  • Patent number: 4819857
Abstract: A method for fabricating a composite structure, in which an intermediate member is sandwiched between first and second members, is disclosed. In this method, the intermediate member is disposed along the periphery of a spatial region formed between facing surfaces of the first and second members so that the spatial region is enclosed by the intermediate member, the fluidity of the intermediate member is enhanced under an atmosphere having a predetermined pressure, and then the pressure of the atmosphere is increased to make the intermediate member flow into the spatial region.

  • Patent number: 4817242
Abstract: A spring hinge for raising a toilet seat and having an adjustable spring force. First and second hinge members with hinge knuckles that interfit closely end-to-end are attachable respectively to the toilet bowl and the seat. A rod extends through the knuckles and is slidably received in end caps on the hinge members at opposite ends. A first coupling member on the rod presents a series of teeth extending circumferentially around the rod and facing toward the end cap on the second hinge member. A second coupling member on the inside of the second hinge member's end cap has similar teeth which engage the teeth of the first coupling member. A coil spring encircles the rod inside the hinge knuckles and is fastened at one end to the end cap of the first hinge member and at the opposite end to the first coupling member to normally hold the first coupling member in toothed engagement with the second coupling member.

  • Patent number: 4817241
Abstract: To be able to mount a mitered door to a mitered wall and open it as wide as possible, and for keeping the miter joint as tight as possible, a hinge for the door comprises two base parts or inner and outer housings which are likewise mitered, making close contact with each other in the "closed position" of the hinge and being coordinated with the miter plane of the piece of furniture or the like. The two base parts are interconnected by long brackets and short brackets, the long brackets forming crosses and being connected by a pin. The inner housing is adjustable relative to the outer housing in the longitudinal direction and in the transverse direction, each by given amounts. Each adjustment is made via a turnable pinion acting upon a rack of a first intermediate member. The adjustment of the inner housing relative to the outer housing is achieved via the intermediate members, each of which is retained in one direction.

  • Patent number: 4817238
Abstract: A door-closer has an air cylinder in which a piston rod and a piston body are provided to define first and second sealed chambers. The piston body is sleeved movably on the piston rod and has a tapered bore which is communicated with the second chamber. A closable passage is formed through the piston and communicated with the first and second chambers. A spring-biased seal is disposed in the second chamber and biased to close the closable passage. A regulatable passage is formed through the piston body and communicated with the tapered bore and the first chamber. The piston rod has a shoulder which is movable axially within the tapered bore by rotating the cylinder relative to the piston rod for regulating the air flow between the first and second chambers through the regulatable passage. The spring-biased seal is movable to open the closable passage when the piston body moves in response to the opening of the door.

  • Patent number: 4815162
Abstract: A door hinge assembly includes a frame and a door with top and bottom hinge pivot assemblies. The top hinge pivot assembly includes a plate fixed to the frame and thereabove a parallel vertically movable plate. The upper plate includes a downwardly projecting hinge pin which projects through a clearance hole in the fixed plate. The fixed plate also includes an upwardly extending guide pin which extends through a clearance hole in the upper plate. A screw extends through the fixed plate and is threaded into the upper plate. When the screw is loosened the upper plate and thus the hinge pin may be pushed up, or permitted to drop into place. By tightening the screw the hinge pin is locked in its extended position and the screw head is flush with the bottom of the fixed plate. The bottom hinge pivot assembly includes an L-shape bracket with the vertical leg secured to the frame and the horizontal leg beneath the door.

  • Patent number: 4815516
Abstract: Y.sub.2 O.sub.3 is recovered from investment casting shell molds by introducing used mold materials into a dissolution reactor preferably consisting of a rotating vessel having an interior lining of acid and abrasion resistant material. An acid is combined with the materials in the reactor and agitated for a selected time period. Thereafter, the liquid remaining in the reactor is separated from the residual solids and removed. The liquid contains dissolved Y.sub.2 O.sub.3 which is precipitated, preferably using oxalic acid to produce yttrium oxalate [Y.sub.2 (C.sub.2 O.sub.4).sub.3.9H.sub.2 O]. The Y.sub.2 (C.sub.2 O.sub.4).sub.3.9H.sub.2 O is ultimately removed from the solution and calcined to produce high purity Y.sub.2 O.sub.3.

  • Patent number: 4815650
Abstract: An apparatus for welding a section of pipeline onto an existing pipeline, the process including the steps of cutting away the section of damaged pipeline; providing a apparatus insertable within each end of the existing line for venting off gas within the line to create a gas free safety zone around the cut ends of the line; providing a flange for welding onto the ends of the line, the flange including a ring for sealingly engaging the face of a mating flange to effect an initial seal between the flanges while a weld bead is welded in place between the mating flanges. Following the welding, there is provided a test port in the wall of the flange for allowing air or fluid to be injected into the annular space between the metal sealed ring and the weld so as to test for any leak in the weld in place. Further, the sealing ring and test ports are in a position so that the exterior weld between the flanges may be X-rayed for any flaws within the weld.

  • Patent number: 4813170
Abstract: A sweepline roller-stopper connects a sweepline to a bottom trawl while stopping lateral movement of rollers along the sweepline. In a preferred embodiment, the roller-stopper includes a tubular body member having a large washer welded to an end and a tang welded to a side. A bolt passing through the body member fixes the position of the roller-stopper on the sweepline chain. The roller (or a spacer) abuts the washer, which resists the lateral forces exerted by the roller. In another embodiment, a ring having a tang freely rotates about the body member, while the body member is fixed to the sweepline chain. The roller-stopper is rugged, resists wear, and prevents the trawl net from becoming tangled with the sweepline.

  • Patent number: 4809402
Abstract: A high strength composite piano hinge having an integral structure and of particular utility in aircraft, formed of two similar half portions each comprising a flange and an integrally formed loop, the integral flange and loop comprised of composite tape, fabric or filament, formed of fiber reinforced heat curable resin such as graphite fibers impregnated with epoxy resin. The loop can be formed in one embodiment by wrapping the tape or fabric around a pin, with the flanges of the hinge secured together, as by curing the composite. Stitching can be provided across the flanges adjacent to the loop, to reinforce the loop, and prevent peeling of the composite laminates or plies. The thickness of the flanges can be equal to or smaller than the outer diameter of the loop. Additional composite material or laminates can be co-cured to the flanges.
