Abstract: The present disclosure provides methods of forming products using one or more lasers. In at least one aspect, a method for powder bed additive manufacturing includes defining a uniform pitch raster path for a laser traveling at a predetermined rate of travel. The raster path alternates back and forth within a strip width of less than 0.5 mm such that the laser's power density level is at least 80 percent of maximum power and the predetermined rate of travel yields a travel speed in the scan width direction of not less than 1,000 mm/s. The method includes depositing a layer of powder onto a substrate and causing the laser to solidify a quantity of the powder according to the defined raster path and the laser power setting.

Abstract: A battery management system (BMS) for a vehicle includes a module for estimating the state of a rechargeable battery, such as its state of charge, in real time. The module includes a learning model for predicting the state of a battery based on the vehicle's usage and related factors unique to the vehicle, in addition to a sensed voltage, current and temperature of a battery.
Abstract: A liquid rocket engine integrates tap-off openings at a combustion chamber wall to direct exhaust from the combustion chamber to a tap-off manifold that provides the exhaust to one or more auxiliary systems, such as a turbopump that pumps oxygen and/or fuel into the combustion chamber. The tap-off opening passes through a fuel channel formed in that combustion chamber exterior wall and receives fuel through a fuel opening that interfaces the fuel channel and tap-off opening. The tap-off manifold nests within a fuel manifold for thermal management. The fuel channel directs fuel into the combustion chamber through fuel port openings formed in the combustion chamber, the fuel port openings located closer to a headend of the combustion chamber than the tap-off openings.

Abstract: The disclosed technology includes a semi-automatic crossbow having a stock, a plurality of limbs, a drawstring, a bolt feeder, a barrel, a draw assembly, and a release. The draw assembly can be configured to automatically move the drawstring to a cocked position and the release can include a trigger and be configured to release the drawstring when the trigger is actuated. The disclosed technology can further include a truck configured to engage the drawstring and a bolt such that the bolt can be propelled forward by the truck when the drawstring is released by the release.
Abstract: A spacer for a body of a refrigerant tank—such as a modulator—in an automotive HVAC device is provided. In embodiments, the spacer is flexible to enable it to be inserted into the modulator, and expanded out against the walls of the modulator when released therein. The spacer inhibits a desiccant bag from contacting the inner wall of the modulator, namely the location where a hole (e.g., for an inlet or outlet) is provided. The spacer can be a cage that surrounds a lower portion of the desiccant bag. And end of the desiccant bag can wrap around a flange of the cage, and be attached to the flange by mechanical fastening (e.g., through a slot), or by welding, or other means.
Abstract: A frame for a unitary component of a sectional seating apparatus having a corner portion having a foundation and an elongate lateral portion having a foundation, interconnected by a longitudinal foundation member extending along a back side of the foundations and a transverse foundation member commonly supporting a side edge of the corner portion and supporting a side edge of the lateral portion intermediate opposing ends of the unitary component.
Abstract: A cleaning robot including: a main body; a drive device; and a cleaning device equipped for wet-cleaning floors to be cleaned, wherein: the main body, on the side facing the floor to be cleaned, is assigned a receptacle unit, a first mop pad configured for wet-cleaning is fastened to the receptacle unit, and the cleaning robot is configured to autonomously exchange the first mop pad fastened to the receptacle unit for a second mop pad.

Abstract: A flat steel product for hot forming may be produced from a steel substrate that includes a steel comprising 0.1-3% by weight Mn and up to 0.01% by weight B, along with a protective coating that is applied to the steel substrate. The protective coating may be based on Al and may contain up to 20% by weight of other alloy elements. Also disclosed are methods for producing such flat steel products, steel components, and methods for producing steel components. Absorption of hydrogen is minimized during heating necessary for hot forming. This is achieved at least in part through an alloy constituent of 0.1-0.5% by weight of at least one alkaline earth or transition metal in the protective coating, wherein an oxide of the alkaline earth or transition metal is formed on an outer surface of the protective coating during hot forming of the flat steel product.
