A latch extends from the housing to releasably latch the door to which the exit bar is mounted. A link system links the push pad to the latch so that a push force exerted on the push pad releases the latch. An electromagnetic lock disposed in the housing locks the link system to prevent releasing of the latch. The electromagnetic lock employs an electromagnet and a movable armature to lock the link system. The exit bar further delays unlocking the link system for a preestablished delay time after the push pad has been pushed.

  • Patent number: 5987945
Abstract: A safety closure for controlled access, that includes an inner and outer unit mounted on a door to drive a main bolt and a privacy bolt. The outer unit has an armored chassis with a primary tube of the actuating handle and carrying a secondary tube having a square axis that drives the main latch. A retractable tenon provides the connection between the primary and secondary tubes and a retractor treadle is in permanent contact with the retractable tenon and a rocker having elastic arms that drives the retractor treadle. A motorize actuator is activated by an electronic card reader. The motorized actuator or an emergency handle may actuate the rocker in opposite directions. The inner tube has first and second pushing tabs symmetrically arranged in mutual opposition whereby the pushing tabs act independently of each other in response to the direct or opposite turning of the inner actuating handle to actuate the privacy bolt. An emergency lock cylinder drives the emergency handle.

  • Patent number: 5983684
Abstract: A new anti-theft device for locking a telescopic fluidic piston-cylinder actuator in an extended piston position. The inventive device includes an elongate strut wall member having an arcuate wall portion with a pair of side wall portions. The side wall portions are spaced apart to define an elongate channel extending between the first and second ends of the strut wall member. The channel is designed for receiving the extended piston portion of a piston-cylinder actuator therein. Each side wall portion has an aperture extending through each of them. The distal end of an elongate locking pin is insertable through the apertures of the side wall portions such that the locking pin is extendible between the side wall portions across the channel of the strut wall member.

  • Patent number: 5974840
Abstract: A device and method for deterring the theft of personal computers having an unused serial or parallel port. An eyelet bolt is screwed into each of the threaded apertures adjacent the unused port and the eyelets are then secured to some relatively immovable object by a chain or steel cable. The chain or steel cable may simply pass through the eyelets or may be secured to the eyelets with a padlock, in either case preventing the eyelets from rotating and being removed from the computer. The opposite end of the cable or chain may simply be wrapped around the immovable object or locked to it as by a second pair of eyelets screwed into the lower surface of the computer desk.

  • Patent number: 5974842
Abstract: A locking slide latch comprises components that are easily assembled without the need for separate fasteners or adhesives. A presently preferred latch comprises a housing, a pawl received within the housing and an actuating member associated with and slidable relative to the housing for displacing the pawl from an extended position to a retracted position. These components are assembled together without the use of separate fasteners or adhesives, thereby simplifying assembly and allowing for interchangeability of parts to meet varying latch requirements. The latches are preferably manufactured from corrosion resistant materials such as plastics, composites and corrosion resistant metals, and are highly suitable for use in automotive, recreational vehicle and marine applications.

  • Patent number: 5975595
Abstract: A protector device for hardware latch members used in conventional containers and trailers to secure in place the pivoting locking bar members. The device includes a housing having a substantially rectangular cross-section defined by side walls, a top wall and a bottom wall. Hingedly mounted tabs extending outwardly from the inner edge of the side walls are foldable within the housing and secured on the hardware latch members of the door being protected. The distal ends of the latch members include openings though which a conventional protective seal member is passed. Upper and lower concave members join the walls' outer edges and they are separated defining aperture inbetween. In front of the aperture a convex wall is mounted to the outer edges of the side walls and cutouts on the upper and lower walls permit a protective seal member through. The latch members are completely covered and protected.

  • Patent number: 5970758
Abstract: An automobile steering lock includes a body member, a housing and a lock means. The locking means is contained in a lock housing in the housing, and consists of a base, plural number buttons, a press button, an adjust plate, plural wheels, a control plate, a press plate, a coil spring and a deadbolt. When the number buttons are all rotated to the preset coded number for unlocking, the press button can be pressed inward to force the press plate together with the deadbolt to move down to the unlocking position to free the housing from the body member. Thus this lock needs no keys, and the coded number is adjustable by a user, preventing the lock from being pried open by thieves.

  • Patent number: 5967572
Abstract: A vehicle door lock control arrangement includes a spring lock and an external actuator which is releasably connected to a release lever on the lock side. The release lever can be pivoted between a rest position and a release position against the force of a first spring to act on a pawl which normally retains the lock in its locked position. A further spring is also provided which prevents the lock from being partially released when it is connected to the external actuator. For this purpose, the further spring normally holds the release lever in the rest position but its connection to the release lever is automatically released during the initial actuation of the release lever.
