Patent number: 4601322Abstract: A pipe mold for centrifugally casting pipe is disclosed. The pipe mold according to the present invention is made by depositing weld material on a rigid shell. The rigid shell is obtained by forming a flat plate into a cylinder and welding the resultant seam. Additional rigid shells can be circumferentially welded together to obtain a desired length. The welded seams are areas of weakness called metallurgical notches. To eliminate the metallurgical notches, weld material is deposited on the shell. In one embodiment, weld material is deposited on the outside of the shell. The shell then is machined away. The resultant pipe mold has a total wall thickness comprising weld material and is free of metallurgical notches. In addition, the need for furnace heat-treatment to achieve properties in the weld material can be eliminated.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 1984Date of Patent: July 22, 1986Assignee: National Forge CompanyInventor: Ashok K. Patent number: 4601687Abstract: The present is a machine for forming an inside-outside Bliss-type H-divider shipping container. It is based on an adaptation of a Moen or similar type single cycle container former. These machines employ a split mandrel which is generally in the form of a rectangular prism approximating the inner dimensions of the container. The H-divider portion of the container is held within the mandrel while the body portion is erected thereabout. Opposed plows mounted on the mandrel are adapted to fold what will become interior flaps joined to the end walls. These plows are located so that at the assembly point of the container they are entirely within the confines of the outer boundaries of the mandrel. Located in this position, they cause no interference with the erection of the body portion of the container.Type: GrantFiled: January 9, 1985Date of Patent: July 22, 1986Assignee: Weyerhaeuser CompanyInventor: Donald D. Patent number: 4601188Abstract: A pair of work rolls is provided in a strip mill of the type having one or more back-up rolls for each work roll. Each work roll comprises a tubular body having an axial bore of uniform diameter throughout its length. The exterior surface of the tubular body has a cylindrical roll face of uniform diameter, terminating at its ends in neck portions of lesser diameter. The ends of the body are closed by removable fluid-tight plugs. A cylindrical mandrel of the same length as the roll face is mounted in the bore of each work roll and normally has an interference fit therein. The mandrels of the upper and lower work rolls are relieved at opposite ends. The remainder of the work roll bore at either end of the mandrel defines a pair of volumes in each work roll, filled with hydraulic fluid and individually controllable as to hydraulic pressure. When a strip is to be rolled, the mandrel of each roll is shifted to align its relief with one of the strip edges.Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 1985Date of Patent: July 22, 1986Inventor: Tadeusz Sendzimir

Patent number: 4599884Abstract: An apparatus for transferring a relatively flat object from a first station to a second station includes a support for the object at the first station, a substantially closed housing, and a piston disposed therein for sliding movement from a normal position to an activated position. An actuator extends through the housing and is integrally formed with the piston for sliding movement thereby. Compressed air is selectively directed into the housing for movement of the piston to the activated position, whereby the actuator strikes a blow edgewise of the object for propelling it toward the second station along a predetermined path. A pair of fingers disposed at the second station define therebetween a portion of the path along which an incoming object enters the second station. Each finger includes a path wall having an end surface extending generally inwardly from the finger for blocking the object path for halting object movement.Type: GrantFiled: January 16, 1984Date of Patent: July 15, 1986Assignee: Dayton Reliable Tool & Mfg. Patent number: 4600044Abstract: A method and apparatus for joining fittings, particularly wooden stair rail fittings. The apparatus includes a mitre jig and a double slot jig. The mitre jig has a base with a curved bed for supporting the fitting to be cut. A wall is used with the base that has on it a scale for indicating the angle of incline of the stair being worked with. A recess in the wall accommodates a saw and a slot in the wall receives the saw blade. The fitting is placed on the base with its seam aligned with the particular indication for the stair's angle of incline. A saw is then used to cut the fitting. The double slot jig is used to cut slots into the ends of fittings for joining them. The double slot jig has a base, a tray, a double-bladed cutting apparatus, and a frame. The tray supports the fitting to be cut and is movable on the base. Appropriate stops are used to correctly position the fitting on the base and to limit the movement of the tray on the base.
