  • Patent number: 4610651
Abstract: A pinch bottom open mouth ("PBOM") bag having a pinch bottom flap folded over upon and adhered to one wall of the bag, with a tab for tearing the flap open inserted at its inner end between the walls of the bag, folded to overlie the flap and the outside of the other wall and releasably adhered to the other wall. A method of and apparatus for manufacturing the bags with the tabs from bag tubes wherein the tubes are continuously fed forward, one after another, tabs are applied to the tubes as the tubes travel forward and folded to overlie the other wall before the pinch closure flap is folded over. Each tab is inserted between the walls of a tube by bringing the tab into a position overlapping the one wall and separating the one wall from the other to the point where the end of the tab slips off the one wall and becomes disposed between the walls.

  • Patent number: 4610576
Abstract: A single-tooth cutter for sloping the axial face of gears, in which the gear which is to be worked performs a continuous or step-by-step rotary movement whereby successive rotations of the single-tooth cutter will cause a working on successive teeth at least one sloped surface, and in which the workpiece and the single-tooth cutter after each workpiece rotation approach one another, until the desired sloped shape is reached, the chip removal occurring through the provision of at least two edges which in peripheral direction are arranged one directly behind the other. A cutter which can also be used for this has two edges which act one directly after the other, which edges can have a different distance from the axis of rotation of the cutter.

  • Patent number: 4608850
Abstract: A method of operating a rolling mill in a manner that avoids the occurrence of alligatoring in a slab of metal as it is reduced in thickness in the mill. The slab is subject to a schedule of repeated passes through the mill to effect a predetermined amount of reduction in thickness of the slab in each pass. The method comprises the steps of analyzing the pass schedule of such a slab, and noting any pass in the schedule that has a combination of entry gauge and reduction draft that may subject the slab to alligatoring. An untapered nose of the slab is next presented to the bite of the mill, and if the combination of entry gauge and reduction draft is one that is not subject to alligatoring, the slab is passed through the mill to reduce its thickness as scheduled.

  • Patent number: 4609366
Abstract: An apparatus for making plastic handle bags from an advancing flat tubular web includes a knife supported above the moving web and reciprocated transversely by a cam roller to produce a sinusoidal-wave-like cut longitudinally of the web. A support guide having a slot at least as wide as the wave amplitude is positioned beneath the web so that in the event of an interruption of feed the guide lowers, withdrawing the web from the knife, which continues to reciprocate, thereby avoiding start-up inertial friction or chatter. Downstream of the cutting station a detour assembly phase shifts one of the half-tubes 180.degree. to align the transversely extending bag edges for heat sealing. The cutting support assembly is longitudinally movable of the web.

  • Patent number: 4609367
Abstract: Apparatus for making bags from a folded web of thermoplastic material includes a rotating drum to which the web is continuously applied. As the drum rotates through a given arc length, the web is tucked outwardly from the periphery of the drum in progressively deeper folds wherein the depth of tuck determines the width of the bag. A cam, controlling the depth of tuck is movable in a rectilinear radial direction for adjusting the depth of tuck, thereby controlling the bag width.

  • Patent number: 4607514
Abstract: A pill-shaped billet which is tapered in thickness toward an outer, relatively thin rim, extending circumferentially therearound, is cold formed into a metal part having an annular flange. Upper and lower die elements define cavities, and shoulders extending circumferentially therearound, and are positioned in a sleeve with the shoulders being directly opposed, thereby defining an annular space. The billet is placed between the upper and lower die elements in the sleeve with the rim of the billet in the annular space. The upper and lower die elements contact the billet only along the edges between their respective shoulders and cavities. When the upper and lower die elements are moved toward each other, the annular flange is formed by extruding radially outward the part of the billet between the shoulders, while simultaneously cold forming the billet into the first and second cavities.

  • Patent number: 4608037
Abstract: The invention relates to method and apparatus for removing the flaps from a perforated web of paper by drawing the perforated web over an abrasively surfaced drum rotating in the same direction as the paper is traveling and at a peripheral speed about seven times greater than the speed of the web. The web is passed over the drum such that the flaps are at the leading or downstream edges of the perforations and lie between the paper and the drum. A spring-biased pressure yoke holds the perforated web against the drum surface with a predetermined amount of pressure to facilitate abrading the flaps from the web.

  • Patent number: 4607550
Abstract: A crankshaft turning machine operating on the dual cam principle, in which the gyro cutterhead (51) is carried in an internal eccentric cam (11) and the latter in an external eccentric cam (15) rotatable in a housing, both cams being adjustable as to their mutual position. For purposes of avoiding the creation of flattened portions at the crankpins to be machined at the transition from the plunge cut to the circular feed, the design is such that the transition from the plunge cut turning process to the circular feed turning process takes place without any feed stop phase.

  • Patent number: 4607511
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling the gauge of a product, such as for example a rod or bar, as the product is passing from an upstream roll stand to a finishing block. The product is rolled under tension between successive sizing stands arranged between the upstream roll stand and the finishing block. Variable loops are introduced in the product between the upstream stand and the first sizing stand as well as between the second sizing stand and the finishing block. Cross sectional dimensional measurements are taken of the product emerging from the second sizing stand, and signals representative of such measurements are employed by a controller to vary the product tension between the sizing stands in order to correct off gauge conditions in the product emerging from the second sizing stand.

  • Patent number: 4606248
Abstract: A cutting tool comprises a bit-holder fed at a prescribed feed amount f per revolution in a feeding direction and a throw-away tip made of superhard metal and including a rake face, an bottom face parallel to the rake face, and cutting blade edges. The throw-away tip is provided with recess on at least one of the rake and bottom faces thereof. A distance w3 between a side surface defining the recess and the cutting blade edge in the feeding direction is defined within a range satisfying the following formula represented by; f.ltoreq.w3.ltoreq.5f. Therefore rare and expensive cutter material can be saved, and the throw-away tip can be prevented from being damaged by cutting heat because its radiating area is made larger.
