  • Patent number: 4756437
Abstract: Caps consisting of a closure panel and a cylindrical side wall that are relatively permeable to water vapor and/or oxygen are rendered less permeable by moulding into and permanently bonding to the inner face or, more usually, the outer face of the closure panel a relatively vapor impermeable lamina. The cap is made by a process in which a lamina is inserted into the cavity of a mould, usually an injection mould, and then the material for forming the cap is introduced into and mould in the cavity.

  • Patent number: 4754889
Abstract: A cap adapted to cooperate with a container to seal and unseal the container. The cap comprises a circle-shaped knife carried by an inner surface of the cap and a lid adhesively secured to a portion of the inner surface of the cap. The container is sealed by positioning the cap over an opening of the container, which opening is defined by a container edge, and then securing the lid of the cap to the container edge by induction or conduction. The container is unsealed by exerting pressure on the cap whereby the knife cuts through the lid thereby cutting a circular portion out of the lid and unsealing the container. The circular portion cut out the lid remains adhesively secured to the cap.

  • Patent number: 4753358
Abstract: A vial cap coupling device for flexibly coupling together a vial and its sealing cap includes a cylindrical retainer having an inner surface which forms a cavity for snugly receiving the sealing cap and firmly engaging an outer surface of the cap, a slide ring which has an inner diameter which is about the same as the outside diameter of the cylindrical portion of the vial so that the slide ring can be slid up the cylindrical portion of the vial to the rim at the upper end of the cylindrical portion, and a hinge which at its ends is integrally connected to the retainer and slide ring. The vial cap coupling device retainer further includes a small resilient flange which has an upward shelf which retains within the cavity a sealing cap by abutting against a bottom of the cap.

  • Patent number: 4749096
Abstract: A capsule 11 for enclosing a neck portion of a container 17 equipped with a bung, cork, screw-cap or other closure 18 is formed from a crimp-shaped capsule blank. The blank has a top 12 and a depending skirt 13 and is made by impact-extruding a strip of aluminum. The skirt is compressed inwardly into close contact with the neck portion of the container and the exposed laterally-facing surfaces of the closure 18. The skirt of the blank may have an increasing diameter in a direction away from the top and may have formed thereon prior to application of the blank to the container circumferentially-extending lines of weakness 14 and a tear-tab for facilitating removal of the capsule.

  • Patent number: 4747498
Abstract: A threaded safety dispensing closure and container package in which the initial threading on of the closure to the product filled container affixes the closure to the container so that it cannot be removed, requiring dispensing through the dispensing orifice in the closure top and inhibiting refilling of the container. The container neck terminates in an annular end wall having a plurality of circumferentially spaced ratchet teeth which coact with the top of the closure cap allowing threading on but locking the cap to the container against unthreading removal. Tamper indication can be provided by an integrally molded insert across the dispensing orifice which is removed by a pull tab.

  • Patent number: 4747503
Abstract: A means of packaging drugs and the like is described comprising a container, having two compartments, one of which is to leave evidence that the container has been previously opened by attaching a plunger to link up with the lower compartment by way of a tip being inserted into the lower compartment and when the cap is removed, said tip will be separated for the plunger releasing a dye along with the tip to remain in said lower compartment, making it necessary to destroy the lower compartment to remove said tip or dye that said drugs and the like can be stored in the upper compartment, making a sure and visible way for packaging, making it known to the consumer should the container have been previously opened.

  • Patent number: 4747497
Abstract: A tamper detector cap which is characterized by an internally-threaded inner cap adapted to thread on the neck of a bottle, jar or other container and provided with a flexible diaphragm and spaced wall grooves located in the outer circumference thereof. An outer cap fitted with a transport window and internal, spaced retainer thread segments for threadibly engaging the wall grooves in the inner cap, is also provided. When the inner cap is threadibly attached to the neck of the container and a vacuum is created in the container, the diaphragm is depressed inwardly and the outer cap is threadibly secured to the inner cap by means of the retainer thread segments and cooperating wall grooves, such that the outer cap is sealed on the inner cap. Application of a counterclockwise torque to the outer cap first loosens the outer cap on the inner cap and then loosens the inner cap and breaks the seal between the inner cap and the threaded neck of the container, causing the diaphragm to assume a neutral position.

  • Patent number: 4746032
Abstract: A beverage can lid having a safety rim which exposes no sharp surfaces and which forms a cavity on the inner surface thereof. An upper slide piece which covers and which grips the safety rim. The upper slide piece has a push knob on its upper face. A lower slide piece which has an insert projecting upwards from its upper surface. The lower slide piece and upper slide piece are plastically welded together at the apex of the insert, which fits in the cavity of the push knob of the upper slide piece. The lower slide piece fits in the rim and contacts the inside of the lip of the rim so as to seal the can until the user pushes on the push knob. The upper and lower slide pieces are flexible so that the beverage can can be resealed if slid back into original position.

  • Patent number: 4744477
Abstract: A combined bottle cap and straw structure for a liquid containing bottle is disclosed. The cap includes a liner secured thereto which extends across a central region of the cap. In a first embodiment, a hollow cylindrical straw is formed integrally with the liner. A frangible region is formed at the junction between the liner and the straw. A relatively small aperture is formed through the frangible region to vent the interior of the straw to the interior of the bottle. When the cap is removed from the bottle, the straw remains attached to the cap for easy grasping. The straw can flexed relative to the cap to separate it from the liner along the frangible region. In a second embodiment, the liner is provided with an integral protrusion which extends into the open end of the bottle. The straw is formed separately from the liner, but is sized to be frictionally retained on the protrusion. The protrusion includes a relatively small groove to vent the interior of the straw portion to the interior of the bottle.

  • Patent number: 4744481
Abstract: A sealing closure for a container, such as bottles, jars and the like includes a threaded cap and a single-piece gasket of resilient material. The interior surface of the top of the threaded cap is provided with a plurality of radially extending ribs in the vicinity of its periphery. The peripheral portion of the single-piece gasket contacts the ribs, the cap being positionable over the rim of the neck of a container and in threaded engagement therewith to seal the container. The gasket may be of frusto-conical shape with a longitudinal sleeve thereon, the sleeve fitting over a central stud which is integral with the cap. The stud may be so dimensioned and shaped in cross-section, and the sleeve similarly shaped and dimensioned to prevent relative turning of the cap and gasket with respect to one another during opening and closing of a container with the closure.
