  • Patent number: 7191632
Abstract: In forming a can body by processing a cup-shaped in-process material with a punch and a die, the die is not heated when the forming process is not carried out, and the die is heated when the forming process is carried out. Therefore, the temperature of the die is adjusted in accordance with the temperature rise of the punch result from the forming process, a clearance between the punch and the die can be maintained, misalignment of the punch and the die can be prevented, and slip and elongation becomes preferable. Therefore, nonuniformity in the wall thickness, breakage of the can body, and breakage of a flange can be suppressed.

  • Patent number: 7191626
Abstract: In the production of an internal contour with an internal arbor acting on the inner wall of a cup-shaped or annular rotationally symmetrical workpiece, expansion and length change of the workpiece are avoided during cold forming. Thus, gear components with internal teeth are produced that have greater symmetry and higher accuracy. A workpiece provided with a press fit on the outside or a prefabricated workpiece is inserted into the die, and during the cold forming is pressed tightly by friction and rotationally fixed with the rotationally driven internal arbor against the inner wall of the die. After completion of the rolling process of the profile, the workpiece is ejected with an axial ram. The internal arbor is provided with outside profiling and is cantilever-mounted and is fed axially and radially during the rolling.

  • Patent number: 7188499
Abstract: A pressing member 44 is pressed from the outside against a peripheral wall of a can shell 4 whose interior is maintained at a predetermined pressure by gas, to form a recess-deformed portion 56 having a predetermined shape on the peripheral wall of the can shell 4. Thereby, three-dimensional patterns can be formed by recess-deforming desired portions of the can shell 4 while preventing the strength of the can shell 4 from being deteriorated and preventing the inner surface of the can shell 4 from being scratched or the coating from being damaged, by which outer shape processing with high design performance can be easily applied to the can shell 4 at a low cost.

  • Patent number: 7181945
Abstract: A pulley is made by fixing an edge of an opening of a plate by using a first upper mandrel ring installed at a lower end of a first supporting pin of a first forming device. A supporting block disposed around an upper end of a first spindle is rotated with the first spindle. An inner hub of the pulley is formed by inwardly pressing an upper surface of the plate against a first pressing roller to reduce the thickness of the plate while drawing the plate around a first mandrel ring. The plate is fixed to a second spindle of a second forming device, so the plate rotates with the second spindle. An outer hub is formed by pressing a convex bead toward the inner hub by using a fourth pressing roller and by drawing the outer hub.

  • Patent number: 7168279
Abstract: A metal ring with smaller stress concentration is manufactured, and the manufacture and maintenance of a rolling roller for transferring a mesh-shaped unevenness to the metal ring is facilitated. A mesh-like unevenness 8 is formed to the surface of an inner circumference rolling roller 6. This unevenness 8 is formed by rotating the inner circumference rolling roller 6 at a predetermined speed, and moving a grinder 9 back and forth in the axial direction of the inner circumference rolling roller 6 while biasing the grinder toward the surface of the roller 6 with predetermined force. The grain size of the grinder is between #270 and #1000. When the inner circumferential surface of the metal ring 1 is rolled using the inner circumference rolling roller 6, a mesh-like unevenness 2 is transferred onto the metal ring 1.

  • Patent number: 7165430
Abstract: An apparatus comprises a rotating member having one or more rollers. The one or more rollers have a plurality of protuberances. The rollers may be advanced toward a surface during rotation of the rotating member, such as toward a bore surface. The protuberances are configured to make a pattern of discrete indentations in the surface upon engagement of the protuberances with the surface. The apparatus is particularly suited for creating oil-retention pockets in the surface of an engine cylinder and other uses. The apparatus may be used to create a pattern of oil-retention pockets or other pockets in a cylinder with varying pocket density in a single pass.

  • Patent number: 7165434
Abstract: The object of the invention is a hot-forming tool (1) having an upper die and a lower die (1a, 1b), the upper as well as the lower die (1a, 1b) each consisting of a base plate (2) having a forming cheek (3) fixed thereto and a core (4) which is also fixed to the base plate (2), and a duct system (5) for the guiding-through of a coolant being constructed between the core (4) and the backside of the forming cheek (3) facing the core (4). In this case, at least the forming cheeks (3) are constructed as cast parts. As a result of this manufacturing method relating to the forming cheeks (2) (3? translator), the manufacturing costs of the hot-forming tool (1) can be significantly lowered because a high-expenditure mechanical cutting machining of the forming cheeks is only still required in the area of the mounting surfaces (3a) as well as the mutually facing exterior sides (3b).

  • Patent number: 7162904
Abstract: A method for producing a bung for a metal cask that does not require a conventional collar and seal, and that simplifies the operations for forming the bung. The method disclosed in the present application includes the following steps. First, a prestamping operation creates a preforming dome in the wall of the cask such that a cuvett is formed. Second, an approximately cylindrical shaft is formed by stamping and thus puncturing the wall of the cask at the location of the bung. Third, the protruding edge of the shaft is folded down the to form an external rolled edge. Fourth, encircling the shaft with a rigid ring constituted by at least two annular sections such that the metal does not tear during the formation of the threads. Finally, the method of the present invention includes the step of implementing a roller threading head to form internal threads in the shaft.
