    Abstract: Apparatus for trimming cylindrical cans wherein each can is orbited about a central turret axis while being rotated about its longitudinal can axis is disclosed. The cans are successively mounted with vacuum onto a support mandrel located on a support shaft within each of plural cartridge assemblies mounted at circumferentially spaced intervals on a turret disk. The can is firmly secured to the mandrel by vacuum so that the open end portion of the can body projects between an outside circular cutting knife and an inside trimming edge disposed within the open end. As the cartridge orbits about the turret axis on the shaft axis, the inside trimming edge is radially displaced by camming action into contact with the open end portion of the can body and the outside cutting edge to generate cutting forces for trimming the portion.

    Abstract: A roll sheet cutter mechanism for an image forming apparatus is provided which is adapted to cut a roll sheet 4 paid out of a feed reel 51 between a rotary blade 82 and a stationary blade 81. When the leading edge of the transported roll sheet 4 passes over the rotary blade 82 located at a guiding position, the rotary blade 82 guides the leading edge of the roll sheet 4 in a transportation direction. The rotary blade 82 returns to a cutting stand-by position before the tail edge portion of the roll sheet 4 passes over the rotary blade 82. Therefore, the occurrence of jam of the roll sheet due to the curling thereof can assuredly be prevented. Further, time loss can be eliminated because the rotary blade is adapted to return to the cutting stand-by position.

    Abstract: A compact hole punch for manually punching holes through sheet-like material to produce hole sets which enable the material to be mounted on multi-ring binders. The hole punch includes male and female plates, which in operation move convergently between an open position and a collapsed position and are retained in a parallel relative orientation by pivotally mounted support posts and a spring. The male plate carries a plurality of punch pegs while the female plate carries corresponding die openings through which the punch pegs penetrate to cut the holes in the material when the plates are pressed together. An adjustable slide member is removably mounted on the female plate for engagement with the posts to lock the hole punch in the collapsed position. The slide member also acts as an adjustable stop guide for positioning the material within the hole punch.

    Abstract: A paper cutter comprising: a bed for placing paper to be cut thereon; a rail mounted on the bed; a slider made slidable along the rail; and a rotary blade carried by the slider for cutting the paper as the slider is moved. Further comprised are springs for supporting the two ends of the rail therethrough on the bed so that the rail may move up and down. The rail has its lower face formed on its end edge with a cutting position determining face such that the slider is fitted on the rail in a position where the rotary blade runs along the positioning face. With this construction, the rail itself is supported in a floating state on the bed. As a result, the paper is cut with the rotary blade by lowering the floating rail with the depression of the slider and by clamping the paper under pressure only at the portion to be cut between the rail and the bed as the slider is moved.

The cutting blade is located in front of the recess when it is in its retracted position to keep the lid retainer in the recess. However, when the cutting blade is moved to its cutting position, the cutting blade is moved out of the path of the recess to allow the lid retainer to move from its recessed position to its extended position. The cutting blade can also push the lid retainer back to its recessed position when the cutting blade is moved back to its retracted position.

    Abstract: An apparatus for slitting a stack of folded corrugated paperboard boxes utilizes a thin slitting blade mounted for continuous movement through a slitting station and defining a vertical slitting plane. A stack supporting table straddles the slitting blade support a stack of boxes in a stand-by position above the blade. Adjustable upstream and downstream squaring devices are operative to square and center the stack in the cutting plane and a vertically reciprocable ram operates to move the stack and the supporting table downwardly past the blade against a table biasing force to slit the stack into two half-size stacks. The squaring device is operable to re-square the slit half-size stacks prior to conveyance out of the slitting station. The slitting run of the continuous blade operates in a rigid blade holder which is adjustable to compensate for blade wear and to maintain the cutting edge of the blade in a fixed plane.

    Abstract: A filament trimmer has an improved trimmer head. The trimmer head includes a spool having crush ribs on its core to prevent contraction of the filament line from warping or otherwise damaging the spool. A slot shaped exit aperture is provided in the head which can be opened up when the head is disassembled to allow the filament line to be more easily placed therein, but which will be closed when the head is fully assembled and will constrain the line against excessive vertical movement. The head includes a line indexing system for feeding out additional line in which one of the groups of the conventional teeth in such system are vertically spaced away from the spool flanges and are placed on a spool core extension. A dirt seal is provided to help prevent from passing around the ground engaging member of the indexing system. Finally, the head includes a self threading drive shaft that forms the attachment threads for the head into the head when the head is threaded onto the drive shaft.
