  • Patent number: 9742702
Abstract: A method in a network element includes processing input packets using a set of two or more functions that are defined over parameters of the input packets. Each function in the set produces respective interim actions applied to the input packets and the entire set produces respective end-to-end actions applied to the input packets. An end-to-end mapping, which maps the parameters of at least some of the input packets directly to the corresponding end-to-end actions, is cached in the network element. The end-to-end mapping is queried with the parameters of a new input packet. Upon finding the parameters of the new input packet in the end-to-end mapping, an end-to-end action mapped to the found parameters is applied to the new input packet, without processing the new input packet using the set of functions.

  • Patent number: 9716561
Abstract: A communication device has a transmission/reception unit and a communication processing unit. The transmission/reception unit is configured to conform to a plurality of communication methods. The communication processing unit selects one of the plurality of communication methods with respect to each time slot based on device time in accordance with a predetermined selection rule, to perform communication via the transmission/reception unit by the selected communication method. In time synchronization master processing, a first communication device gives device time of the device itself as a time stamp to a time synchronization request signal and transmits the time synchronization request signal. In time synchronization slave processing, a second communication device receives the time synchronization request signal and calibrates the device time of the device itself based on the time stamp in the time synchronization request signal.

  • Patent number: 9699033
Abstract: A system for negotiating Ethernet link settings between interconnected nodes in a network having an Ethernet protocol stack that includes a PCS sub-layer with an auto-negotiation function. The system comprises connecting an intermediate device coupled between two network nodes via optical or copper interfaces, with the link settings between each node and the connected intermediate device being the same, thereby bypassing the auto-negotiation of the PCS sub-layer in the intermediate device. The intermediate device may transparently send negotiation messages from each node to the other during the link negotiation phase without interacting with those messages. Instead of the intermediate device, a single form pluggable (SFP) device may be connected between the two network nodes via optical or copper interfaces on the network side and via an SFP slot on the device side.

  • Patent number: 9699118
Abstract: A network switch including a set of communication ports is provided. The communication ports may have an allocated prebuffer to store data during packet switching operations. The network switch may further include a calendar associated with the set of communication ports that provides bandwidth configuration for the set of communication ports. The network switch may further include a secondary calendar that may be dynamically setup. The secondary calendar may provide an alternative bandwidth configuration strategy for the set of communication ports. The switch includes circuitry that may increase the prebuffer size and upon the successful increase of the prebuffer size reconfigure the set of communication ports from the original calendar to the secondary calendar, without a reboot. The circuitry may reset the prebuffer size after reconfiguration is complete and the switch may continue operation according to the reconfigured settings.

  • Patent number: 9686803
Abstract: A wireless digital communication system includes a base station in communication with a plurality of user equipment mobile terminals (UEs). The system prioritizes the forwarding of blocks of downlink data to designated ones of the UEs. The system employs adaptive modulation and coding (AM&C) to achieve improved radio resource utilization and provides optimum data rates for user services. Blocks of downlink (DL) data are received by the base station which requests downlink (DL) channel quality measurements only from those mobile terminals (UEs) with pending downlink transmissions. The UEs respond to the request by measuring and reporting DL channel quality to the base station, which then allocates resources such that the UEs will make best use of radio resources. The base station notifies the UEs of the physical channel allocation indicating the modulation/coding rate and allocated slots followed by transmission of blocks of downlink data which are transmitted to the UEs.

  • Patent number: 9667570
Abstract: A method of forwarding traffic through a network node including an ingress IO card, an egress IO card, and a pair of parallel switch fabric cards. One of the switch fabric cards is designated as a working switch fabric card, and the other one of the switch fabric cards is designated as a protection switch fabric card. In the ingress IO card, the traffic flow is divided into a committed information rate (CIR) component and an extra information rate (EIR) signal. Under a normal operating condition of the node, the ingress IO card forwards the CIR traffic component through the working switch fabric card, and forwards the EIR traffic component through the protection switch fabric card. Upon detection of a failure impacting the working switch fabric card, the ingress IO card drops the EIR traffic component and forwards the CIR traffic component through the protection switch fabric card.

  • Patent number: 9642021
Abstract: A user equipment (UE) performs measurements on a serving cell and at least one neighbor cell in a heterogeneous wireless communications network that includes one or more higher power radio network nodes operating near one or more lower power radio network nodes. The UE acquires enhanced neighbor cell information (eNCI) including at least subframe information and determines an allowed set of one or more subframes during which the UE may make downlink and/or uplink measurements for at least one cell in the heterogeneous network. A network node in the heterogeneous network generates the eNCI, from which the UE may determine the allowed set of radio transmission subframes, and provides the eNCI for the UE to coordinate the UE measurements on the at least one cell during one or more of the allowed subframes.

  • Patent number: 9609602
Abstract: When a UE in an LTE system enters the RRC_IDLE state, only the S5/S8 EPS bearer context is retained, and the S1-U, S1-AP and radio bearers are released. These bearers have to be re-established on per UE basis when the UE returns to RRC_CONNECTED state. A number of UE applications may send small data frequently, which causes the UE to toggle between IDLE and CONNECTED states. This leads to a great deal of signaling overhead as the radio bearer and the S1-U bearer must be frequently re-established as the UE transitions between IDLE to CONNECTED states. Described herein are methods and systems that provide an always-on S1-U bearer to reduce this signaling overhead.

  • Patent number: 9596633
Abstract: Adaptive neighboring cell measurement scaling by a wireless user equipment (UE) device. The UE may operate alternately in active and inactive states in a periodic manner according to DRX cycle timing for each of a plurality of DRX cycles. Paging messages may be checked for while in the active state during each DRX cycle. If a paging message is received, it may be decoded using a joint detection technique. The UE may adaptively determine whether or not to perform neighboring cell measurements during at least a subset of the DRX cycles, and perform neighboring cell measurements according to the adaptive determination. The adaptive determination may be based on one or more of joint detection of paging messages, one or more previous cell measurements, or an amount of motion of the UE.

  • Patent number: 9565307
Abstract: In accordance with one aspect of the invention, a process for handling emergency calls from a caller in a voice over IP system is described. The process involves receiving a routing request message including a caller identifier and a callee identifier. The process also involves setting an emergency call flag active in response to the callee identifier matching an emergency call identifier pre-associated with the caller. The process further involves producing an emergency response center identifier in response to the emergency call identifier. The process also involves determining whether the caller identifier is associated with a pre-associated direct inward dialing (DID) identifier. The process further involves producing a direct inward dialing (DID) identifier for the caller by associating a temporary DID identifier with the caller identifier when the emergency call flag is active and it is determined that the caller has no pre-associated DID.

  • Patent number: 9559863
Abstract: Techniques are identified for optimizing the MAC flush in Ethernet rings for faster traffic restoration. In one embodiment, flushing of MAC addresses is performed only once on receiving a first control message. For example, when a first control message is received, a network device may switch from a first state to a second state, which may indicate that the MAC addresses are not to be flushed if additional control messages are received. In another embodiment, flushing of MAC addresses is performed on one ring port rather than on both ring ports. For example, a flag field of a control message header may be used to determine on which port to flush. In another embodiment, flushing of MAC addresses is performed on only one ring port of an interconnection node. For example, the ring port can be determined using a flag field and possibly labels associated with the ring ports.
