  • Patent number: 9974990
Abstract: A fire extinguishing agent delivery apparatus, system, and method of use having an outer tube with an inlet attached to a pressurized water source and an outlet attached to a firefighting hose. The apparatus includes an inner venturi tube mounted within the outer tube, having a funnel-shaped inlet and outlet, a reduced diameter intermediate portion, and an extinguishing agent inlet port. The apparatus includes a device for injecting extinguishing agent into the inlet port and the venturi tube has a smaller diameter than the outer tube, so a portion of water travels through the venturi tube and mixes with extinguishing agent and a greater portion of water travels unobstructed through the outer tube and mixes with the mixture of water and fire extinguishing agent discharged from the venturi tube, prior to discharge from the outer tube.

  • Patent number: 9931648
Abstract: Apparati for generating a mist are disclosed. One apparatus is disclosed, which has an elongate hollow body (12) and an elongate member (14) located within the body (12). A transport fluid passage (16) and a nozzle (32) are defined between the body (12) and the elongate member (14). The transport fluid passage (16) has a throat portion of reduced cross-sectional area and is in fluid communication with the nozzle (32). The elongate member (14) includes a working fluid passage (26) and one or more communicating openings, such as for example, bores, annuli, and combinations thereof, (30) extending radially outward from the working fluid passage (26). The openings (30) permit a working fluid (e.g. water) to be passed into the transport fluid passage (16), whereupon the working fluid is subjected to shear forces by a high velocity transport fluid (e.g. steam). The shearing of the working fluid results in the generation of a mist formed from droplets of substantially uniform size.

  • Patent number: 9889326
Abstract: Noise and room air overpressure on discharge of a gas extinguisher system is reduced. During the discharge, an extinguishing fluid is conveyed from a pressurized container via a container valve and line system to an extinguishing nozzle. At the beginning of the discharge the extinguishing fluid is predominantly present in the line system in liquid phase and after discharge it assumes a predominantly gaseous phase. In a phase transition period, which is accompanied by a significant reduction in the extinguishing fluid mass flow and a significant increase in the noise and the room air pressure, the mass flow is then reduced or stopped. Due to the reduction of the mass flow, the sound level of the noise arising is advantageously reduced to a value of a maximum of 100 dB and the room air pressure to an overpressure value ranging from 200 to 1000 Pa.

  • Patent number: 9868005
Abstract: A fire protection sprinkler is provided with a skipping shield having air flow passages therethrough to reduce the negative impact that the shield has on the thermal response of the sprinkler. By providing holes, slots, louvers, or mesh to the skipping shield, water from adjacent flowing sprinklers can still be blocked from impinging on the thermal element. The shield will block water but allow hot gas from the fire to flow through the shield thereby improving the response time of the thermal element.
