    Abstract: A method and apparatus for blow molding articles with deeply recessed edges utilizing mold halves each of which consists of a center section and end sections that are relatively movable in a direction lengthwise of the mold to enable both lengthening and shortening of the mold. Rack and pinion assemblies are associated with the mold sections so that in response to movement of one end section toward or away from the center section, the other end section is similarly moved toward or away from the center section to thereby enable selective lengthwise lengthening or shortening of the mold halves. This enables the mold halves to be shortened after they are closed on a parison to thereby compress the shape of the parison within the mold to thereby move portions of the parison closer to the edges of the mold cavity. This facilitates a uniform distribution of plastic material along the surface of the mold cavity when the parison is blown into conformity with the mold cavity.

The temperature conditioning may be achieved by allowing stabilization of the temperature gradient through the material of the preform with or without the assistance of a supply of gas to the preform at a desired temperature.

The method is characterized in that a thermoplastic resin or a composition of a thermoplastic resin and a filler is fed in powder or preformed sheet form between a pair of tensioned endless belts disposed parallel and travelling together around a set of rolls, the endless belts being heated by being brought into surface-to-surface contact with heating rolls while travelling along a path having at least one bend formed by the heating rolls, and the material is heated and compressed between the endless belts and melted into an integral body at or above the melting point or softening point of the thermoplastic resin.

The fuel lines are prepared by extruding a hot melt of the polyamide, sizing through a die having a diameter in excess of the given diameter of the fuel line, cooling the fuel line in a cooling bath, removing the fuel line from the bath and sizing the fuel line adiabatically through a disk having a diameter less than the given diameter.

    Abstract: This relates to laminated preforms, the method of forming such preforms and products which may be beneficially formed utilizing such preforms. Most particularly, this relates to a preform which has formed as part of the injection molding thereof two layers of barrier material which are disposed within two layers of thermoplastic resin and having received therebetween a solid core of thermoplastic resin. The specific method of forming the preform permits the barrier material layers to be of a greatly reduced thickness as compared to such layer thicknesses permissible in the past, with the result that the barrier material layers in the blow molded articles are of a thickness recognized to be acceptable for the barrier function. The barrier material layers may be selectively terminated along the length of the preform so as to permit portions of the resultant blow molded article to be removed and reused. The release composition is an aqueous anti-freeze solution containing no petroleum based products. It comprises a combination of at least one active release constituent which may be an organic acid salt, at least one clarifying anti-freeze agent which may be a hydroxyethylether; at least one spreading agent which is an ester; at least one polyether lubricating agent; and water as a solvent medium, in variable proportion according to the desired concentration.

    Abstract: To produce a panel of variable thickness, a stratified assembly of a layer of fibers containing a non-polymerized binder and at least one cover sheet is placed between the mold and mold-backing of a molding press. The stratified assembly is caused to conform to the interior surface of the mold or mold-backing by forcing the cover sheet against the mold or mold-backing interior. Hot air is blown into the fiber layer from the mold surface opposite the cover sheet, into at least the region that will correspond to the area of greater thickness. The direction of the heated air is reversed after a period of time, the blowing of the air being maintained and adjusted in order to secure polymerization of the binder. At the same time, the portions of the panel corresponding to areas of lesser thickness, generally the edges of an acoustical panel, are cured (the binder polymerized) by contact heating means.

Each forming structure is open from the holes in the forming surface to its opposed surface. The web of film has an indefinite length, a first surface, a second surface and a thickness. The thickness comprises the distance between the first surface and the second surface. The process comprises at least two sequential forming phases, one of which involves three-dimensional conformance of the web to the macroscopic profile of the forming structure and another of which involves aperturing of the web to coincide with fine-scale apertures in either the same or a separate forming structure.

    Abstract: Improvements in manufacturing composite material articles. The use of male molds in forming such articles has the problem of requiring large tolerances for the outer dimensions of the articles. The use of female molds has the problem of inaccurate forming of highly contoured inner surfaces. The invention produces an accurately formed inner surface by molding material against a male mold, and outer dimensions within close tolerances by curing the material in a female mold. A male caul (34) is positioned on a male mold (30). A preplied stack (32) of composite material is supported on a blanket (36) and held in position against caul (34) with caul (34) and mold (30) in an inverted position. Stack (32) is heated. A vacuum causes blanket (36) to mold stack (32) against caul (34). Mold (30) is rotated 180.degree., and stack (32) is allowed to cool. A female mold surface (43) is placed into contact with formed stack (32). Male mold (30) is moved away, leaving caul (34 ) and formed stack (32) in female mold (42).

    Abstract: A new method of construction for concrete wall structures. Precast concrete studs with fasteners protruding from one edge are used to build the framework of the walls while oriented in a horizontal plane, rigid sheet insulation is attached to the outside of the concrete studs, and wire mesh is laid upon the sheet insulation. Concrete is then poured onto the insulation, the wire and the protuding fasteners to form a continuous waterproof outer surface. New top and bottom beams which are bonded to the concrete studs are formed at the same time as the outer concrete surface. After setting of the concrete, the wall is one integral concrete structure which may be transported to a construction site for erection.
