  • Patent number: 4424729
Abstract: An accessory for use with a screw driver and screw to prevent the screw driver from accidentally sliding off the screw head. The accessory is a sleeve having a bore to accept freely the screw driver bit and screw therein to permit rotation of the screw driver and screw relative to the bore. A releasable securing structure is mounted on the sleeve so as to engage the surface to receive the screw when an inner end of the sleeve is adjacent the surface, so as to releasably secure the sleeve to the surface. One embodiment of the releasable securing structure includes suction cups mounted adjacent the inner end of the sleeve and positioned so that there is a clearance between the end of the sleeve and the cups to permit the cups to be deformed elastically from an inactive condition prior to attachment to the surface.

  • Patent number: 4423646
Abstract: A rotary drill bit for drilling wells in earth formations is produced by a casting technique using a plastic foam, combustible casting form. The bit includes a tapered drill body having a plurality of passageways therein which form jets for introducing liquid between the earth and a plurality of selectively arranged, cutting members extending outwardly from the drill body. The combustible form is molded in a shape substantially identical to that of the drill body. The cutting members are mounted on the form in the selective arrangement thereof, and the assembly of the form and cutting members are then coated with a mold material to form a mold body. A cavity is created in the form for receiving a molding mandrel which defines the longitudinal passageway of the completed bit. Molding pins are introduced through the mold body into the mandrel to precisely hold the mandrel relative to the mold body. The cutting members are precisely held by the mold body after the form is removed by combustion.

  • Patent number: 4422238
Abstract: The present invention relates to a cutting tool which is utilized to sever a cylindrical body such as a cylindrical shroud of a factory-sealed vehicular suspension system of the type commonly referred to as a MacPherson strut suspension system. The tool is designed with a construction which permits the tool to sever the cylindrical shroud while the shroud remains attached to the vehicle. The tool comprises an upper control mechanism which is mechanically coupled to a lower cutting assembly by means of a pair of coaxial elongate tubes. The lower cutting assembly includes a plurality of circumferentially spaced, rotatable cutting wheels which are radially movable between a retracted position and an expanded position. The upper control mechanism determines the radial position of the cutting wheels by controlling the relative rotative position between the two elongate tubes.

  • Patent number: 4422355
Abstract: A device for controllably removing a bottle stopper from a bottle containing a liquid and natural high pressure gas, such as a sparkling wine, in which the stopper is conventionally held in place, at least in part, by a wire hood. There is a clamp for gripping the bottle adjacent the pouring lip, but free of the wire hood. There is also a clamp for gripping the stopper, which clamp will permit a loosening of the wire hood. There is a handle for applying an axial turning movement to the gripping device to torsionally remove the stopper from the bottle opening, which removal is under control and at no time will permit an uncontrolled discharge of the stopper.

  • Patent number: 4419848
Abstract: A stylus is attached to one end of a stylus holder which is mounted on a trunnion and adapted to rotate about a first axis. Attached to the trunnion is means for pivoting the trunnion about a second axis transverse to the first axis, in order to position the tip of the stylus adjacent a surface of a rotating scaife. A stream of fluid is directed against a vane attached to the stylus holder in a manner such that the fluid causes the holder to rotate about the trunnion, thereby changing the rotational position of the stylus without significantly altering the force of the stylus against the scaife.

  • Patent number: 4416169
Abstract: An automatic saw chain grinder includes a saw chain support mounted for reciprocative movement on a support carriage. A spring urges the carriage in one direction to move a cutter tooth of a supported saw chain into a grinding wheel against the residual pressure of fluid in a first single-acting hydraulic cylinder. Pressurization of the cylinder moves the carriage in the opposite direction away from the grinding wheel. The grinding wheel is spring-biased toward an active, grinding position and moved away from such position by a second single-acting hydraulic cylinder. The first and second cylinders are sized and the respective springs of the carriage and grinder selected such that upon pressurization of the common hydraulic circuit for such cylinders, the carriage retracts the cutter tooth away from the grinding wheel before the grinding wheel retracts from the grinding position.

  • Patent number: 4404877
Abstract: A power-driven screwdriver for use with a motor-driven tool for driving a strip of screws one at a time into a workpiece and having an outer guide frame in which a slide block and a slide plate are slidably mounted. A screw indexing lever is angularly movably mounted on the slide block and has a pin received in a first cam slot having an oblique portion and defined in the outer guide frame and a second cam slot defined in the slide plate. When the motor-driven tool is pushed toward a workpiece, the slide block and the slide plate are slid into the outer guide frame, allowing a screwdriver bit to engage and drive a screw into the workpiece. After the screw has been driven, the motor-driven tool is retracted away from the workpiece, whereupon the slide block and the slide plate are forced to slide out of the outer guide frame under the bias of a spring around the screwdriver bit.

  • Patent number: 4395928
Abstract: A hand tool for stripping insulation from the end of a wire includes a pair of gripping jaws for holding the wire and a pair of cutting and stripping jaws for removing the insulation. An actuating member is pivotally connected at one end to the cutting and stripping jaws and at the other end to a pivotally mounted driving member. When a pair of handles on the tools are pressed toward one another, the two pair of jaws engage the wire, one pair holding the wire while the other pair cuts and strips the insulation. During this operation, the actuating member displaces the cutting and stripping jaws away from the gripping jaws and pulls the cut insulation at least partly off the end of the wire.

  • Patent number: 4389912
Abstract: A pair of tweezers specifically designed for removing DIP (dual in-line pins) components or other electronic components from a circuit board. To this end, the tweezers include a pair of legs secured together at the top portion and having a sharply inwardly bent end portion formed with claws for engaging the pins of a DIP component. Near the curved ends of the tweezers there may be provided a bumper for each leg extending through an opening in the leg. The bumper serves the purpose to hold the DIP component between the curved end portions and the bumpers. A sliding clamp is provided which is of general U-shape and provided with an elongated slit. The clamp may be secured by a knurled nut extending through an opening in the legs of the tweezers. Hence, the clamp may be slid downwardly of the legs to squeeze them together. Thus, the opening between the jaws may be adjusted to the size of the component to be removed.
