  • Patent number: 6962371
Abstract: An assembly for mailing an article requiring delivery by a special service and a method for mailing same are provided. The assembly includes a return postcard and anchor portions removably attached to the return postcard. The anchor portions include adhesive that allows the anchor portions to be attached to a mailpiece. The return postcard includes a special services designator section indicative of the special service required for delivery of the mailpiece. The return postcard is integrally formed, but removably attached, such that the return postcard remains attached to the envelope until received by the addressee, at which time the return postcard may be removed. The assembly is designed to incorporate a form into the return postcard to simplify preparation of the mailpiece for delivery by the special service. Alternatively, the postcard may contain a machine readable code that aids in the delivery and tracking of the mailpiece.

  • Patent number: 6953311
Abstract: A tool holding and working piece-clamping assembly has a stand, a driving device, a threaded rod, a rail assembly, a brake post, a working piece-clamping device and a tool holding device. The working piece-clamping device has an upper clamping device slidably connected to the rail assembly and a lower clamping device corresponding to the upper clamping. The working piece-clamping device has a brake electrically connected to a contact switch and slidably mounted on a brake post. The tool holding device is slidably connected to the rail assembly and has a connecting base screwed with the threaded rod. With such an arrangement, only one threaded rod with a driving device is needed to actuate the tool holding device and the working piece-clamping device to operate. Consequently, the consumption of power can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 6908248
Abstract: A page lifting device for use with loose-leaf binders containing binding rings. The leaves of the page lifter are formed from one or more stiff sheets of material or loops of stiff wire, rotatably affixed at their inner edges to an attaching member that is fixedly attached to the binding ring-base. The pivot axis between the leaves and attachment member is located close to the center of the substantially circular binder rings which, when the binder is closed, causes the page lifter leaves to envelope and lift the loose-leaf pages away from the binder spine. The page lifter leaves can contain slots or holes therein, which allow them to fit over the binder rings on closing.

  • Patent number: 6827577
Abstract: The night vision goggle training apparatus simulates the size, feel and handling of actual night vision goggles. A narrow band-width green filter is positioned over the viewing port, to simulate nighttime viewing conditions. The image intensification system used in night vision goggles is eliminated; limiting use of the training goggles to daytime use. The out of balance weight of the night vision goggles is identical to actual night vision goggles. Brightness control is simulated by attenuation filters that fit over the objective lens. The blooming effect of lights is simulated with a star filter. A thin, fine mesh screen is used to simulate reduced acuity, scintillation and ghosting effects during low light or rapid motion, which occur during use of actual night vision goggles. The objective focus and diopter adjustment are identical to night vision goggles.

  • Patent number: 6589096
Abstract: An apparatus and method for creating and destroying toys having a solid exterior and liquid interior are disclosed. The apparatus and method entail the creation of an impression within a supply of modeling compound using a form having a desired shape. The impression formed within the modeling compound is then filled with a curable liquid which cures upon contact with the modeling compound. The modeling compound remains in contact with the curable liquid for a sufficient length of time to cure an exterior skin while leaving the interior in a liquid state. The liquid interior is then drained and refilled with a non-curable liquid so as to provide a toy having life-like features. The kit further provides a crushing mechanism having a movable plunger adapted to physically crush the toy by rupturing the exterior skin and splattering the liquid interior against a dome of the crushing mechanism.

  • Patent number: 5833523
Abstract: A variable volume coolant system for delivering liquid coolant to the interface defined between a machine tool and a workpiece to be abraded to a desired size and curvature. A first conduit path is defined between a source of liquid coolant and a nozzle for delivering coolant to the gap defined between the machine tool and the workpiece; a second conduit path is also defined between the source of liquid coolant and the nozzle. A first valve, such as a solenoid valve, controls the flow of liquid coolant through the first conduit path, while a second valve performs the same function for the second conduit path. The first conduit path possesses a greater volume than the second conduit path. By selectively adjusting the first and second valves, a high volume flow of liquid coolant is maintained over most of the machining operation, while a greatly diminished, low volume flow is established toward the completion of the machining operation.

  • Patent number: 5743785
Abstract: The method and associated apparatus of the present invention polishes the front face of a ferrule with first and second slurries such that an end portion of each optical fiber which extends through and is held by the ferrule protrudes beyond the preferentially etched front face of the ferrule by a preselected length. In order to preferentially etch the front face of ferrule as desired, the front face of the ferrule is polished with a first slurry having a plurality of suspended particulates of a first predetermined size on average which initiates the preferential etch of the ferrule relative to the optical fibers. Thereafter, the front face of the ferrule is polished with a second slurry having a plurality of suspended particles of a second predetermined size on average.
