  • Patent number: 4537099
Abstract: A combination tensioning and braking tool providing an improved mechanical means for removing interior portions from plates of plate vitreous material, such as glass. The tool includes a spring-loaded handle and a pair of cooperating jaws, both of which contain a movable head. The tool may be used for opening or running scored lines between holes which are drilled through the sheet by allowing pressure to be alternately applied to the same side of the scored line for the run and then pressure to the opposite side of the scored line for reverse runs. The tool may also be used for braking a cut when the pressure applying surfaces of the head means are in a nonworking position.

  • Patent number: 4537100
Abstract: The socket wrench extension is provided with a push-on/quick release locking arrangement. The extension has a square drive end having a transverse bore in which the lock balls are mounted for movement between a lock position in which one ball projects from one end of the bore far enough to engage a cooperating cavity in the drive recess of a socket or other tool and a release position in which both balls lie within the cross section of the drive end. One end of the bore being closer to the drive end than the other end of said bore. An axially extending groove intersects the end of the bore further from the end of the extension. A sliding member moves between a lock position and a release position and has said lock tab engaging one of said balls when the member is in its lock position. The member has a limited range of movement enabling the lock tab to be raised above the groove by means of force applied to the tab by the balls.

  • Patent number: 4535659
Abstract: A torque limiting wrench for limiting the magnitude of torque applied to a load is disclosed. The wrench comprises a fore-section rod having a head structure of a wrench or adjustable wrench, a fore-section member depending from the head structure and having two prongs and, a rear-section rod having a rear-section member with two flanges and a step round hollow rod depending from the rear-section member. A pivot mechanism connects the fore-section member to the rear-section member and allows the rods to pivot. An operational handle has a hollow cylinder with a base. A link shaft projects from the base and passes through the step round hollow rod. At the distal end of the link shaft is an adjustment block which is received by the interior surfaces of the rear-section member; the adjustment block is driven by rotation of the operational handle to adjust the pressure between the fore and rear-section members.

  • Patent number: 4532738
Abstract: An improved method for determining that coating has been removed from an article surface is provided for use in a method of removing a selected coating from an article surface having a composition different from the coating by impacting the coating with abrasive particles. The improved method includes selecting from the light spectrum a color which provides a color contrast between light emitted from the coating and light reflected from the article surface during coating removal in an impact intensity range using the abrasive particles. Provided is the selected color light environment in which the coated article surface is placed and then impacted with abrasive particles in the impact intensity range to create the color contrast and to remove coating from the article surface, the impact would be conducted until the color contrast disappears.

  • Patent number: 4528776
Abstract: A reversible d.c. torque motor advances and retracts a cone mechanism for radially expanding and contracting the stones of a tool for honing a bore in a workpiece. The motor is adapted to advance the cone mechanism at three different speeds so as to effect expansion of the tool first at a rapid traverse rate, then at a slower coarse feed rate and then at a still slower fine feed rate. Pulses representative of changes in position of the cone mechanism are routed to and are counted by a reversible counter which causes the cone mechanism to retract to different starting positions as the stones of the tool wear and reduce the effective diameter of the tool.

  • Patent number: 4526070
Abstract: In a pliers-type tool having a stationary first handle and a second handle pivotally movable relative to the first handle, a slidable jaw carrier is movable along a rectilinear guiding track in a body member due to the pivotal movement of the second handle. The first handle is fixed to the body member. The second handle is in engagement with a toggle mechanism including a driver arm which, in turn, is pivotally attached at a stationary location to the body member. When the second handle is pivoted, the driver arm contacts, in a gliding manner, the jaw carrier and moves it rectilinearly in the guiding track. The driver arm extends transversely of the rectilinear guiding direction of the guiding track. Forces acting through the driver arm in the direction transversely of the rectilinear direction of the guiding track are prevented from affecting the movement of the jaw carrier. The second handle can be connected to the first handle by a connecting link.

  • Patent number: 4519278
Abstract: An improvement to a pair of locking pliers comprising an extension to the locking pliers handle having an elongated brace for holding and turning, said brace attached in an off-set manner to a collar which in turn holds the handle of the pair of locking pliers. The collar is so off-set from the longitudinal axis of the brace extension to provide alignment of a held tool in the jaws of the locking pliers with the longitudinal axis of the brace extension in order that by rotation of the brace extension, direct rotation of the tool, such as a screw or bolt, held in the jaws of the locking pliers, is accomplished, and such may be done at a relatively long distance from the locking pliers and tool so held, additionally being accomplished with added torque and speed over use of the locking pliers without the improvement.

  • Patent number: 4517772
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a rigid computer memory disc where manufacturing operations may be simultaneously performed on both surfaces of the disc. The method that accomplishes the above is to initially provide a disc with a false inner diameter which is smaller than the desired inner diameter thereof. The space between the false inner diameter and the final inner diameter is used for clamping the disc. Thus, the whole final face is exposed for performing the various manufacturing steps.

  • Patent number: 4513539
Abstract: A device for setting the position of a workpiece relative to the endless abrasive belt of an abrasive grinding machine. The device employs a first sensor that can be extended to engage and sense the position of the endless abrasive belt when it is at rest. The device also utilizes a second sensor that can be moved to a position of engagement with the workpiece when it is at rest on a workpiece conveyor. The first and second sensors are constructed and arranged so that the position of one is mechanically related to the position of the other. A movable indicator senses the position of one of the first and second sensors and indicates such position relative to a reference position. The workpiece conveyor can be raised or lowered until the indicator is in the reference position, at which point the distance between the second sensor and the workpiece conveyor corresponds to the distance between the grinding portion of the endless abrasive belt and the workpiece conveyor.
