  • Patent number: 4609055
Abstract: A system is disclosed for minimizing the transmission of vibrations from a vibratory source through a pair of shafts to a handle mounted transversely to the shafts. The handle is mounted to the shafts through resilient, elastomeric, hourglass-shaped shock absorbers. The mass of the handle and the spring stiffness of the shock absorbers are selected to provide the handle with a characteristic frequency (F.sub.c) such that F.sub.s >.sqroot.2 F.sub.c. To limit axial deflection of the shock absorbers when transverse forces are applied to the handle, each of the elastomeric elements is mounted between and inside a respective pair of nested cups having their open ends facing one another, one cup of each pair being connected to the handle and the other cup of each pair being connected to a shaft.

  • Patent number: 4609312
Abstract: An apparatus for in-situ crankshaft reconditioning includes a bracket connectable to the crank webs of crankshafts of a variety of sizes and configurations. The bracket includes a set of adjustably spaced, two contact point corners which are in turn connected to a set of four spaced vertical posts. The elevation of the corners with respect to the posts is adjustable. A pair of axially spaced apart annular rings are slideably connectable to the vertical posts so that their position in a direction transverse to the length of the crankshaft may be adjusted. A pair of orbital wheels are mounted on the annular rings and the precise positioning of the wheels with respect to the rings is manually adjustable through cam members. A mounting bracket carrying a machining head rotates with the wheels. The position of the machining head is adjustable in at least two dimensions with respect to the position of the orbital wheels.

  • Patent number: 4607558
Abstract: This machine is more particularly designed to make a series of slits across the external surface of a tire rethread band. The band is moved step-by-step by a conveyor belt; a guillotine-type blade is reciprocated up-and-down over the band supported by the conveyor belt and effects a slit in the band when the conveyor is stopped; the depth of the slits can be adjusted; the inclination of the slits with respect to the longitudinal axis of the band can be varied; the distance between the slits can be adjusted by varying the stroke of the belt advancing mechanism; the conveyor belt has an outer anti-skid surface and the tire rethread band is applied against the same by spring-biased pressure rollers which accommodate tire rethread bands of various thicknesses.

  • Patent number: 4606251
Abstract: A sawdust shear apparatus to enable cleaning of the band saw of a band mill. The apparatus has a shear to contact the band saw and a housing to carry the shear. A recess is formed within the housing. The apparatus has a base and a piston extends from the base and is received within the recess with a fluid tight, slidable fit. Fluid can be supplied under pressure to the recess to move the shear outwardly from the base to clean the band saw. A spring or the like urges the shear towards the base. The apparatus is effective in cleaning a band saw with very little maintenance or inspection.

  • Patent number: 4604931
Abstract: A quick change punch reel for a rotary press comprises a transversely split annular main body member having radially extending cylindrical sockets for receiving individual punches, each punch having a head and a base and an outer cylindrical sidewall with a circumferential undercut including a tapered wall extending toward the base of the punch. The sockets are adjacent a planar side face of the main body member and cylindrical bores are formed through the side face in alignment with and intersecting the sockets with the bores having counterbores at the side face. Punch retaining plungers are spring-biased into the bores and counterbores by means of a transversely split cap plate which is secured to the side face of the main body member. Cylindrical punches may be exchanged in the sockets by retracting the plungers against the compressive force of individual springs such that the punches are received within the sockets and retained by spherical heads of the plungers within the undercuts of the punches.

  • Patent number: 4602541
Abstract: A punch press which has an X-Y guidance system for moving the workpiece relative to the workstation also includes means for rotating the workpiece on the worktable upon release of the workpiece from the X-Y guidance system. In this fashion, the workpiece may be rotated into a reoriented position and then reclamped in that position within the X-Y guidance system. This press includes a tool mounting means on the head of the press and means for effecting reciprocal motion of the tool mounting means along a vertical axis and rotation of the tool mounting means about that axis. Generally, the press will also include a die assembly in the base which includes at least a portion which is rotatable about the same vertical axis so that the workpiece when gripped therebetween may be freely rotated in a fixed clamped position to effect the desired reorientation.

  • Patent number: 4601226
Abstract: A slide table comprising a table top slidably mounted on a pair of guide rails and having a plurality of recesses in the top surface of the table top to receive dowel pins that serve as a fence. Clamps for holding work pieces may be screwed into tee-nuts that are fixed in the table top. Slide collars are provided on the bottom of the table top, which collars partially encircle the guide rails and allows for lengthwise sliding movement of the table top on the guide rails while severely restricting vertical and lateral movement of the table top relative to the guide rails. The guide rails are attachable to the base of a radial arm power saw, and the ends of the guide rails are supported on adjustable height legs. Work pieces are positioned against the fence pins and tightly clamped to the table top. An operator feeds work to a saw by pushing or pulling on handles that are attached to the table top.
