  • Patent number: 7814168
Abstract: A unit-to-unit data exchange system preventing an unfair exchange without increasing communications cost or a load on a server. A unit (11a) exchanges data with a unit (11b). An exchange completion data keeping device keeps exchange completion data that is necessary for each unit (11a and 11b) to reproduce the obtained data after the data exchange is completed. The exchange completion data keeping device transmits the exchange completion data obtained from the unit (11b) to the unit (11a) and transmits the exchange completion data obtained from the unit (11a) to the unit (11b) only when the unit (11a) and the unit (11b) have successfully received data of interest.

  • Patent number: 7809837
Abstract: A web services system enables web servers to serve pages that utilize remote portlets. A consumer system serves pages that utilize remote portlets stored on one or more producer systems. An improved user interface enables a user to select a portlet from a page on a producer system and drag the portlet to a page on a consumer system. This action causes configuration information for the portlet to be transferred to the consumer system, which can then utilize the portlet as a remote portlet. When a user accesses a page utilizing a remote portlet, the consumer system contacts the producer system, obtains content for the page and presents the page to the user.

Abstract: A method for operating a host layer of a distributed computing system on a wide area network includes attaching an autonomous agent to a client-requested carrier, such as web content. The method includes the steps of receiving a request for specified content from a client node via the wide area network, and sending the content and an embedded agent to the client via the wide area network. The agent has program instructions configured to execute autonomously on the client node to perform a processing function. The processing function is configured to operate on raw data to produce process data, according to instructions determined by a solution algorithm of the distributed computing system. The method further includes sending the raw data to the client node and receiving the process data from the client node as it is processed by the agent. The host layer may comprise a web server hosting a web site containing consumer-oriented web pages, and the carrier may comprise an HTML page containing user content.

  • Patent number: 7779162
Abstract: Methods and systems provide an asymmetric Ethernet service. An Ethernet network transports Ethernet frames over an asymmetric connection to a point of service for a subscriber located remotely from the Ethernet network, and the Ethernet connection is asymmetric in that the effective data transfer rates for uploading and downloading of data over the Ethernet connection are different. The subscriber may then have Ethernet capable network devices such as routers and computers linked to the point of service so that data transfer between the network devices of the subscriber and the Ethernet network occurs over the asymmetric Ethernet connection. The Ethernet network allows for communication between the network devices of the subscriber and any desired Ethernet network resources, such as network resources located on the Ethernet network or resources of downstream networks such as the global Internet that are available through the Ethernet network.

  • Patent number: 7761594
Abstract: A method and apparatus for forwarding requests in a cache hierarchy based on user-defined forwarding rules are described. A proxy cache on a network provides a user interface that enables a user to define a set of forwarding rules for controlling the forwarding of content requests within a cache hierarchy. When the proxy cache receives a content request from a client and the request produces a cache miss, the proxy cache examines the rules sequentially two determine whether any of the user-defined rules applies to the request. If a rule is found to apply, the proxy cache identifies one or more forwarding destinations from the rule and determines the availability of the destinations. The proxy cache then forwards the request to an available destination according to the applicable rule.
