  • Patent number: 4466314
Abstract: A fastener with a special head having a threaded recess and torque receiving recesses is matched to a tool which threadably engages the head and utilizes the threaded engagement to provide a solid base for torque applicators, such as drive pins, drive blades or a serrated drive disc so that high torque fasteners which otherwise would use Phillips, Tri-wing or Reed and Prince torquing systems, can be installed and removed without fear of the torquing tool camming out of their heads and thereby ruining them or requiring extensive jigs or other holding devices to prevent such camming action.

  • Patent number: 4464956
Abstract: An improved cork-extracting device having a gas bomb filled with carbonic acid gas, inert gas or the like. The gas in the bomb is fed into the air-space present below the cork of the container, such as a bottle containing beverages such as wine, through a insertion needle whereby the pressure in the container raises to remove the cork automatically. The cork-extracting device is characterized in that a valve seat of a needle valve, which opens and closes the gas supply port, is made of a resilient valve seat plate, the lower surface of the resilient valve seat plate being used as a packing for supporting the cap of the gas bomb, accommodated in a cylindrical container, and the needle valve being able to protrude the resilient valve seat plate to open the cap of the gas bomb.

  • Patent number: 4458418
Abstract: This invention relates to a hand held hydraulic cutting tool particularly useful to deactivate ejection seats in military aircraft rescue operations. The tool consists primarily of a hydraulic system composed of a fluid reservoir 11, a pumping piston 16, and an actuator piston 26. Mechanical cutting jaws 28, 29 are attached to the actuator piston rod 26. The hydraulic system is controlled by a pump handle 18. As the pump handle 18 is operated the actuator piston rod 26 is forced outward and thus the cutting jaws are forced together. The frame of the device is a flexible metal tubing 30 which permits easy positioning of the tool cutting jaws in remote and normally inaccessible locations. Bifurcated cutting edges 28a and 28b ensure removal of a section of the tubing or cable (40, FIG. 3) to thereby reduce the possibility of accidental reactivation of the tubing or cable being severed.

  • Patent number: 4454790
Abstract: An apparatus for measuring mechanical strain in a bolt, stud or other tensile member includes a measuring rod which is held in a fixed position with respect to a selected point in an axial bore in the tensile member being measured. A bolt extension tube extends into the axial bore to provide a wrench support function and is held in a fixed position with respect to a second point on the tensile member. Straining the tensile member results in a relative displacement between the rod and the tube which is proportional to tensile member elongation. Means are provided for setting a preselected strain, measuring strain, displaying strain and providing a control signal to control straining of the tensile member.

  • Patent number: 4451982
Abstract: A knife having a blade pivoted to a handle is disclosed with a slidable bolt within the handle, the bolt being extended to lock the blade in an open position and retracted to permit closing of the blade. In one form of the invention, the blade includes a camming portion which retracts the bolt when the blade is opened. Also, a biasing mechanism is provided for urging the bolt into locking engagement with the blade. In another form of the invention, the bolt blade is locked in a closed position until the bolt is retracted. The handle is preferably of a unitary one-piece construction and has walls which define a tapered blade receiving slot. Bushings are held at an angle by these walls so that the bushings bear against the sides of the blade and aid in maintaining the blade in all operating positions. The knife blade is pivoted to the handle in a manner which permits removal of the blade for replacement or repair.

  • Patent number: 4447978
Abstract: Fish are captured utilizing a chain reaction of larger fish feeding on smaller fish. A bait-enclosing structure is mounted within a frame, and a first net is provided surrounding and substantially concentric with the bait-enclosing structure. The first net has openings formed therein large enough to allow small fish to insert their heads through the openings in an attempt to feed on the bait and catch their gills on the net if withdrawal is attempted. The assembly is lowered into a body of water, and after a predetermined time period a desired number of fish are trapped within the assembly utilizing a second net surrounding the first net, and then the assembly is raised to the surface. Entrapment may be provided by providing the second net having larger openings than the first net and concentric therewith, so that fish attempting to feed on fish caught by the first net will be caught by the second net.

  • Patent number: 4441387
Abstract: An open ended ratchet wrench comprising a wrenching disc having a radially disposed open ended nut recess, carrying pivoting tongue ratchet pawls, the disc held between two jaws with ratchet teeth engaged by the pawls. One of the jaws is pivotally retractable for installation and removal of the interchangeable wrenching disc. The handle carrying the jaws may be installed upon or removed from the disc regardless of the position of the nut recess and either laterally or longitudinally in respect to the nut. According to one aspect of the invention, a retractable jaw is pivotally connected to the handle and retained by matching notches in the jaw and the handle. The jaw pivot pin carries an eccentric cam which acts against an appropriately shaped perforation in the retractable jaw to disengage the notches.
