  • Patent number: 6428871
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for forming a decorative, resilient, wood product from an engineered structural wood product. The invention includes utilizing a sheet of engineered structural wood product, cutting the sheet lengthwise into planks, stacking the planks and adhering the planks together and slicing the edge grain off the adhered planks and placing the slices side-by-side to form large areas of exposed side grain. The slices can be attached to a substrate, and the slices can be further treated to produce a decorative wood product.

  • Patent number: 6426131
Abstract: Disclosed is a pupil aperture, and method for making the pupil aperture for use in a photolithography scanner system. The pupil aperture includes a plate having a set of pole apertures that are radially offset from a reference center point of the plate. The plate further includes a horizontal reference line that intersects the reference center point. The horizontal reference line is used to define a target angle that is between about 15 degrees and about 35 degrees from the horizontal reference line. The target angle defines an off-axis location for each of the set of pole apertures. In a specific aspect of this invention, a set ranging between 3 to 9 pole apertures can be defined in the plate, and their offset from the center point can be selected to be between about 0.3 inches and about 0.9 inches.

  • Patent number: 6423390
Abstract: A pouch label is constructed from only two plies, provides two distinct pockets, and can optionally provide additional labels or printed material including forms. The first ply forms the label ply while the second ply is a liner ply die cut into at least two component parts, such that a first liner portion is circumscribed by a second liner portion. An adhesive is applied between the label ply and the liner ply such that the second liner ply portion is releasably held against the label ply, and only a portion of the periphery of the first liner ply portion is secured to the label ply such that a pouch is formed with the back of the label ply. The pouch is formed because there is no adhesive within the perimeter of the first liner portion. The label ply preferably includes at least one line of weakening scored across the pouch portion and positioned such that tearing the label ply along the line of weakening opens the pouch formed between the label ply and the first liner ply.

  • Patent number: 6416857
Abstract: The invention is a tamper indicating device including a backing. The backing includes a first phase and a second phase. The backing is normally light transmissive, but a peeling force causes the backing to internally delaminate and become opaque. A first skin layer is fixed to the backing wherein the skin layer minimizes pre-destruction of the backing. A layer of adhesive is applied to the first skin layer, which can be affixed to a substrate.

  • Patent number: 6379763
Abstract: A load bearing attachment fitting for a composite material structure. The fitting includes an elongate body having a plurality of undulations formed along its longitudinal sides. The undulations engage the fibers in the fiber-resin matrix so as to transmit loads from the fitting into the body of the structure. To form the connection between the fitting and the composite material structure, longitudinal strips of fiber-resin tape are laid over the fitting and an adjacent form which defines the body of the structure. Crosswise fibers are then wound over the longitudinal tape to force and hold the longitudinal fibers in conformity with the undulations along the fitting, so that the longitudinal fibers transmit loads from the fitting into the composite material structure. A fluidizable form may be used to form the body of the structure, and after curing the forms may be removed by washing this out through a threaded bore in the attachment fitting.

  • Patent number: 6335074
Abstract: A thermal insulation panel exhibits little or no warping due to temperature differences between different portions of the panel. The panel comprises insulation material and an envelope for encapsulating the insulation material. The envelope comprises a base member and a cover member. The cover member is supported by the base member in a floating and sealing engagement with the base member. The cover member can slide relative to the base member to compensate for differential thermal expansion effects on the respective base member and cover member. In an alternative embodiment the cover member is adapted to be exposed to a temperature significantly below the temperature to which the base member is exposed. The cover member is formed of a metal having a low coefficient of thermal expansion to compensate for differential thermal expansion effects in the respective base member and cover member. The cover member and the base member are joined to provide the envelope with a hermetic seal.
