  • Patent number: 4798301
Abstract: A cap of a type having a top disk with depending outer and inner skirts between which the neck of the jar fits is disclosed. The inner surface of the outer skirt and the outside of the neck have cooperating upper and lower locking beads holding the cap in place until the lower portion of the skirt is torn off by tearing along a horizontal score line and thereby removing the lower cap locking bead. The skirt is torn by pulling a tab horizontally. The tab in one form of the invention is defined by cutouts in the lower portion of the outer skirt and is offset outwardly for easy engagement by the finger of the user. In a modification there are two tabs extending in opposite directions, either of which may be pulled to tear off the lower skirt and both tabs being joined by narrow links to a central release lug. The latter is bent upward, thereby breaking the links. The lug has an additional utility in prying off the cap from the neck of the jar after the lower skirt is torn off.

  • Patent number: 4798303
Abstract: A continuous thread closure assembly is described which achieves a required degree of full thread engagement between cap and container with a lessened amount of turning of the cap needed to achieve such engagement. The assembly comprises a container having a sloping, continuous thread finish thereon having a progressively increasing thread diameter in a direction away from the outlet of the container at a conical angle of at least about 40.degree.. A screw cap is provided having a compressible liner, if desired, on the inside of its top and a counterpart thread configuration to that of the container on the inside skirt portion thereof.

  • Patent number: 4796771
Abstract: A security closure lid for containers having a flange-like mouth region which is intended to be gripped by a lid is taught. Briefly stated, a security closure lid has connected thereto a security closure band tearably connected with the lid. The lid is adapted to be pushed onto the flange-like mouth region of the container after filling of the container. The closure band is beveled so that it may not be removed from the flange-like mouth region without being separated or torn from the lid. This therefore reveals any damage, tampering or the like by a quick visual examination thereof.

  • Patent number: 4795045
Abstract: The present invention provides a closure for a container, preferably a plastic aerosol container on which there is provided a specially designed neck. A metal cup having vent slots is fittable on the container top and neck. The cup has formed at its periphery an inwardly curled tuck and a rounded top portion which fits over a rounded annular shoulder on the neck. The radius of the rounded annular shoulder of the neck is larger than the radius of the rounded top portion of the cup. The neck further includes a tuck support member having a horizontal ledge. A tuck pocket is formed between the annular shoulder and the tuck support member to accomodate the tuck in the cup. Sealing of the cup to the container occurs at the annular shoulder of the neck by pressure of a pressure ring in concert with a pilot of a closure die on the cup top portion.

  • Patent number: 4795043
Abstract: A cap for covering a container, the opening of which is initially blocked by a sealed lid. The bottom of the cap is provided with a deformable part provided with a perforation means. A deformable part initially occupies a position in which the perforation means is maintained at a distance from the lid. At the moment of first use of the contianer, the deformable part is lowered to a position in which the perforation means penetrates the plane of the lid. The configuration can be used with screw-on caps, particularly with caps having tamperproof bands, or with hinged caps.

  • Patent number: 4793498
Abstract: A cap for a container closure is adapted to receive an insert by engagement of a projection on the insert in a recess in the cap. The cap is recessed to receive the insert in a region near the open mouth of the cap. The cap is outwardly flared in this region so that no significant reduction in wall thickness of the cap occurs in this region, the outer form of the flaring comprising a smooth curve which, in the direction towards the mouth opening of the cap comprises a portion which has an outwardly presented concave curve swelling smoothly from the upper wall of the cap and merging by a convex curve into the lower, larger diameter wall of the cap.

  • Patent number: 4793500
Abstract: A tamper indicator includes a first indicator element coupled to a first cylindrical element, a second indicator element positioned within a second cylindrical element and displaceable between a first position spaced apart from the first indicator element and a second position contacting the first indicator element. The first indicator element changes visual states when it contacts the second indicator element. A biasing device biases the first indicator element toward the second indicator element. A locking system maintains the first and second indicator elements in a locked, spaced apart configuration while the first and second cylindrical elements remain in a first location. The locking device enables relative movement to occur between the first and second indicator elements after the first and second cylindrical elements have been displaced from the first position into a second position.

  • Patent number: 4793509
Abstract: A bulk material container with a vent. Disposed in the vent is a filter membrane. Under normal conditions, fluid in the container breathes with the air under atmospheric pressure through the filter membrane. In one embodiment, when the bulk material in the container is under excessive fluid pressure, the filter membrane is fractured for fluid under excessive pressure to vent rapidly to atmosphere. In another embodiment, when there is an excessive vacuum in the container, air under atmospheric pressure fractures the filter member for air atmospheric pressure to instantaneously enter the container through the fractured membrane to reduce the vacuum within the container.

  • Patent number: 4793506
Abstract: In combination, a container and a linerless cap and a method of forming the cap. The cap includes plastic and has a sealing surface which is softer than contiguous plastic portions as a result of its method of forming which includes stretching. In the method the cap is molded from plastic and includes a top wall, an outer depending skirt and an internal depending substantially annular wall having an upper end integral with and depending from the top wall and a lower free end. Thereafter the free end is engaged by a forming tool to progressively turn the free end away from the internal wall to create a stretched intermediate portion for sealing which is softer than its contiguous portions.

  • Patent number: 4793501
Abstract: A watertight hinge closure for a dispensing container. The closure has a lid with a solid unitary one-piece hinge which snaps shut onto a cap body integrally formed therewith. The lid and hinge are formed to leave a minimal space between the lid, the hinge and the cap body when the closure is in the shut position. The top of the cap body has a raised portion which is angled toward the snap fit portion of the lid opposite the hinge to prevent seepage and to avoid stagnant areas which could cause contamination.
