  • Patent number: 5463795
Abstract: A hinge includes a first hinge leaf with two axially spaced knuckles and a second hinge leaf having a knuckle extending between and axially aligned with the knuckles of the first hinge leaf. The knuckles of the two hinge leaves have bores extending therethrough and that of the second leaf has a counterbore at each end thereof. Seated in the bore at each end of the second leaf knuckle is a bearing assembly including a collar portion seated in the counterbore. The bushing has an axial bore extending therethrough and a counterbore at its outer end. A metallic thrust bearing has a generally axially extending body portion disposed in the counterbore of the bushing, and a peripheral collar at the outer end overlies the outer end of the bushing and provides a thrust bearing surface for the adjacent knuckle of the first hinge leaf. In one embodiment, the bushing bore has channels to allow flow of electroplating solution if the hinge is electroplated after assembly.

  • Patent number: 5454262
Abstract: In a process for operating a press unit comprising a press, more particularly a forging press, having a hydraulic driving and control system that causes the working stroke movement of the press to follow a substantially sinusoidal course, and at least one integrated forging manipulator, synchronization of the working stroke of the press and the stroke of the tong arm of the manipulator is effected by a driving and control system of the forging manipulator by which a stroke movement of the tong arm of the forging manipulator adjusted to match the working stroke of the press and having the same frequency as that of the working stroke movement of the press, but with a smaller amplitude, is produced. For raising and lowering of the tong arm at least one continuously variable, reversible-flow pump is associated with the forging manipulator.

  • Patent number: 5452501
Abstract: A hinge and check assembly for checking the door of a motor vehicle when in the open position. The assembly provides a base having check profiles formed therein to establish predetermined check positions. The assembly also provides a strap that provides a spring biased contact surface for engaging the check profiles formed in the base. The strap is pivotally connected to the base through a pivot pin that defines a hinge axis, and the strap is allowed to rotate with the door of the vehicle about the hinge axis. Upon rotation of the strap, the contact surface follows the check profile and establishes a predetermined check position. The check profiles are perpendicular to the pivot pin, and the contact surfaces are perpendicular to the check profiles so that the check force applied to the pivot pin is in an axial direction. By having the check force applied axially to the pivot pin, deformation and wear to the pivot pin and its associated bushing does not occur.

  • Patent number: 5444895
Abstract: A hinge includes a stationary fitting base plate part, which fitting base plate part is connected with a pivotal fitting part. The hinge is able to be pivoted for lateral adjustment of a door or flap carried by the pivotal fitting part, in relation to the base plate part by a setting device in the pivot plane of the hinge. A stop member which bears on a hinge arm and is acted upon by a resilient element, is, via a cam, able to be pivoted with the pivotal fitting part and urges the pivotal fitting part in the closing part of its range of movement towards its closed position whereas outside such closing range it is rendered ineffective by the cam.

  • Patent number: 5432977
Abstract: The door closer is of the kind which acts, for example between a door hinge stile and a hinge jamb and has a body for mounting usually in the stile, from which body a spring-biased tension member extends correspondingly for anchoring to an anchoring point (for example in the jamb), wherein a hydraulic cylinder-piston damper is interposed between the tension member and a biasing spring therefor, the damper being adapted to allow fluid in use to flow restrictedly past the piston when the tension member (12) is moved in door-closing and door-opening directions; characterized in that the cylinder of the hydraulic cylinder piston damper is formed of a plastics material, and the cylinder is resiliently expansible in response to an increase in pressure therein such that the clearance between the piston and cylinder is increased to permit increased flow of fluid around the piston.

  • Patent number: 5432979
Abstract: A disposable mask for door hinge and butt plate hardware designed to be slided onto the hardware instead of being frictionally clipped onto it. The mask includes a flattened plate attached to a cylindrical body and is distinguished by a longitudinal crease defining a weakened line along the cylindrical body and a tab either on said plate or on said cylinder. After use, a screwdriver or human finger may be used to apply pressure to the tab causing the mask to break along the weakened line so that it falls harmlessly from the door hardware in two disposable pieces.

  • Patent number: 5428866
Abstract: A mounting plate for detachably fixing a heavy duty, normally permanently attached, swivelling base plate caster roller unit to an object to be transported is cut from an extrusion shaped to form a flat bottom plate with raised parallel sides each including an overhanging flange such that parallel grooves are provided into which the caster's swiveling base plate can slide. Attachment of the mounting plate to the transportable object utilizes at least two mounting pins (screws, bolts or rivets), at least one of which protrudes from the mounting plate inside surface to form a stop to prevent the swivel plate from sliding all the way through. A spring loaded button, which becomes flush with the mounting plate when depressed, allows the caster swivel plate to enter the cavity provided by the parallel extruded grooves and the protruding mounting stop.

  • Patent number: 5426821
Abstract: A shower curtain rod has curved ends branching from the straight body. A curtain hung therefrom is caused to follow a curved contour of a bathtub below. Tracks are provided on the inner and outer sides of the curtain rod so that inner and outer curtains may be suspended therefrom. The inner curtain follows the bathtub contour, and the outer curtain extends to both of two parallel walls defining the shower stall. Curtain fasteners are slidably held within the tracks. The fasteners are insertable when turned ninety degrees from their normal, vertical orientation, then turned so that fastener hooks face downwardly. The fasteners are thus positively retained by the curtain rod, while allowing the curtains to be opened and closed independently from one another.
