Abstract: Disclosed herein are system, method, and computer program product embodiments for virtual machine (VM) backup from a storage snapshot. An embodiment operates by receiving selective backup parameters including a VM to backup and then creating a VM snapshot associated with the VM. Next, an offset table associated with a virtual disk of the VM stored on a storage is retrieved. The embodiment further includes generating a storage snapshot and deleting the VM snapshot and then promoting the storage snapshot to a new logical unit number. The promoted storage snapshot is then mounted to the backups server. The virtual disk data is backed up to a backup storage using the offset table from the storage snapshot. The storage snapshot is dismounted from the backup server and deleted from the storage.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a method, device, and system for processing a request in a multi-core system. The method comprises steps of: receiving a request for data by a filter from a requesting unit; comparing an indicator indicative of a logical partition in the request with an indicator indicative of the logical partition in a record of the filter; searching in a unit where the filter is located based on the request and returning a search result to the requesting unit if a comparison result matches; and returning a NONE response to the requesting unit from the filter if the comparison result does not match.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, a memory management device includes a history management unit, an address translation table, an address management unit, and a data management unit. The history management unit manages an access history for data stored in a nonvolatile semiconductor memory. The address translation table includes a translation table of a logical address and a physical address corresponding to the data. The address management unit specifies, based on the access history, second data to be accessed after access to first data being stored in the nonvolatile semiconductor memory, and registers a second physical address corresponding to the second data in the address translation table in association with a first logical address corresponding to the first data. The data management unit reads out the second data from the nonvolatile semiconductor memory to a buffer.
Abstract: Exposing a proprietary image backup to a hypervisor as a disk file that is bootable by the hypervisor. In one example embodiment, a method of exposing a proprietary image backup to a hypervisor as a disk file that is bootable by the hypervisor may include identifying the proprietary image backup having a proprietary format and storing an operating system, creating a plugin file corresponding to the proprietary image backup, reconfiguring the operating system to cause the operating system to be bootable when using hardware emulated by the hypervisor, gathering operating system data from the proprietary image backup, reformatting, using a filter module, the operating system data into a native format of the hypervisor, booting the operating system in a virtual machine of the hypervisor, and storing the reformatted operating system data in a replacement disk file formatted in the native format of the hypervisor.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for logical block address (“LBA) bitmap usage for a system having non-volatile memory (“NVM”). A bitmap can be stored in volatile memory of the system, where the bitmap can store the mapping statuses of one or more logical addresses. By using the bitmap, the system can determine the mapping status of a LBA without having to access the NVM. In addition, the system can update the mapping status of a LBA with minimal NVM accesses. By reducing the number of NVM accesses, the system can avoid triggering a garbage collection process, which can improve overall system performance.

Abstract: Methods and systems to disperse and collate I/O from virtual machines (VMs) among a plurality of near line controllers for parallelization of I/O's (parallel reads and parallel writes) and for providing redundancy for stored VM data is disclosed.
Abstract: In a method for storing packets in a network device, a memory space spanning a plurality of external memory devices is partitioned into a plurality of multi-buffers. Each multi-buffer spans multiple memory devices in the plurality of external memory devices. Each multi-buffer is partitioned into a plurality of buffer chunks and the plurality of buffer chunks are distributed among the multiple memory devices Further, a packet is divided into one or more packet chunks including at least a first packet chunk. The one or more packet chunks are stored in one or more consecutive buffer chunks of at least a first multi-buffer of the plurality of multi-buffers.
Abstract: A backup system override may be specified to allow a backup system to access a backup created on an old storage device. For example, an archival backup may be accessed long after the storage device that created the backup has been decommissioned. The file history information in the backup may specify a storage device no longer accessible by the backup system. An override in the backup system allows the backup system to access the backup with the file history information through a different storage device than the storage device that created the backup. The different storage device may have a different name and/or be of a different type than the original storage device that created the backup. The override may also allow access to command scripts and links in the backup.
Abstract: A method, system and computer readable medium that identify orphan storage and release the orphaned storage before application or system outages can result. More specifically, in certain embodiments, a method, system and computer readable medium periodically scan through common memory storage and identifies those areas that are no longer associated with a running task or have been allocated for longer than a running task with a matching task address. These areas are then identified as potentially orphaned storage locations.

Abstract: An integrated memory system with a spiral cache responds to requests for values at a first external interface coupled to a particular storage location in the cache in a time period determined by the proximity of the requested values to the particular storage location. The cache supports multiple outstanding in-flight requests directed to the same address using an issue table that tracks multiple outstanding requests and control logic that applies the multiple requests to the same address in the order received by the cache memory. The cache also includes a backing store request table that tracks push-back write operations issued from the cache memory when the cache memory is full and a new value is provided from the external interface, and the control logic to prevent multiple copies of the same value from being loaded into the cache or a copy being loaded before a pending push-back has been completed.

Abstract: A method for managing read requests, the method may include receiving from a requesting entity a read request for reading an information unit stored in a storage system; determining by a control entity of the storage system whether the information unit is cached in a cache memory of the storage system and whether at least a predetermined number of disk drives of the storage system are currently overloaded; introducing a delay to a response to the read request thereby increasing a time difference between a time of the receiving of the read request and a time of a provision of the information unit to the requesting entity, if it is determined that the information unit is not cached in the cache memory and that the at least predetermined number of disk drives of the storage system are currently overloaded; and providing the information unit to the requesting entity.
Abstract: Hash value comparison during crash-tolerant incremental change tracking between backups of a source storage. In one example embodiment, a method includes assigning each block in a source storage into one of multiple zones, creating a nonvolatile zone map, tracking each of the zones that is changed between a first point in time and a second point in time, identifying, as potentially changed zone blocks, the blocks in the source storage assigned to any zone marked as changed in the nonvolatile zone map, identifying, as potentially outdated backup blocks, the most recently backed-up blocks in one or more prior backups that correspond to the potentially changed zone blocks, calculating source hash values of the potentially changed zone blocks, calculating backup hash values of the potentially outdated backup blocks, and comparing the source hash values to the backup hash values to determine which blocks in the source storage actually changed.
Abstract: A system including a storage device and a controller. The storage device is configured to store a map. The map relates (i) a first portion of a memory to a first order of first dimensions, and (ii) a second portion of the memory to a second order of second dimensions. The first portion of the memory and the second portion of the memory are non-overlapping. Each of the first dimensions and each of the second dimensions has corresponding memory cells in the memory. The controller is configured to control access to the first portion of the memory according to the first order of first dimensions while controlling access to the second portion of the memory according to the second order of the second dimensions.
