  • Patent number: 8745444
Abstract: Systems and methods for item-level restoration from and verification of an image level backup without fully extracting it. The method receives backup parameters and selection of an image level backup to restore or verify and initializes virtual storage. The method attaches the virtual storage to a hypervisor to launch a virtual machine (VM) to test and restore data objects. The method stores VM virtual disk data changes resulting from restoration and verification in a changes storage. The method optionally reconfigures VMs to use an isolated network. The method optionally uses a routing appliance to provide access to VMs running in the isolated network from a production network. The method determines if the VM operating system (OS) is able to start using restored copies of selected data objects and tests applications associated with selected data objects. The method displays restoration and test results in an interface and automatically delivers the results.

  • Patent number: 8738972
Abstract: A method of root cause analysis in a virtual machine environment includes receiving a plurality of events from a system monitoring the virtualized environment. The events may include alarms or alerts, such as alarms or alerts associated with a resource reaching or exceeding a threshold. The capacity manager consumes these events and performs event correlation to produce a set of correlated events. The capacity manager performs a root cause analysis on the set of correlated events to identify one or more root causes. The capacity manager further performs an impact analysis to determine how the root cause impacts the system, such as other virtual machines, hosts or resource in the virtual environment. Based on the root cause and impact analysis, the capacity manager makes one or more recommendations to address issues with or to improve the operations and/or performance of the virtualized environment.

  • Patent number: 8738969
Abstract: An embodiment of the invention provides a memory on a semiconductor device that has a plurality of memory areas where each memory area has a plurality of consecutive bits. Further, the semiconductor device includes a tag memory having a plurality of trace tags, each trace tag including at least one bit. Each memory area of the memory is mapped to a trace tag that indicates whether the respective memory area is selected for tracing or not. Each memory area and the assigned trace tag are read out and address of the memory area is forwarded to a trace module when an assigned trace tag indicates that the memory area is selected for tracing. When the assigned trace tag indicates that the memory area is not selected for tracing, data and address is discarded.

  • Patent number: 8726098
Abstract: The operator terminal 150 receives input in relation to a setting status check item being a setting item desired to be checked in the diagnostic code generation terminal, and generates a status check code, so that the status check code indicates the setting status check item received in the input. Then, the diagnostic code generation terminal 10 acquires the setting status of the diagnostic code generation terminal 10 in response to receiving the input of the status check code, the setting status corresponding to the setting status check item, and generates a diagnostic code indicating the setting status based on the acquired setting status. Then, the setting status of the diagnostic code generation terminal 10 is reproduced by inputting the diagnostic code to an operator terminal 150.

  • Patent number: 8719644
Abstract: A method and a system for diagnosing an apparatus are provided. The method for diagnosing the apparatus includes: determining whether the apparatus is to enter a diagnostic mode after a system is started; performing a diagnosis of the apparatus by executing a diagnostic proge apparatus is determined to enter the diagnostic mode; and performing a normal BIOS or EFI startup when the apparatus is determined not to enter the diagnostic mode. An accurate diagnosis of the apparatus can be realized by firstly determining whether the apparatus is to enter a diagnostic mode after a system is started, if yes, then the apparatus entering the diagnostic mode, and if not, then the apparatus performing a normal BIOS or EFI startup. Moreover, in case of a memory or PCI/PCIE bus error in the apparatus, since the diagnostic program is loaded prior to the BIOS startup, the fault can be diagnosed.

  • Patent number: 8700968
Abstract: Methods and apparatus utilize hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) transmissions and retransmissions that are usable on multiple carriers, i.e. joint HARQ processes. For example, a downlink (DL) shared channel transmission of a joint HARQ process is received on one of the carriers. A first part of an identity of the joint HARQ process is determined by using HARQ process identity data received on a shared control channel. A second part of the joint HARQ process identity is determined using additional information. The joint HARQ process identity is then determined by combining the first part and the second part. A WTRU is provided that is configured to receive the DL shared channel and to make the aforementioned determinations. A variety of other methods and apparatus configurations are disclosed for utilizing joint HARQ processes, in particular in the context of DC-HSDPA.
