  • Patent number: 10432998
Abstract: Embodiments described herein provide various techniques for backing up and restoring data and programs at television receiver devices. In some embodiments, various types of data stored locally by television receiver devices may be backed up by uploading the data to a television provider server, cloud-based storage system, and/or other remote storage locations. In the event of a device failure, or other rebuilt or reinstallation process at the television receiver, a receiver set-up process may be implemented to retrieve the receiver backup data from the backup server, and to initiate various set-up processes in which the replacement receiver may use the backup data to implement the various configuration preferences and settings on the new device, re-create the DVR timers, establish new network connections, configure the home device/appliance settings, and the like, automatically based on the receiver backup data.

  • Patent number: 10430664
Abstract: A system provides automated editing of a media file. Frames of a media file are extracted and feature vectors are generated based thereon. The feature vectors are clustered according to similarity of the content of the feature vectors and the temporal proximity of frames corresponding to the feature vectors in the media file. Clusters are ranked and selected according to the ranking. Segments of the media file corresponding to the selected clusters are combined into a highlight video. Hotspots in a media file may be identified in a media file by detecting local maxima in a measure of movement of pixels between frames. Clusters may be ranked and selected according to an iterative algorithm that identifies clusters that are the most different from an average of the feature vectors and from other selected clusters.

  • Patent number: 10424340
Abstract: There is provided a system and method for latency compensation in a 360° VR video editing system. One embodiment involves a determination of the latency delay between the computer that stores and edits the video and a VR headset worn by the user. This delay might be caused by the need to read, prepare, and wirelessly transmit each video frame to the headset. The determined latency delay is used within the computer to adjust the timeline location of editing commands issued by the user so that they match the timeline locations seen by the user within the headset. This is done so that the user's edit commands are applied within the computer at the same video frame the user was viewing within the VR headset when the command was issued. In some embodiments the display device of the VR headset might be a smart phone.

  • Patent number: 10375452
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for thumbnail generation. In one embodiment, a thumbnail stream is generated where one or more bits are assigned to key frames and minimizes the number of bits assigned to delta frames. Each key frame may be used to extract a still image for use in thumbnails during trick mode operation (e.g., fast forward, rewind, pause, or random seek operation). When the encoded video file is given to a Just in Time Packager (JITP), the JITP extracts the image files (via the key frames). Information regarding how to reference these files is stored in generated manifest file and may be reformatted by the JITP to fit the needs of the current product. In a variant, the JITP reformats the image files extracted from the encoded video for operation on a number of devices.

  • Patent number: 10325628
Abstract: Embodiments disclosed herein enable a user to generate an audio-visual project. Certain embodiments enable a user to use one of a plurality of predefined templates to generate a project easily and quickly. Other embodiments enable a user to generate a custom project that gives more control to the user, compared to if the user selected one of the predefined templates. Each project includes one or more segments, which may be specified by a user directly, or may be specified by the template selected by the user. An effect is applied to each segment, wherein the effect specifies how many video and audio slots are included in the segment, if any, and can specify one or more other properties of the segment. Projects generated using embodiments disclosed herein can be saved and shared with other users.

  • Patent number: 10289916
Abstract: In accordance with an embodiment, a method is disclosed for detecting action in a video clip. An audio clip is extracted from the video clip. The audio clip is converted to an auditory spectrogram. The auditory spectrogram is used to construct a self-similarity matrix. The self-similarity matrix is then used to calculate a novelty curve. The clip is then segmented into segments according to peaks in the novelty curve. Each of segments is scored, and then classified as an action clip if the score is above or below a predetermined threshold. Related methods for folding a digitized song into a shorter version of itself and for sequencing a set of user-supplied video and photo clips to a user-supplied song are further disclosed.

  • Patent number: 10276213
Abstract: Systems and methods disclosed herein provide automatic and intelligent video sorting in the context of creating video compositions. A computing device sorts a media bin of videos in the user's work area based on similarity to the videos included in the video composition being created. When a user selects or includes a particular video on the composition's timeline, the video is compared against the entire video collection to change the display of videos in the media bin. In one example, videos that have similar tags to a selected video are prioritized at the top. Only a subset of frames of each of the videos are used to use to identify video tags. Intelligently selecting tags using a subset of frames from each video rather than using all frames enables more efficient and accurate tagging of videos, which facilitates quicker and more accurate comparison of video similarities.

  • Patent number: 10264249
Abstract: A camera calibration method for calibrating at least one camera of a vehicle includes providing a target area for a vehicle to be positioned at, with the vehicle having a forward camera, a rearward camera and opposite side cameras. When the vehicle is positioned at the target area, a target is electronically generated at an area that is encompassed by the field of view of one of the cameras or at an overlapping portion of the fields of view of two of the cameras of the vehicle. Image data is captured by the two cameras that is representative of the generated target. Image data captured by the two cameras is processed to detect the target in the fields of view of the two cameras. At least one of the two cameras is calibrated responsive to detection of the target.

  • Patent number: 10250843
Abstract: An imaging unit captures a moving image containing a plurality of images in a time-series order. A position acquisition unit acquires positions at which the plurality of images are captured. An offset calculation unit calculates, as an offset, a difference between a reference value that is any of the positions at which the plurality of images are captured and each of the positions to associate the offset with the image whose position is acquired. A metadata generation unit generates, as moving image metadata that accompanies the moving image, metadata containing the reference value and generates, as image metadata that accompanies the image corresponding to the offset, metadata containing the offset, for each of the acquired positions.
