  • Patent number: 5119244
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for recording data information on a magnetic recording medium with the assistance of a magnetic write head and a controllable record amplifier preceding the magnetic write head and to which the data information in the form of binary data signals, as well as bias signals superimposed thereon are supplied, are disclosed. The recorded signals are, in turn, read with a playback device immediately after the recording. In a measuring device, the peak shift of the read output signals is measured and averaged. The amplitudes for the binary data signals and/or of the bias signals are corrected with a control signal generated by a control unit dependent on the average peak shift, being corrected in order to achieve an optimum relationship of read output signal amplitude to minimum peak shift.

  • Patent number: 5115356
Abstract: An improved decoder circuit suitable for decoding an encoded binary data stream. The encoding is expected to generate a three-part code format, the format, in turn, comprising a pair of clock transitions that set-off a data transition. The improved decoder circuit establishes whether or not the expected format is in fact realized under arbitrary operating conditions, and in the event of a failure to realize the expected format, provides a suitable format for a subsequent decoding procedure.

  • Patent number: 5113295
Abstract: An azimuth recording system has been adopted in order to heighten the recording intensity in a DAT (digital audio tape) recorder of rotary head type. For this reason, the width of a track is made more narrow than that of the magnetic head, and tracking control is conducted on the basis of the reproduction signals from the tracks at both sides during reproducing. In such a DAT recorder, in the case of rewriting data, the magnetic head is changed over to the recording mode at a point of time when reproduction operation is terminated for a corresponding track so that rewriting begins at a track which is disposed at least one thereafter the track to be rewritten, and new data is recorded, thereby causing a desired track which must be maintained to be prevented from being recorded over by a new track. In addition, a distinguisher information is recorded in each of tracks.

  • Patent number: 5101309
Abstract: While prior art apparatus for magnetic recording and playback (VTRs) were unable to perform magnetic recording of an FM signal with an optimum recording current responding to change of the optimum recording current dependent on kinds of magnetic tapes used and wear of heads, the magnetic recording of an FM signal with the optimum recording current at all times has been made possible by having a recorded signal along a track of a magnetic tape read by a level servo head scanning the track following the signal recording and having the recording current controlled to be optimized by use of a recording current controlling device based on the playback signal output from the level servo head. As a result, improvement of the S/N ratio and automatic adjustment of the recording current can be achieved. Further, by means of a head drive unit, the position of the level servo head is finely adjusted so that the control for optimization of the recording current is performed accurately.

  • Patent number: 5101306
Abstract: A clamp secures disks to a hub through means of a push-on retaining ring which is engaged with a grip ring received in an annular groove extending around the hub. The grip ring is split and expansible to enable it to be engaged with, or removed from, the groove. Spaced detent grooves are formed in the external surface of the grip ring to provide different positions at which the retaining ring may be engaged with the grip ring to alter the degree of compression imparted to the disks by the retaining ring. The retaining ring may be pushed fully past the grip ring to release the clamp. An installation and release fixture is provided to selectively move the retaining ring over the grip ring.

  • Patent number: 5099366
Abstract: The low frequency restorer of the invention restores the DC and low frequency contents to a digital signal which has been submitted to magnetic recording, playback and equalization processes. The restorer first provides a coarse representation of the originally recorded digital signal by clamping and subsequently hard limiting the equalized signal. The hard limited signal is then low pass filtered and the resulting signal, which is an approximation of the missing DC and low frequency components, is utilized as a correction signal, which is summed with the equalized signal, to restore the missing components. An alternative embodiment further eliminaes low frequency cross talk from the equalized signal by high pass filtering the equalized signal and low pass filtering the correction signal prior to summing.

  • Patent number: 5081549
Abstract: A tape handling apparatus comprising rotation detecting means for detecting the rotation of a pair of reel supports, and control means for controlling the operation of a capstan motor and a pinch roller pressing mechanism. When the detecting means detects the supply reel support stopping rotating while a tape is being rewound on the supply reel from the take-up reel, the control means moves a pinch roller away from the capstan and reversely rotates a capstan motor. Consequently, a slack portion of the tape between the capstan and a head cylinder is wound up on the take-up reel by the operation of the take-up reel support.
