  • Patent number: 5274882
Abstract: In a hinge mechanism, a first hinge portion and a second hinge portion are urged toward predetermined angular relationships relative to one another. A force, directed outwardly from the first hinge portion, is applied by an axle pivotally connecting the first and second hinge portions and having a V-shaped tip against a V-shaped groove in the second hinge portion, urging the V-shaped tip and groove to engage. In addition to being urged toward predetermined angular relationships, the first and second hinge portions are kept in predetermined angular relationships until a torsional force is applied to one of the hinge portions to overcome forces keeping the V-shaped tip and groove in engagement.

  • Patent number: 5271293
Abstract: A knob assembly is disclosed for a control unit of a medical apparatus with a front panel. In order to transfer a turning setting movement through the front panel, a feed-through sleeve is rotatably arranged in the front panel and a knob core is movably arranged in the feed-through sleeve. On the control side of the front panel the feed-through sleeve and the knob core are enclosed by a manipulable element which, through application of pressure, can axially move the knob core in the feed-through sleeve. The knob core on the back side of the front panel moves a resilient locking washer from a locking position to an unlocked position so that turning of the manipulable element also will turn the feed-through sleeve. To improve the sealing at the feed-through location, the front panel is provided with a protection plate which is beaded outwards and surrounding the feed-through sleeve, with the manipulable element tightly enclosing the beaded protection.

  • Patent number: 5269046
Abstract: The hinge includes a plurality of pintle members that are spaced from each other along the axis of the hinge and that are of generally semi-circular shape and have an arcuate outer surface on a first side thereof and a generally flat surface upon the opposite side thereof. The flat surfaces of some of the pintle members face in a direction opposite to that of the flat surfaces of other of the pintle members. The hinge further includes generally channel shaped knuckle members, some of which face in a first direction and other of which face in an opposite direction. Assembly of the hinge is effected by movement of the barrel and pintle members laterally into engagement with each other while maintaining confronting surfaces thereon in substantially coplanar relationship with each other.

  • Patent number: 5269045
Abstract: An ergonomically adjustable handle for attachment to the body of a tool has a handle member with first and second ends with an axis between. Provision for attaching the first end of the handle to the tool body allows rotation of the handle about the axis through the attachment point. A pivot point is located on the axis of the handle member near the first end and permits deflection of the second end of the handle with respect to the first end. In addition, an outer layer portion of the handle member near the second end may be rotated about its axis to provide a comfortable position for the ellipsoidal cross section of the handle. Finally, clamping provisions at the articulation point and the two rotation mechanisms secure the handle in the desired position.

  • Patent number: 5261265
Abstract: Compliance apparatus, for gripping and transporting workpiece sheets such as appliance door blanks to be formed to and from a work station having precision locator sheet stop surfaces, is mounted on a carrier for travel in a generally horizontal path toward the work station. The compliance apparatus includes a plurality of generally horizontally spaced apart, workpiece-aligned suction grippers for collectively gripping the top surface of a workpiece sheet. Resilient mechanism connecting each of the grippers to the carrier provides for relative individual lateral movement of the sheet carrying grippers from neutral positions to positions displaced therefrom in any required direction, as dictated by the sheet engaging one of the locator sheet stop surfaces and being forced to a correctly aligned position in engagement with the other locator sheet stop surface as the carrier moves in its said path of travel.

  • Patent number: 5253390
Abstract: A hinge for an article of furniture has a mount which is attachable to a wall of the article. A hinge unit including a hinge arm and, optionally, a support for the arm is releasably connectible to the mount. To this end, the hinge unit is provided with a shaft which is receivable in a complementary recess of the mount. The hinge unit is further provided with a resilient tongue, and the tongue has a groove which cooperates with a projection on the mount to lock the hinge unit to the mount by snap action. A lever projects at an angle from both sides of the hinge unit, and the free end of each lever carries an arm which extends towards the tongue. An inclined protuberance is provided on either side of the tongue and each lever arm abuts a respective protuberance. The arrangement is such that, when the levers are urged towards one another, the lever arms cooperate with the protuberances to disengage the groove in the tongue from the projection on the mount.

  • Patent number: 5245853
Abstract: When deforming an elongate workpiece, as by forging, rolling, or the like, it is necessary to know the exact position of the workpiece along its length with respect to the deforming device. To this end, one end of the workpiece is secured to a carriage in abutting relation with a stop member and the carriage is moved in the direction away from the deforming device. The position of the stop member with respect to the deforming device is continuously detected thus giving an indication of the position of the workpiece with respect to the deforming device.
