  • Patent number: 4757460
Abstract: A broadband communications network includes a plurality of stations interconnected through selected forward and reverse channels by a network translator. Each station continuously monitors the forward channel for detecting the presence or absence of a forward channel carrier. A given station is allowed to transmit a data packet as modulation of the reverse channel carrier only after the expiration of a predetermined time interval during which no carrier is detected on the forward channel. By establishing the predetermined time interval for each respective station in inverse relation to the distance of the station from the network translator, a synchronized transmission time base as well as equalized station access is achieved for improving network performance.

  • Patent number: 4757174
Abstract: The invention is a method for forming package blanks incorporating selectively located microwave absorbing areas for crisping and/or browning one or more surfaces of a packaged product. Successive lengths of an extended web of thin, microwave transparent film are transported past means for depositing a thin layer of microwave energy absorbing material on one side of the film while masking selected areas of the film web by masks placed adjacent the film surface on which the microwave absorbing layer is deposited. No microwave absorbing material is deposited in the selected masked areas. Successive lengths of the resulting film are laminated onto an extended web of flexible dielectric packaging material with the microwave absorbing layer sandwiched between the film and the flexible dielectric packaging material. Thereafter, successive lengths of the resulting laminated web are fed through a die cutting machine that cuts one or more package blanks from the laminated web.

  • Patent number: 4755638
Abstract: There is provided a hydraulic pressure operated electrical switch having a spring biased piston which is movable by the force of the hydraulic pressure of the fluid to be sensed to activate a microswitch. The pressure required to move the piston can be altered by adjusting the force produced by the spring acting on the piston. An operating pressure differential is provided by a diaphragm which operates to move the piston by reason of the hydraulic pressure exerted thereon. The diaphragm has a spring rate and produces a force in conjunction with the spring bias against the piston when the piston is moved as a result of the hydraulic pressure overcoming the spring bias. The spring rate of the diaphragm is affected by the amount of hydraulic pressure exerted thereon so that, as a result of adjusting the operating pressure of the switch, the operating differential pressure is altered.

  • Patent number: 4754363
Abstract: In a metal-encapsulated gas-insulated high-voltage installation with an overvoltage arrester which is arranged in a separate encapsulation and is connected via a gastight feedthrough to the conductor of the high-voltage installation, fault arcs can lead to heavy stresses of the overvoltage arrester by dynamic forces due to overloading. In order to prevent this, there are provided in the connection between the feedthrough and the overvoltage arrester two electrode-shaped support bodies, between which a flexible current-carrying ribbon is arranged. The cross section of the current-carrying ribbon is designed so that it melts at currents of a magnitude which is equal to or larger than that required for the pressure relief of the overvoltage arrester after the arc has been blown out of the arresting housing. Thereby, the overvoltage arrester and the feedthrough are mechanically decoupled.
