Abstract: A system and method for managing and compacting electronic mail messages to preserve storage space on a computer and to enhance the efficiency of an electronic mail application. A user or electronic mail system administrator may define a screening criteria to identify messages to be compacted according to compacting procedures. Compacting procedures may include compressing the message and attachments, detaching the attachments from the message and inserting references or pointers in place of the attachments in the message.

Abstract: A system, method and computer program product are provided. In use, an electronic mail message is identified such that at least one of a date and a time associated with the electronic mail message may be corrected.

Abstract: An email review tool gives users a simple, quick, and safe method of initiating review of an email document. The email review tool may provide a window to a user which allows the user to select another person to review the email or skip the review process and send the email directly to the recipients. Transmission of the email is thus deferred until the email has been reviewed.

Abstract: A method, computer readable medium, user component, and system for sharing media object in a network environment are disclosed. A network manager may determine a similarity metric between users of the environment, between media objects, and/or between a user and media objects. Based upon the similarity metric, the network manager may share media objects with another user if the similarity metric exceeds a predetermined value or is more similar than other retrieved media objects. A user component may also provide a network map manager to display a network map, and may provide a tailored view manager to display a web log associated with at least one of the user icons displayed in the network map.

Abstract: A generic algorithm for analysis of resource metrics. A threshold is calculated in a stack tier policy for the performance state of a metric in a virtualized process collection (VPC). Responsive to determining that the metric is a critical metric, a weighted average of all metrics in the VPC is determined. Responsive to determining that the weighted average exceeds the threshold in the stack tier policy, if the value of the metric is determined to be higher than values for all recorded metrics, the value of the metric is stored as a highest value. A weighted average performance state of all metrics is calculated as the weight property of the performance metric divided by the weight factor total. Responsive to determining that the highest value is higher than the weighted average performance state of all metrics, the highest value is used as the performance state of the VPC.

A best-value scenario of segmentation, dispersion, assemblage, and routing of electronic data is assessed to fulfill the request. The best-value scenario maximizes profitability for the service provider. The communications service is provided to fulfill the request according to the best-value scenario.

Abstract: Under the present invention, a client-based editor is launched (e.g., from a web server or the like) within a client interface such as a browser. Upon being launched, initial configuration parameters are passed from a portal server to the editor. The present invention also provides a “communications tunnel” between the editor and the portal server in the form of a portlet interface on the web server. This is so that any characteristics expressed by the portal server (e.g., changes to the initial configuration parameters) can be pushed to the editor. Moreover, the portlet interface allows the editor to query the portal server to obtain any needed services (e.g. a spreadsheet computation).

A selection of a processing function associated with an application is received via the user interface. A processing function on-demand (PFOD) request is transmitted via a network connection to request the selected processing function. As a response to the PFOD request, a processing function on-demand (PFOD) delivery including the selected processing function is sent. When the PFOD delivery is received, the selected processing function is utilized at the user site.

Abstract: Disclosed is a scalable, hierarchical, distributed network architecture and processes for the delivery of high-performance, end-to-end online multimedia services, including Internet services such as World Wide Web access. The network architecture connects a high-speed private backbone to multiple network access points of the Internet, to a network operation center, to a back office system, and to multiple regional servers in regional data centers. Each of the regional servers connects to several caching servers in modified head-ends, which in turn connect via fiber optics to many neighborhood nodes. Finally, each node connects via coaxial cable to multiple end-user systems. The processes include those for replicating and caching frequently-accessed content, and multicasting content customized per region or locality.

Abstract: A user's set top box (STB), or other client, executes a shell and has an application program interface (API) by which certain features of the client can be controlled. The client is in communication with a walled garden proxy server (WGPS), which controls access to a walled garden. The walled garden contains links to one or more servers providing network-based services. The client sends a request to the WGPS to access a service provided by a site in the garden. To provide the service, the site sends the client a message containing code calling a function in the API. The WGPS traps the message from the site and looks up the site in a table to determine the access control list (ACL) for the site. The ACL is a bit-map that specifies which functions of the client's API can be invoked by code from the site. The WGPS includes the ACL in the header of the hypertext transport protocol (HTTP) message to the client. The shell receives the message and extracts the ACL.

Abstract: A system, method and computer program product for use in a server cluster having plural server nodes implementing a server tier in a client-server computing architecture in order to determine which of two or more partitioned server subgroups has a quorum. A determination is made of relative priorities of the subgroups and a quorum is awarded to the subgroup having a highest relative priority. The relative priorities are determined by policy rules that evaluate comparative server node application state information. The server node application state information may include one or more of client connectivity, application priority, resource connectivity, processing capability, memory availability, and input/output resource availability, etc. The policy rules evaluate the application state information for each subgroup and can assign different weights to different types of application state information. An interface may be provided for receiving policy rules specified by a cluster application.

Abstract: The disclosure details the implementation of a tunneling client access point (TCAP) that is a highly secure, portable, power efficient storage and data processing mechanism. The TCAP “tunnels” data through an access terminal's (AT) input/output facilities. In one embodiment, the TCAP has no user input or output peripherals. The TCAP connects to an access terminal and a user employs the AT's user input peripherals for input, and views the TCAPs activities on the AT's display. This enables the user to observe data stored on the TCAP without it being resident on the AT, which can be useful to maintain higher levels of data security. Also, the TCAP may tunnel data through an AT across a communications network to access remote servers. The disclosure teaches how to allow users to employ traditional large user interfaces that users are already comfortable with. The disclosure, also, teaches a plug-n-play virtual private network (VPN).

Abstract: The invention provides a method and system for handling a session request of a user equipment in a network comprising at least one supporting entity, in particular in a case where the user equipment is not allowed to initiate other session apart from specific session type. At least one of the supporting entities or another control entity is adapted to check whether or not the initiated session is actually continued as a session of the specific type. The session is forcibly terminated when detecting that it is not continued as such a session. A timer may be started when the user equipment attaches to the network for requesting a session, and the user equipment is detached from the network when not continuing with a session of the specific type within a defined time after attach.

Abstract: A system and method for storing IM text in a repository where it can be searched by topic or participant based filters is disclosed. The repository may be a centralized database on the server side or it may be distributed in the client environment. The system comprises an IM Topic (IMT) program, an IM Filter (IMF) program, an IM save program (IMS), and an IM automatic alert (IMAL) program. The IMT program assigns topic tags to turns and topic shifts in the IM conversation. The IMF program searches the repository based on user selection of filters as well as full text search. There may be any number of topic tags. The IMS program automatically scans IM transcripts for topic tags and identifiers and saves transcripts or transcript segments that match pre-selected topic tags or identifiers to the repository.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for facilitating communication between users. The method involves capturing a dialogue between the users; analyzing the dialogue to determine a usage pattern; selecting a communication tool, based on the usage pattern, that is suitable for a communication subsequent to the dialogue; informing the plurality of users of the communication tool suitable for the communication subsequent to the dialogue; and generating a summary of the communication subsequent to the dialogue.
