Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention comprise a signal processing method and apparatus for use in a satellite payload in which an input RF signal received at a receiver antenna is modulated by using a single optical carrier at the input of an optical modulator. The optical domain signal is processed and is subsequently combined with a single unmodulated optical LO tone to provide an output RF signal for radiation by a transmitter antenna or for further digital processing by an on-board processor. This results in a clean generation of the frequency-converted RF signal at the output of the opto-electrical conversion stage.

Abstract: A process and an apparatus for building tyres, wherein, in the process, a carcass sleeve including at least one carcass ply and a pair of annular anchoring structures is transferred to a shaping drum including flange elements that are each engageable with one of said annular anchoring structures. The carcass sleeve is shaped according to a toroidal configuration. Before shaping, annular grip elements respectively carried by the flange elements are radially expanded, each inside one of the annular anchoring structures, in order to engage the carcass sleeve. The annular anchoring structures are moved axially apart from each other before engaging the carcass sleeve by the annular grip elements.

Abstract: A system and method for managing one or more utility connections and utility lines (electrical, water, sewer, data, etc.) associated with a retractable building that may generally translate from a predominantly above grade position to a predominantly below grade position, and back again, is provided. The system includes a cable carrier with a fixed end configured with a first manifold bracket to receive the utility lines from the utility providers, and a movable end configured with a second manifold bracket to connect the utility lines to the building. During use, as the building is lowered underground, the system provides continual and uninterrupted utility connections between the utility providers and the building.
Abstract: A medical imaging system is provided. Imaging detector columns are installed in a gantry to receive imaging information about a subject. Imaging detector columns can extend and retract radially as well as be rotated orbitally around the gantry. The system can automatically adjust setup configuration and an imaging operation based on subject shape estimation information.

Abstract: A gas detector comprises a metal oxide semiconductor gas sensor whose resistance decreases in reducing gases and a digital information processing device that treats the output of the gas sensor and compares the output with a comparison value for gas detection. The digital information processing device extracts data representing the resistance of the gas sensor in air from the output of the gas sensor and generates the comparison value such that the larger the resistance of the gas sensor in air is, the larger the ratio between the resistance of the gas sensor in air and a resistance value corresponding to the comparison value is.

Abstract: A personalized garment and clothing design system and a personalized garment and clothing design process are disclosed. The personalized garment and clothing design system provides a user-accessible, interactive website that is configured to allow a user to design personalized garments and clothes. The personalized garment and clothing design system hosts a website that is interactive and provides several personalized garment and clothing design web user interface (UI) tools through which the user can provide personalized body type and sizing information. The user can utilize the UI tools to customize and personalize styles, fabrics, trims, sizing, colors, patterns, clothing and garment features, etc. The user can also interact with a customized digital mannequin to view personalized garment and clothing designs in progress. When finished, the garment or clothing design is physically produced and sent to the user to wear or start their own line and sell their custom designed garments.
Abstract: A method of monitoring a sealing component of a gas turbine engine, comprising: collecting oil leaked from the component; detecting a volume of the collected oil upstream of an oil return path of the gas turbine engine; and signalling for inspection of the component when the volume of the collected oil exceeds a threshold volume. Also disclosed is an oil leakage monitoring system for a gas turbine engine, comprising: one or more sealing components to be lubricated by oil; a valve downstream of the one or more components and fluidly connected to an oil system; a reservoir downstream of the one or more components to collect oil, the reservoir upstream of the valve; and a volume measurement device configured to detect the oil collected in the reservoir, and to signal for inspection of the one or more components when the oil collected in the reservoir exceeds a threshold volume.

Abstract: Automated systems and methods for obtaining of the concentration of impurities in a liquid ethylene oxide product stream are shown and described. The systems and methods employ remote injection and flash vaporization of small volumes of liquid ethylene oxide into a carrier gas to minimize polymerization of the ethylene oxide and accumulation of polymerized ethylene oxide. Ethylene oxide peaks are diverted from the gas chromatograph effluent detector to stabilize baseline signal errors and avoid errors in the calculation of an impurity with an adjacent retention time peak. The systems and methods may be used for feedback, feedforward, dynamic matrix, and/or model-based predictive control of ethylene oxide purity. The systems and methods reduce lag times and errors associated with relying on laboratory analyses to make process adjustments.

Abstract: A portion of a wellbore is put into communication or is isolated by selectively applying an axial or rotational force downhole. The axial force moves a shifting sleeve and deployment sleeve from an initial position to an opening position causing a valve element to move into an open configuration and allowing communication to the portion of the wellbore. The shifting sleeve is returned to the initial position and separated from the deployment sleeve, which is anchored to a retraction sleeve adjacent the valve element. Threads on the shifting and retraction sleeves become engaged when the deployment sleeve is moved to the opening position. The retraction sleeve is rotated by rotating the shifting sleeve, threaded engagement with the rotating retraction sleeve draws the deployment sleeve away from the valve element, and allows the valve element to move to a closed configuration.
Abstract: A heat exchanger includes a pipe made of aluminum, a thermistor, and an attaching portion with which the thermistor is attached to the pipe. The pipe carries a flow of refrigerant. The thermistor detects a temperature of the refrigerant. The pipe includes a sacrificial layer provided on a part of a surface of the pipe. The sacrificial layer is lower in potential than the aluminum of the pipe. The attaching portion is higher in potential than the sacrificial layer. At least one part of the attaching portion is attached to the surface of the pipe where the sacrificial layer is not provided. The attaching portion includes a brazed portion that is higher in potential than the sacrificial layer. The thermistor is attached to the pipe with the brazed portion.
Abstract: A system and method to aid in guidance, navigation and control of a guided projectile including a precision guidance munition assembly is provided. The system and method obtain raw position data during flight of the guided projectile, the raw position data including a plurality of position data points from the guiding sensor for determining positions of the guided projectile, establish a window including a portion of the plurality of position data points, smooth the portion of the plurality of position data points in the window, and determine a reduced noise position estimate of the guided projectile, based, at least in part, on the smoothed portion of the plurality of position data points in the window. The system and method may determine a velocity estimate of the guided projectile and predict an impact point of the guided projectile relative to a target.
