  • Patent number: 5596918
Abstract: A slitting assembly for producing a plurality of "interrupted cut" slits in a large sheet of sport card photos includes a horizontal support track carrying a plurality of individual upper slitting assemblies each including a freely rotatable upper hub, an upper blade concentrically attached to the upper hub, a resilient band circumferentially disposed on the upper hub to frictionally engage the top surface of the sheet being slit, and an upper blade biasing element to resiliently urge an edge of the upper blade against an edge of the corresponding lower blade. The upper blades are precisely parallel to the lower blades to avoid interference with notches provided in the lower blades to interrupt the slits being made. The locations of the notches are selected to compensate for slippage resulting from the frictional engagement.

  • Patent number: 5590576
Abstract: An apparatus for loading individual connectors into a wire-harness making machine includes a feed track which feeds a supply of connectors which have been separated from a connector supply chain. The lead connector is advanced into a feed channel whereupon a severing knife is advanced into the feed channel to separate the lead connector from an adjacent connector. The severing knife remains in place momentarily as a shuttle mechanism is actuated to move the severed lead connector along the feed channel, the severing knife blade forming a portion of the feed channel during the shuttling of the severed connector. Optical sensors may be mounted in proximity to the severing knife in order to verify the presence or absence of a connector prior to severing.

  • Patent number: 5588212
Abstract: An emergency safety-belt cutter is provided with frame having an opening. A slide is disposed within the frame opening for receiving and closely supporting the safety-belt. The slide constrains the safety-belt to keep the safety-belt from wrinkling during the cutting movement of said blade. A cutting blade having a cutting edge is attached to the frame and protrudes into the opening. The blade engages and cuts the safety-belt supported in the slide upon movement of said frame transversely over said safety-belt. Furthermore, a guard means is detachably secured to the frame to prevent cutting the safety-belt during inadvertent pulling of the frame. The guard means includes a sheath positioned in front of the cutting blade cutting edge to protectively sheath the blade. The guard means is detachable from the frame to unsheathe the cutting edge to permit cutting of the safety belt.

  • Patent number: 5575185
Abstract: A method of making a pair of rotary die cylinders with lands having coacting cutting edges which cut blanks from a web of material passing through the nip of the rotating dies. In cross section each land has an outer face and a pair of spaced apart side faces which are parallel to each other and perpendicular to the chord of the outer face to provide a clean cut and facilitate release of the cut blank from the cutting blades as it emerges from the nip of the dies. The die cylinders are journalled for rotation by recesses with frusto conical locating surfaces in their opposed ends. Each die cylinder is made by machining the recesses in the opposed ends of a generally cylindrical workpiece of tool steel and then utilizing the recesses to locate and orient the workpiece relative to a cutting tool to produce a cylindrical surface on the workpiece concentric with the axis of the recesses and then to machine away portions of the periphery of the cylindrical surface to form the cutting blade lands thereon.
