Abstract: A caster for supporting an object on wheels is provided with a brake that is operable between engageable and disengageable positions. The brake alternatively restricts and permits rotation of the caster wheel relative to a moveable swivel element. The brake includes a brake pad operated by movement of an operating member located externally on the operating components of the caster. A detent system provides detents for alternatively holding the brake in both the engaged and disengaged positions.

Abstract: A hinge for use with a picture frame and a set-up base, includes first and second hinge leaves, each hinge leaf having claws, the claws of the first hinge leaf for fastening the first hinge leaf to a picture frame and the claws of the second hinge leaf for fastening the second hinge leaf to a set-up base. A hinge joint is disposed at first ends of the hinge leaves, configured of knuckles through which a hinge wire passes for connecting the first and second hinge leaves to one another. A connecting web is movably articulated to the first hinge leaf at an end edge of the first hinge leaf opposite the hinge joint. When the hinge is in an opened position, the connecting web is arranged at an angle to the first hinge leaf and is supported on the second hinge leaf. When the hinge is in a closed position, the connecting web is pivoted into a position essentially parallel to the first hinge leaf.

Abstract: A telescopic handle has a first tube with two slots and a second tube with two holes. A locking element has a first section attached in the first tube and a larger second section sited in the second tube. The second section of the locking element has two holes. A passage with a first section and a larger second section is formed through the locking element. A plunger has a first section insertable through the first section of the passage, a second section with a cross-sectional profile marginally smaller than that of the second section of the passage and a third section with a cross-sectional profile smaller than that of the second section of the passage. A spring is compressed between the second section of the plunger and a nut attached to the third section of the plunger. A pulling element links a bolt, insertable through the slots, to the first section of the plunger. Two balls are sited in the holes formed through the locking element.

Abstract: A vibration absorbing handle for a power tool includes a monolithic, elastomeric outer gripping member having affixed and extending therein an elongated, hollow support member and a first mounting member for connection to a tool housing, the outer gripping member forming an annular flange between the hollow support member and the mounting member, the flange and outer gripping member providing flexibility and vibration absorption.

Abstract: A hinge for a vehicle includes a stationary sheet metal hinge base adapted to attach to a vehicle, a sheet metal panel bracket adapted to attach to a vehicle panel, and a sheet metal hinge member operably connecting the hinge base and panel bracket. The panel bracket is slideably attached to the hinge member and movable between an extended position and a retracted final assembly position. The hinge member is also pivotally connected to the hinge base and rotatably movable through an arcuate path including a panel open position, a panel closed position and at least one intermediate position therebetween. The hinge member, when the panel bracket is in the extended position, is movable to the intermediate position in the arcuate path so that the panel is spaced from the vehicle to facilitate painting of the panel and the vehicle. The hinge member, when the panel bracket is in the retracted position, is movable to locate the panel relative to the vehicle in a final assembly position.

Abstract: A programming system is provided for passing or blocking the movement of operable room divider panels along overhead tracks supporting the panels. The programming system employs separate characterized gates which pass or deny passage to separate panels which are moved along the track. By providing gates at intersections panels from one track leg can be passed or blocked to one or more intersecting legs as desired. The gates may be in the form of keyed or characterized inserts at the intersections of tracks or channels supporting the panels. The inserts may have different keyed or characterized openings which receive mating guide pins on selected panels which permit passage past the gate and block panels having male guide pins with a different key or characterized configuration.

Abstract: A lid operating mechanism for opening and closing a lid body from left and right sides of a box body includes left and right side hinge pins provided along left and right side edges of the lid body for movement between a projecting position and a retract position; left and right side operation buttons provided within the lid body for sliding; and left and right side cable means for directly connecting the left and right side hinge pins and the left and right side operating buttons, respectively, and having a first section extending in the widthwise direction and a second section extending in a lengthwise direction of the lid body so that when the left or right side operating button is depressed into the opening position, the left or right side cable means pulls the left or right side hinge pins into the retracted position to thereby allow opening of the lid body about the right or left side hinge pins.

Abstract: A hinge strip forms a hinge arrangement comprising a plurality of edge related segments, oriented between two mutually adjacent elements, normally in the form of two flat panels, the strip having at least one surface coated with a respective adhesive layer for adhesion to at least one of an edge region and an edge surface of a respective element, the hinge strip being divided along its edge surface into segments by exposing a number of mutually spaced segments separating weakenings, which are arranged to extend transversely to a longitudinally extending center line or a hinge rotation line, each segment having a nonadhesive surface region which is positioned between two adjacent adhesive surface regions, a non-adhesive surface region of adjacent edge segments being located on alternating sides of a hinge line.

