Abstract: A positive-positioning knob assembly comprises a knob body having a substantially hollow interior portion and a pinion member fixed against rotation relative to a panel, through which panel extends a shaft to be rotated by the knob assembly. Cooperating selectively interengageable and disengageable locking members are located on the pinion member and the hollow body interior respectively for alternatively permitting the body to rotate freely of the pinion member when the locking members are in a disengaged condition, and for locking the body non-rotatably relative to the pinion when the locking members are in an engaged condition. A resilient biasing member normally holds the locking members in the engaged condition to prevent rotation of the know body; however, the resilient biasing member is resiliently deformable for permitting the locking members to move to the disengaged condition to permit rotation of the knob body.
Abstract: A caster, for example for mounting the wheels of a baby carriage has a fixed bracket (14), a rotary yoke (15) rotatably supported by the fixed bracket (14), and a wheel (17) rotatably supported by the rotary yoke (15) with the aid of an axle (16). The rotary yoke (15) is formed an elongated opening (29) which extends horizontally at right angles to the axle (16). The axle (16) is held in the elongated opening (29) and is horizontally movable in the elongaged opening (29) under the influence of a guide opening or slot in an axle guide which intersects with the elongated opening.
Abstract: Caster wheel mount apparatus is disclosed, which comprises load carrying bearings and swivel bearings, each set of bearings is contained in its own race, and the bearings are protected from contamination by a skirt on the outer periphery of the load carrying bearings, and drainage of the races of the bearings is has should contaminants such as water or steam enter the bearing mount races. A suitable grease fitting is mounted on the load bearing race for lubrication as needed.
Abstract: A furniture hinge comprises, in combination: a first wing designed to be secured to the door of a piece of furniture and a second elongated-arm shaped wing designed to be applied to a base fixed to the shoulder of the piece of furniture, provision being made between the elongated-arm shaped wing and the base for regulating the position of the wing, depthwise and horizontally, and a securing screw passing through a slot in the arm to secure the wing to the base, wherein the securing screw screws onto a lever pivoted to the base.
Abstract: An indexable disposable insert having six contiguous edge faces having alternate acute and obtuse angled corners, cutting edges being formed at the junction of at least one of the hexagonal side faces and each of the six contiguous edge faces, the hexagonal side face forming the cutting edge having a chip breaker extending around the face, the chip breaker extending inwardly from each of the cutting edges, and being tapered in plan configuration behind each alternate cutting edge.
Abstract: A wheel caster for a baby carriage in which a caster body is rotatable about a holder attached to a leg of the carriage. A stopper pivots in the caster body and is engagable with a vertical groove in the holder to prevent further rotation. The stopper has bosses which fit into vertical grooves in opposed arms of the caster body. Interiorly facing partial collars are formed in the arms beneath the grooves. Tabs on the stopper are engaged beneath the collars so that the stopper can not be removed but can nonetheless be easily assembled.
Abstract: The automatically extensible and retractable wheel unit for mounting on a corner of a suitcase includes a housing with an aperture at the underside thereof, a bifurcated bracket pivotally supported on the housing, a wheel carried rotatably on the bracket for pivoting along with the bracket between a retracted position and an extended position, and a push-pull member pivotally supported on the housing and connected to a bracket by a C-shaped spring member. When the wheel is in the retracted position, a portion of the push-pull member extends out of the aperture so as to be contacted with the ground to push the wheel automatically out of the aperture as long as the suitcase is brought into a transported state. When the wheel is in the extended position, another portion of the push-pull member extends out of the aperture so as to be contacted with the ground to pull the wheel automatically back into the aperture as long as the suitcase being in a stationary state.
Abstract: A safety device for the bottom of a vertically-closing door, such as a sectional garage door. The device comprises an elongated member installed at the bottom of the door and parallel thereto, the member having a substantially horizontal bottom surface and an upper surface which slopes downwardly and outwardly from the door. The width of the member is sufficient to bridge over the neck of a human if inadvertently trapped beneath the door when closing. The safety device may be formed as part of the bottom of a door when manufactured, or may be a later addition to an existing door.
Abstract: A four-joint cabinet door hinge, especially for opening angles of more than 105.degree., in which the door-related hinge part is a stamped and drawn cup of thin sheet metal. The pivot pin at the cup end of the inner link is located in a recess of the wall of the cup and is held in the recess by a tongue formed from material of the wall.
Abstract: A lift-off vehicle door hinge is formed of a pair of interleaved stampings having pivot pins received in bearings in relatively pivotally movable parts of the stampings and an abutment tab is formed as one of the stampings to prevent lift-off separation when the stampings are arranged in a position effecting closure of the vehicle door.
Abstract: A mounting arrangement for a vehicle door is provided in which one of two vertically spaced hinges is the type that permits separation of the part connected to the vehicle body from the type connected to the door through lifting one with respect to the other and the other is a conventional hinge fixed to the body through a single fastener.
Abstract: Disclosed is a safety handle for turning a hand control wheel. The handle is engaged by exerting constant axial pressure on the handle in a swung-out position, which enables the hand control wheel to be turned. Upon release of the handle, it automatically swings back to the retracted position into the hand control wheel. The handle is locked in the wheel-turning position by way of a shoulder/detent engagement.
Abstract: A door closer is described in which transmission ratios which change in dependence on the closing angle can be realized by eccentric toothed elements. The toothed elements can have different profile offsets, moduli and flank angles along their respective pitch curves.

Abstract: A geared hinge is formed by a pair of intermeshed geared hinge members which are maintained in mesh by a connector member. When the hinge members are in one position there are longitudinal recesses which are diminished in volume when the hinge members are in an alternate position. Deposits of resilient rubber-like material are inserted into the open recesses. These deposits are compressed when the hinge members are moved toward the alternate position. The resistance to compression imparts a self-closing action to the hinge.
Abstract: A wheel bracket assembly includes two separate, platelike bracket parts which each have a noncircular opening therein and are disposed on opposite sides of a wheel in angular alignment. The ends of the axle for the wheel extend through the noncircular openings and the bracket parts are fixed against axial and rotational movement with respect to the axle. A method of making the wheel bracket assembly includes the steps of stamping out from at least one metal plate the two bracket parts which are substantially mirror images of each other and have the noncircular opening therethrough, placing the bracket parts in angular alignment on opposite sides of the wheel so that the ends of the axle extend through the noncircular openings, and upsetting each end of the axle to retain the bracket parts in place and so that the material of the axle flows to fill the noncircular openings in the bracket parts and thereby prevent relative rotation of the bracket parts.
Abstract: This invention relates to a device ensuring automatic closure of pivoting doors and for holding them in open position. The device includes a fixed box mounted on the door (or frame) and supporting a pivoting arm subjected to the action of a return element. A fixed slide rail is mounted on the frame and a connecting element is positioned between the pivoting arm and the slide rail. The connection between the pivoting arm and the slide rail is obtained by way of a sliding rod, retractable inside the arm. The rod is adapted to be blocked automatically when it projects from the arm by a determined length corresponding to a given degree of opening of the door.
