  • Patent number: 5490440
Abstract: A paper punch for punching one or more holes into one or more sheets is disclosed. The paper punch includes a pair of top and bottom plates, formed of a polymer and hingelike mounted to one another along respective straight edges about an off-center pivot point located below the surface of the bottom plate. The off-center hingelike mounting assures an equal tolerance in entry as the punch head enters its punch hole. The hingelike mounting further includes integral mounting members designed to secure the paper punch about rings of a loose-leaf binder. The hingelike mounting includes male members formed on one of the pair of plates designed to cooperate with female members formed on the other plate. One of the pair of plates is formed with a reentrant segment to facilitate the angular separation of said pair of plates from one another preparatory to insertion of a sheet therebetween. The pivot is off-centered by a distance equal to the height of a male punching member.

  • Patent number: 5485772
Abstract: A machine for slicing bakery products such as rolls and buns. Buns that are arranged in clusters having at least four buns each have their two outside buns sliced from the outer edges and the interior buns sliced from a location between them. A vertical disk with a dull edge is arranged to engage the weak line between the two interior buns to create a break from the bottom that provides access for the shaft of the slicing blade to pass through the bun cluster without disfiguring the buns. The disks and the slicing blades for the interior buns are carried on a lower slicing mechanism which underlies the conveyor system for the buns. The lower slicing mechanism can be slid out to one side of the machine for servicing. The disks can be lowered to an inoperative position by an actuating linkage, and the lower slicing blades are automatically released when the disks are lowered.

  • Patent number: 5483856
Abstract: An apparatus and method for slitting a stack of folded corrugated paperboard boxes utilizes a thin slitting blade mounted for continuous movement through a slitting station and defining a vertical slitting plane. A stack supporting table straddles the slitting blade to support a stack of boxes in a stand-by position above the blade. Adjustable upstream and downstream squaring devices are operative to square and center the stack in the cutting plane and a vertically reciprocable ram operates to move the stack and the supporting table downwardly past the blade against a table biasing force to slit the stack into two half-size stacks. The squaring device is operable to re-square the slit half-size stacks prior to conveyance out of the slitting station. The slitting run of the continuous blade operates in a rigid blade holder which is adjustable to compensate for blade wear and to maintain the cutting edge of the blade in a fixed plane.

  • Patent number: 5479839
Abstract: A method is provided for cutting pipes, preferably welded pipes in conjunction with welding the pipes in a welding machine, and for cutting the pipes at a rate determined by the welding machine. At the same time a pipe is cut in a cutting position by a raisable and lowerable cutting device, the next pipe to be cut is fed to a pipe collecting position. The collecting position is displaced in relation to the cutting position, such that when the cutting device returns to its starting position upon completion of a cutting operation, the pipe is advanced one step to the pipe cutting position while simultaneously, the preceding pipe is advanced to the pipe collecting position.

  • Patent number: 5460070
Abstract: A fence for a saw table includes a threaded shaft rotatably mounted parallel to one side edge of the saw table platform and a guide fence operably mounted on the shaft to move longitudinally as the shaft is rotated. The guide fence is mounted to the shaft on a mounting block with a locking mechanism which permits the block to be affixed to the threaded shaft so that the guide fence may be pivoted to a storage position on the shaft, and then returned to an operable position in the same place on the saw table. A handle mounted on the end of the threaded shaft permits longitudinal movement of the guide fence along the saw table. A wheel mounted on the free end of the guide fence supports the guide fence end slightly above the surface of the saw table.

  • Patent number: 5457877
Abstract: Apparatus for cutting through the sheathing of a cable comprises a cutting wheel and a guide assembly including a guide box substantially enclosing the cutting wheel except for a portion extending through and beyond an end wall of the box. The box end wall abuts a plate extending perpendicular to the end wall and parallel to the cutting wheel. A slot through the plate has side and bottom walls extending parallel to the cutting wheel axle. In use, a cable in the slot extends axially towards and over the cutting wheel. A first cut is thus made in the cable in a plane perpendicular to the cable axis. By positioning the cable to extend axially parallel to the plate, an axially extending second cut is made. By extending the first cut entirely around the cable and intersecting the two cuts, a section of the cable sheathing is removed.

  • Patent number: 5456147
Abstract: An automatic saw is provided having a rotatable saw blade for cutting through a workpiece which is carried on a movable arm, which permits the workpiece to be moved into engagement with the saw blade. The saw blade is mounted on a first shaft while the workpiece and arm are mounted on a second, rotary shaft. Typically, a load cell is carried on the second shaft to sense torsional stress created by the pressure of the saw against the workpiece. This torsional stress is a direct measurement of the pressure of the saw against the load cell, and may be used in a feedback system for automatic adjustment of the sawing conditions. Also, it is preferred for the second shaft to be longitudinally movable in an automatic manner by means of a threaded, rotary arrangement for longitudinally advancing and retracting the second shaft between predetermined positions. A rotary encoder may be used to monitor the rotary position of the second shaft and arm.