Abstract: A gas kettle-type barbecue grill is provided for use on boats or other environments. The grill includes a bowl-shaped base and bowl-shaped cover which are pivotally connected by hinges on opposite sides of the grill. Each hinge includes a pair of hinge arms having four pivot connections between the base and the cover. A burner is mounted in the bottom of the base, which horizontally receives a fuel inlet line. A flavor plate is mounted on top of the burner so as to evenly distribute heat within the base of the grill. The grill grate is secured within the base by mounting brackets. The grill is mounted to a post connected to a railing on the boat or to legs, and is rotable about a vertical axis so as to block the wind from the grate, regardless of the wind direction.

Abstract: A flush mount door pull is disclosed which is secured within the face of a door in such a manner that there are no exposed fasteners. The disclosed flush mount door pull is further mounted in a manner which resists premature loosening of the fasteners and which substantially eliminates the possibility that the threads of the fasteners or of the threaded bores associated with the door pull will strip. In a further aspect of the invention, the disclosed flush door pull handle can be easily adapted to match the color and texture of the door panel within which it is mounted.

Abstract: A handle can be attached on a cooking pot, frying pan or the like frictionally and possibly also form-lockingly without a separate connecting element, wherein the fastened handle can be released from the rigid anchoring element on the cooking utensil. Through suitable openings in the handle attachment, a separating tool can be moved between two surfaces of the two fastening pieces which surfaces face one another and, with the help of the separating tool, a jerk-free release of the handle takes place. A conventional screwdriver can be used as the separating tool.

Abstract: A main member of soft plastic material and a second member of hard plastic material, chemically compatible and thermally bonded together. The second member is partially slitted having a ring element embedded in the main member, and segments distributed circumferentially around the ring. The segments can be swung radially to facilitate insertion into a hole, and they spring outwardly to grip the panel in which the grommet is mounted. In one form the second member is entirely slitted, and thereby made up of separate segments or fingers.

Abstract: A bottom fixture for overhead garage doors which can be selectively installed on the lower portion of either the right hand or left hand side of the garage door. The bottom fixture is an L-shaped bracket having a wide flat side and a narrow flat side at right angles to one another. A first pair of parallel laterally spaced ear members and a second pair of parallel laterally spaced ear members extend perpendicular to the same surface of the wide side and each pair is spaced a predetermined distance from the top and bottom ends of the bracket and each pair of laterally spaced ears has axially aligned apertures on a horizontal axis to receive the shaft of a roller device having a roller rotatably mounted at its outer end. A first and second sheave extend perpendicular to the same surface of the narrow side on a horizontal axis and are spaced from the top and bottom ends a predetermined distance and are configured to receive a cable.

Abstract: An improvement in a configured hinge having a hinge cup for mounting on a surface provided with a hinge cup bore hole comprising a spacer having a pre-selected thickness and a periphery substantially conforming to the configuration of the hinge cup for mounting beneath the hinge cup flange near the bore hole to compensate for the less than standard depth of the bore hole.

Abstract: A retracting caster assembly is provided with a frame, a lever, a spring, a roller, and a manual retracting bolt. The lever is pivotally connected to the frame. The roller is connected to a first end of the lever. A spring loading member connects the spring to a second end of the lever. The spring biases the lever at a first position with the roller extended from the frame. The manual retracting bolt is adapted to manually move the lever to a second position with the roller retracted. The lever is suitably sized, shaped, and connected to the frame to hold the frame at a minimum predetermined distance from the ground until a predetermined weight is applied to the frame, at which point the linkage and lever arrangement decreases the mechanical advantage of the spring as the roller retracts, thereby minimizing the force required to retract the roller.

Abstract: A two position floor lock and caster assembly for a bed or the like includes a bracket adapted to be secured to the bed frame. A pair of links have ends pivoted to the bracket and free ends. A socket is pivotally joined to the free ends of the links so that rotation of the links raises and lowers the socket. A caster may be secured to the bracket or attached to the socket. A foot or floor lock may be secured to the bracket or the socket. A crank assembly is operatively connected to the links for raising and lowering the socket to move the floor lock or caster into operative engagement with the floor.

Abstract: A releasable fifth wheel for use with a skateboard having an upwardly sloped tail portion cantilevered out beyond the rear race which includes a caster with swivel connected yoke and stem with the yoke supporting a plastic wheel. The stem includes a manually operable spring biased rod that has an indentation between its ends and co-acts with a ball detent. A pair of threadably engageable shells with flanges at their outer ends are adapted to be received in an opening in the skateboard tail. One of the shells has an internal groove which cooperatively locks the ball detent or releases the ball when the rod is moved longitudinally or rotationally.

Abstract: New tooling technology for deep drawing one-piece can bodies from flat-rolled sheet metal can stock (58) which is precoated on both surfaces with an organic coating and draw lubricant. A draw die curved-surface cavity (122) entrance is formed using a radius of curvature (132) with a practical maximum of about five times nominal sheet metal thickness gage; and, preferably is formed about multiple radii of curvature (R.sub.L, R.sub.S, R.sub.L) to increase surface area (140) without increasing projection on the clamping plane.
