  • Patent number: 4749204
Abstract: A cart wheel structure having a pair of wheels rotatably mounted to opposite ends of an axle rod. The axle rod is mounted to a base portion of a cart by a pair of fabricated brackets having an upstanding swivel post adapted to be received in swivel cavities provided on the cart base portion. The swivel cavities are adapted to receive the swivel post of conventional swivel caster whereby the cart may be provided with caster and non-caster wheels as desired. The cooperation between the axle rod and brackets provides an accurate maintained disposition of the wheels carried on the opposite distal ends of the axle rod.

  • Patent number: 4747183
Abstract: A spring hinge for eyeglasses in which each bow can be swung out against spring force about a fulcrum spaced from the hinge axis so that the bow will resiliently bear on the temples of the wearer. A spring is secured on a plunger rod between a plunger head at one end of the rod and a stop ring, which is slidably mounted on the rod. The plunger is contained in and releasably locked to a receptacle which is provided on the bow. The plunger rod is connected to a bow-side bearing eye. Owing to that arrangement, the bow-side hinge member and the parts connected to it can be assembled and taken apart by access to only one end of the receptacle.

  • Patent number: 4747180
Abstract: A castor has a brake rod (20;120;220) extending through a hollow stem (10) on which a body (4) carrying a pair of castor wheels (2) is rotatably mounted. The brake rod is moveable substantially vertically between an inoperative position and a braking position in which its lower end engages the surface on which the wheel (2) rest. Opposition to braking movement can be provided by a return spring (39;222) or by a spring arm (122). Movement of the brake rod can be effected by a cam (140) acting on the spring arm (122) or by a cam (40;240) acting on a lever (35;230) engaging the upper end of the brake rod. The brake rod (10) can be arranged to have an intermediate position in which rotation of the castor body (4) is prevented.

  • Patent number: 4744501
Abstract: A method and apparatus for preventing a sag of a panel, in which plate to be attached to a skeleton is located on the skeleton supported by a support means, both end parts of the plate are gripped by grasp electrodes of a resistance heating device, current is caused to flow through the plate by the grasp electrodes so as to preheat the plate to a predetermined temperature and to thermally expand it, the plate is welded to the skeleton by a welding machine, and a residual tensile stress is developed in the plate by the thermal shrinkage deformation attendant upon cooling of the plate after the welding. In the case where the plate has a cut-away part, electric conduction members for short-circuiting the cut-away part are interposed in this part so as to form electric conduction paths for the preheating of the plate.

  • Patent number: 4741232
Abstract: An apparatus for use in machining a workpiece includes a housing (102) which is operable between a closed condition enclosing a chuck (101) and an open condition. When the housing (102) is in the open condition, an opening (117) extends across the top of the housing and down opposite sides of the housing to provide access to the chuck (101) from both sides of the housing. A workpiece transfer assembly (200) has a downwardly extending structure (204) which is movable along a path (A) extending through the housing (102) when the housing is in the open condition. This enables the transfer structure (200) to move unfinished workpieces (W) to the chuck (101) from one side of the housing and to move finished workpieces from the chuck to the opposite side of the housing. The transfer structure is supported on tracks (201) which extend above the housing.

  • Patent number: 4739536
Abstract: A handle for tools, specifically for screwdrivers, is disclosed. The handle consists of two materials of different hardness, of which the harder material supporting the tool is incompressible under the forces occurring at operational load, whereas the other material permits slight elastic deformations under forces of load. In order to obtain a hand-sympathetic design which nevertheless transmits high torques, the two gripping zones of softer material are situated adjacent to a gripping zone of harder material located between them.

  • Patent number: 4733435
Abstract: A traverse rod assembly comprising telescopically adjustable inner and outer rods of the type having a downwardly opening slot at the bottom of the rods. The inner and outer rods each have forward and rear guide rails along opposite sides of the slot and rolled or hemmed upper edges disposed at substantially the same level for supporting drapery carriers for movement along the slot in the inner and outer rods. The rails on the inner rod are provided with lower guide portions arranged to engage and laterally guide the carriers during movement along the inner rod. The inner and outer rods are formed with upper and lower reentrant angles in the top and bottom that define upwardly and downwardly opening channels adjacent the rear of the rod so that the rod can be supported by an intermediate support bracket that is concealed from view from the front of the rod.

  • Patent number: 4731899
Abstract: The present invention is related to a rotary roller set directional control device, particularly to a rotary roller set device, which is characterized by a novel design wherein two opposite longitudinal positioning slots are positioned at the upper section of a pivotal shaft socket, a pivotal supporting arm with a U-shaped rocker of which the front end is provided with a suitable catch key extended downward. The rocker may swing downward to assemble with the upper section of pivotal shaft socket and insert the catch key in the positioning slot. An annular flange on the top edge of pivotal shaft socket is designed to decrease the contact area between the pivotal supporting arm and the pivotal shaft socket when rotating the pivotal supporting arm to change the catch direction of U-shaped rocker so as to lower the frictional resistance.

  • Patent number: 4729697
Abstract: A milling cutter comprises a cutter body having at least one insert blade station. At least one insert blade is operably connected with the cutter body at the insert blade station. The insert blade has opposite side faces, and a plurality of peripheral edge faces, with at least one cutting edge formed at the intersection of one side face and one edge face. The insert blade is oriented in the cutter body such that the one edge face defines a tooth face against which a workpiece impinges during cutting, and the one side face defines a clearance space between the insert blade and the workpiece. The one side face is convex in shape to reduce the clearance space for improved cutting efficiency and blade longevity, without causing undesirable contact between the other portions of the insert blade and the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 4724575
Abstract: A slideably and rotatably mounted roller member performs a precision take up reel function in the environment of a track mounted, drawable, pleated window covering. The roller member slides along an axis coincident with its axis of rotation as it rotates so that cord being wound therearound attendant its rotation is taken up in the absence of overlapping. One end of the roller member is provided with a centrally bored and threaded plug that screw threadedly engages a fixed position screw member; as the roller member rotates, the engagement of the screw member and the bore drives the plug and hence the roller member in an axial direction. The slideable mount of the roller member is provided in the form of a base member which is slideably received within the roller member housing.
