  • Patent number: 4376966
Abstract: A series of electric lamps spaced along the interior of a flexible vinyl tube, such lamps being connected in electric parallel with each other by a pair of insulated conductors that exit from the tube through an opening adjacent one end of the tube. A thermoplastic sealant having a vinyl content is applied by a special procedure into each of the ends of the tube to seal closed such ends of the tube as well as the point of egress of the conductors. The tube is disposed in a channel-like mounting bracket having a restricted entrance through which the tube is viewable. A special procedure is provided for connecting uninsulated leads of the lamps to insulated parallel conductors such that no additional insulation is required.

  • Patent number: 4371450
Abstract: The corrosion of iron and steel surfaces by an aqueous alkanolamine conditioning solution used to remove CO.sub.2 from a gas stream is effectively inhibited by a combination of a vanadium containing ion and a soluble cobalt salt. This system allows the use of higher amine concentrations which in turn allows a higher carbon dioxide loading with low corrosion thereby improving the energy efficiency of the gas sweetening process.

  • Patent number: 4367159
Abstract: A positive electrode for a secondary electrochemical cell wherein an electrically conductive current collector is in electrical contact with a particulate mixture of gray cast iron and an alkali metal sulfide and an electrolyte including alkali metal halides or alkaline earth metal halides. Also present may be a transition metal sulfide and graphite flakes from the conversion of gray cast iron to iron sulfide. Also disclosed is a method of distributing carbon flakes in a cell wherein there is formed an electrochemical cell of a positive electrode structure of the type described and a suitable electrolyte and a second electrode containing a material capable of alloying with alkali metal ions. The cell is connected to a source of electrical potential to electrochemically convert gray cast iron to an iron sulfide and uniformly to distribute carbon flakes formerly in the gray cast iron throughout the positive electrode while forming an alkali metal alloy in the negative electrode.

  • Patent number: 4364108
Abstract: A luminaire includes a light source mounted within a housing having an opening through which light from the source is distributed. The opening also provides access to the interior of the housing for maintenance of the light source and is closed by a cover which is at least partially translucent and which is hinged to the housing at one end and provided with a pair of spring loaded pins projecting from the sides thereof at the other end to hold the cover in closed position or to be retracted by means of clips to open the cover. The protection of the light source afforded by the housing is improved by an elongated rigid member adapted to extend between the clips of the pins to prevent the pins from being retracted. The clips include coaxial channels and the rigid member includes a reduced portion at one end and a retractable finger at the other end, both of which are dimensioned to be received in such channels.

  • Patent number: 4364101
Abstract: Light bulbs of a multi chamber vehicle lamp are inserted into a lamp carrier made of sheet metal. Conductor strips are stamped out of the sheet metal for current conduction. The lamp carrier forms a common mass connection for all light bulbs. The contacting to the respective center pole of the light bulbs is effected directly by the free end portion of the conductor strip which is stamped out from a region of the lamp carrier remote from the light bulb socket. By a deformation of the conductor strip, the end portion is placed on the center axis of the opening accommodating the light bulb, and engages the center pole of the light bulb under pretension.

  • Patent number: 4360859
Abstract: A boat light includes a shield recessed within the hull of a vessel. A conventional sealed beam head-lamp unit seats in an exteriorly spherically shaped lamp unit retaining member formed of a resiliently flexible soft material such as rubber. The retaining member and shield have mating spherically shaped surfaces so that the retaining member can be angularly adjusted, within a pre-determined, limited range, to any of various selected positions within the shield, thus to correspondingly adjust and hence correctly aim, the head-lamp unit. The retaining member is quickly and firmly secured, in each position to which it is adjusted, through the provision of a soft rubber mounting ring, which fits over the inner end of the shield, and is spherically shaped interiorly thereof, to form a ball-and-socket mounting cooperating with the shield and the retaining member.
